DCS Interface for Streamdeck borked?

Been using DCS Interface on a Streamdeck XL as a UFC in the Hornet for a while now.

Yesterday out of nowhere, when I fire it up, the buttons I have mapped as the Option Select Pushbuttons, instead of displaying what options you can choose, they just have “0” there, all the time.

Anyone else have this happen? Or know what route to take to fix it?

Supercarrier Deck Statics + AI

Hey all, this is my first post here as I’m fairly new to DCS. I’ve been using the F18 and the Supercarrier for about a month now and I’ve become fairly competent in doing carrier ops. I fly solely single player missions and try to incorporate AI and static objects as much as I can to increase immersion.

This brings us to my main issue at hand. I’ve been using briefing room to generate my missions, and I’ve been trying to use the “spawn carrier-suitable statics” option. The issue is, this has a 50% chance of completely screwing over the taxi behaviors (crash into statics or don’t taxi at all) of my AI wingmen and other AI flights.

So far, I’ve taken a look at Adalla’s dynamic deck’s YT videos and I am completely lost on how to incorporate scripts, triggers, and other behaviors to make this work. I’ve tried manually placing statics for each mission but I’ve found that to be largely time consuming for me when I usually only have time for one mission. And manually placing statics doesn’t fix the AI taxi issues anyway.

So, I’m here to ask if anyone has tips or solutions for this that you’re willing to share.

DCS VR with quest 3 only using ~25% of gpu and cpu causing bad performance

I fired up dcs today to find bad performance when I was running at 72 fps just a few days ago. Only change I made is updating NVIDIA drivers. I noticed my gpu and cpu utilization is hovering around 25%. And ideas as to why this is so low?

Specs are a quest 3, 3080, ryzen 7 5800x, 64gb 3600mhz ram, m.2’s. Was hopping to fly all night but this has me stumped.

Torn on my Next plane

I feel like I’m at a good spot with the f18 and can cold start, land on the carrier without bolting 90% of the time and employ its available weapons without having to look anything up so I want to learn another aircraft I already own the a10 and f16 and what I’m torn on is I think the f-16 is cool and I love how it looks, but it would basically be the same missions and I’d basically fly it the same way as the hornet. On the other hand the A-10 has a specific mission that offers something a little different. Anyone else come from a kinda similar spot and how did you choose and how do you feel after the choice?

F-16 radar not picking up jack (am going nuts)

Im quite new to DCS:

I set up a simple mission in the mission builder, with me starting from a ramp, and one SU-17M4 over the water for me to practice on. Ive RTFM multiple times, watched Bogey Dope’s videos on radar and dogfighting. And mapped all the hotas controls to my hotas.

I am trying to get a lock on a SU-17M4. Keep in mind, we were over open water and skies were clear. However no matter how close i got to the SU, i got absolutely nothing on the radar.

I tried everything, even using the F10 map to pinpoint the exact location and distance, then setting the ant elev to said elevation. Nothing. Not even a blip.

Even when i could visually see the target from 10nm out: and trying to get the radar to spot, nothing. Switched to IR, got immediate lock, switched to dogfight vertical radar, instant lock. But back to nav and trying to get the radar to spot it. Never. Please help me here i am going nuts.

Edit: Problem solved, issue was most likely a random mission bug causing the enemy aircraft to not load properly and therefore invisible to radar scans. Restarting the mission again with different enemy seemed to solve the issue.

Nevada + F-15C ACM Campaigns Worth It?

I’ve got about $100-150 set aside to buy some modules. I enjoy refining my skills, and wondered—is Nevada is worth picking up for the ability to do BFM and ACM training for pretty much every aircraft?

Would also snag at least one other map for MP, maybe two.

Currently fly the F-15C as my main while I build SA and confidence with managing weapons systems. Also own the A-10C.

Budget would otherwise go towards the F/A-18 as my first FF module and either Syria or Persian Gulf and possibly Kola.

DCS vr stops loading after selecting a mission

I have a WMR headset and I'm trying to run DCS standalone with SteamVR because I want to use the Desktop+ overlay from Steam in my cockpit. I managed to get DCS working with SteamVR, but as soon as I try to start a mission, the game screen turns black. On my desktop screen, it says, 'Something went wrong (-203).'
I run the A-10C II if its important does anybody have an idea what i can do?

Retribution now has support for Currenthill Asset Packs

This has been a rather common request for a while now, so I'm pleased to announce that the Retribution Dynamic Campaign Generator now has support for Currenthill's asset packs. Specifically, the USA, Sweden, China, and Russia asset packs are all supported, with support for the Ukraine asset pack next on the list.

If you do want to try it out, our latest alpha build is #1697. Please do not use the release build, as it is almost a year old at this point. While we will have a new release build at some point in the future, the very rapid pace of development (we typically have at least one new alpha build per week, oftentimes more) means that any release build is outdated within days. Pretty much all of our current users are on the latest alpha or beta build.

For those who might not be familiar with Retribution, let me provide an intro and summary of features.

Introduction

Retribution is a dynamic campaign generator for DCS that provides a turn-based persistent combat environment where the outcomes of each mission influence the following turns. This creates an evolving campaign that reacts to your actions. Aircraft that are lost have to be replaced, front lines shift as ground units battle it out, and air defences can be degraded or destroyed. Your own resource sites have to be protected while you attack the enemy's. However, think carefully before you blow something up, because as you capture territory, you might miss having that oil refinery that you turned to rubble on Turn 3.

Control points (airfields, FOBs, FARPs) can be captured, squadrons reassigned to new home bases, and SAM sites repaired. You can choose to cripple your enemy by bombing their runways, or destroying their factories and ammo depots. Or perhaps you wish to cut off their resources by bombing their offshore oil rigs, bridges, or train stations. Intercept and destroy ground convoys, cargo ships, or air transports. Send in choppers to capture enemy airfields. Plan long range strikes to destroy their reserve forces on the ground. You can do all these and more.

Retribution was originally started in 2022 by a group of Liberation developers and content creators who wanted to place a stronger focus on campaign customisation, mod support, and an expanded mission set. Retribution was built upon the Liberation code base, but has evolved significantly since then. We owe a great deal to former Liberation developers like ColonelPanic, Khopa, and ShdwPrince (who have all since moved on to other projects) who laid the original foundation. I should note that Retribution is not a replacement for Liberation, nor is Liberation dead. The Liberation code base is still being maintained by X-ray, who very generously offered to take over this task when the rest of us moved on (some to Retribution, some to other things). The Retribution dev team and X-ray still collaborate when we find major bugs that affect both.

Retribution currently has over a dozen content creators with our head honchos Stoner and Ghosti at the helm, as well as a 40-man testing team that helps us test new features and squash bugs. Development is very active, with typically at least one new build per week. Just in the past week alone, we have implemented support for Currenthill's USA Asset Pack, improved 3 existing campaigns, and added a new faction. We currently have over 120 factions available, covering everything from WW2 to the modern day.

If this interests you, check out our Github site here. If you wish to use Retribution, please read the Getting Started Guide on the wiki here, which will walk you through the process. We also have an active Discord community, so feel free to pop in to say hi! Questions and comments are always welcome.

Features

  1. Retribution is usable in singleplayer and multiplayer, supporting both PvE and PvP.

  2. We have 64 campaigns available right now, with more in development. These come in a variety of sizes and intensities, covering a broad range of eras.

  3. All official aircraft and terrain modules are supported.

  4. We support 40 different mods at the moment (including most of the popular ones like Currenthill Asset Packs, A-4E Skyhawk, Superhornet, Grinnelli's F-22A, Codename Flanker Su-30, IDF Mods, Vietnam War Vessels, OH-6, OV-10A Bronco, C-130J, UH-60L, Frenchpack, High Digit SAMs, Bandit's Weather Mod, etc).

  5. We also support a number of plugins, including CTLD, Mbot Artillery, Splash Damage, Skynet IADS, EWRS, etc.

  6. A large number of different mission types are available. Some of the mission types you can fly are BARCAP, Escort, SEAD Sweep, Armed Recon, Air Assault, Anti-Runway, DEAD, Close Air Support, Anti-ship, and Strike.

  7. You can set up squadrons with different mission types (these come by default with the campaigns but you can change them as you wish). Each squadron has pilots that can be replaced and can level up in skill as they survive across missions. We have about 350 preset squadrons (with appropriate liveries or livery sets) available right now.

  8. Mission planning can be fully automated where you simply fly your assigned missions, or can be planned manually (for either or both sides).

  9. Mission planning is performed directly in the Retribution UI where you can create missions and set targets, click and drag waypoints, easily change loadouts, set TOT offsets, etc. You have a great deal of control over how much is automated and how much you can fine-tune manually.

  10. We offer support for multiplayer squadrons who wish to use their own livery sets, radio frequency settings, and pilot names.

  11. Retribution can be used to generate Pretense campaigns using standard Retribution campaigns as a template. This dramatically increases the number of Pretense scenarios available to Pretense users.

  12. You can create new campaigns (and submit them for inclusion in Retribution). We have a comprehensive guide on our wiki that will walk you through the entire process. No coding expertise is needed. All you need is the DCS mission editor and a text editor.

  13. Our saves are forward compatible. This means that if you are in the middle of a campaign and update to a new version of Retribution, this is no problem. Your save file will load normally and you can keep playing.

Controversial opinion: ED should make DCS a subscription based sim

As the title suggests, I think ED (and thus the player base) will benefit immensely if they took the same approach as say iRacing.

You would still have to pay for modules and maps etc, accompanied by a $10 or so each month.

Now why I think this would be the best strategy for ED? DCS is an extremely niche product, where each FF module takes an immense amount of time and work to create. It’s getting released in Early Access, they get their money, on release and there is practically no incentive for them (from a business/money perspective) to continue updating the modules as frequently as we all would like (looking at you Sniper pod for the F16).

And I can understand that it’s very easy to get into money issues as before mentioned; it takes so much work just for one module. Why do you think suddenly Afghanistan, Iraq, Chinook, etc in such a short time frame are getting released. Of course I don’t know their financial situation but it seems like they don’t have the funds to get models out of EA (and why would they? People buy it anyways and ED receives a one time paycheck; so on to the next “EA” module).

I believe that’s the reason we still don’t have 20% of all the things promised to the player base for many years. They have to keep pumping out new, hurried unfinished modules to make an income. At least, that’s what jt looks like to me. This makes is to they can’t focus on the core game which is why we still don’t have many of the core features that they promised.

I personally think it would be way better for the entire DCS community if ED approached it the same as iRacing. They get a monthly revenue no matter what. They don’t need to rush out modules or terrains for a quick cash grab. And instead they can use that money to focus on the core game AND because they receive money on a regular basis they can probably assign more teams to finish all that has to be finished.

I suppose I’m getting a lot of backlash on this one but think about it. Most of us probably have spend at the bare minimum hundreds of dollars on peripherals, if not way into the thousands. Easily another few hundred on modules and terrains and go on. Assuming that my theory would work (which is another question of course), what is 10 bucks a month to play a game we all, or at least most of us enjoy so much, knowing that it would greatly improve the core game, the rate at which modules get released, and such.

I personally wouldn’t even think that their current business model would keep them alive. It isn’t War Thunder with millions of players. It’s a very niche product which requires an immense amount of money and effort to develop and maintain (unless they earn a big chuck from MCS, idk).

By no means is this post meant to criticize ED, since I can kind of understand the financial hardships that come with a product like DCS World. These are assumptions of course.

This has been on my mind for quite a while and I was wondering how others would feel about it. If it of course meant that the extra money is spent well and not for some Director’s holiday.

Would you spend an additional $10 a month (modules and such are still to be paid separately) to be able to play DCS where all the promised features are delivered within the given timeframe. No more frustration. No months lasting bugs. No forever unfinished modules.

Cheers guys and happy flying

TrackIR stuttering with 165 HZ Freesync monitor

I am getting stutters while looking around with trackIR. Looking over old posts this appears to be about the monitor refresh rate and in game fps not working well with trackIR.

I am running a 4080s. Panning is nice and smooth with trackir turned off.

Thanks for any help

My better shadows mod is not working 100% any more. FYI

Update: As of DCS 2.9.12.5336 - 20.01.2025 mod is not working 100% any more. The main goal of eliminating distant flat shadows and removing far cascades are not working any more. I can only bump the bitmap resolution of shadow maps which improves quality but at a cost of performance hit. You will also still see the changing shadows when the cascade limits pass over them.

ED apparently hardcoded that part somewhere else I guess. Let's see if I can find a solution. But I'm not that hopeful since I'm no programmer. I hope this is an internal bug and it will start working again.
