Anyone have any ideas as to what’s going on with the opening of Urban Market on Washington and 14? They stocked the shelves nearly 2 months ago and it’s still not opened .
Hi everyone - let me know your transit / commuting experiences during the PATH Closure and any suggestions / observations you may have. I will give feedback to the project team at PANYNJ. I am maintaining a summary webpage that you may find helpful: PATH STATION CLOSURE - Tiffanie for Hoboken
Has anyone been to Massage Wonder on Washington downtown between first and second yet? It opened recently and the prices are great, so I’m wondering if anyone has any reviews!
A big takeaway from Day 1 of the PATH closure is that people are still struggling to find the $3 ferry ticket on the NYWW app. The elusive $3 ticket - its there, I promise. For those still struggling, “How to” instructions are in my newsletter from last night. Click to learn how to find it, hear about some observations of the 1st Path Closure commute and more: 6-#MOREVOICES Newsletter Critical Hint, Observations & Feedback Request - Tiffanie for Hoboken

Hoboken - As the first two weeks of Donald Trump's presidency comes to a close, the need for protest has become clear.
I am new to exercising my right to assemble, so I am at a loss for where to begin. What I am not new to is media and organizing. For that reason, I am posting here. If any of you here have experience in exercising your first ammendment right to assemble, and have plans, tips or resources to share, please do so.
There will come a time when we must act, let this post serve as a beginging, and a call to arms.
Edit: I’ve started a Discord server for those interested in starting to organize. Invite link here
Any buildings u recommend in JC/ Hoboken? Or ones to run for ur life from?
Anyone have a massage place they like?
All good things must come to an end, and these are the last two paintings I have up for sale at Heritage. I am ending this round with two of my best paintings, from the “Heroes in Hell” series, “War In Hell” and “Explorers in Hell.”
I was deep into Bruegel and Bosch while working on “War in Hell”. “War” is the painting with the most direct “quotations” from both of those artist’s work. The man about to be beheaded on the steps and the guy in red with a sword is a quotation from Bruegel’s “The Triumph of Death,” and the creature climbing on the riggings is a quote from Bruegle’s “Mad Meg.” While I was working on the painting my mother, Phyllis Mattingly, paid one of her periodic visits to my wife Cathleen and me in Hoboken. I showed her my books on Bosch and Bruegel, two artists I revere, and she immediately hated them—“Too negative” was her comment. Keep in mind this was a lady whose favorite movie was “The Sound of Music”. She always wanted to look on the bright side of things, and negativity was a no-no. I have a somewhat darker personality, and I love artist’s visions of hell, along with songwriters like Randy Newman, who she also hated (again, “too negative”).
One thing that really bothered me about my mother is that she never managed to be able to recognize my style. I can immediately tell who of my contemporaries did a painting by just looking at it—Whelan, Frazetta, Sweet, Shaw, Kidd, Berkey—I recognize them all. I had two paintings by John Berkey up in my studio, and mom walked in, looked at the Berkey’s, and said “I love those two paintings by you!” I guess I should have been complimented that she mixed me up with Berkey, another artist I love, but it really bothered me. Mom was never an “art connoisseur.” Luckily my father, John W. Mattingly, loved art, had exquisite taste, and always encouraged me in my pursuit of being a professional illustrator. On the plus side, mom would come to New York once a year to see the Broadway shows, and she would let me run wild at the Met and Moma while she shopped. It’s hard to believe you could let a 10 year old wander around the museums for hours unattended, but things were different back then.
I was lucky to benefit from an education of being able to view the works of the great masters at an early age. Tiepolo, Memling, Velasquez, Dali, Sargent, Eakins, Bierstadt—they were all my teachers.
A lot of mom’s “Power of Positive Thinking” has rubbed off on me, although not enough so that I love “The Sound of Music”. In spite of my darker side, I do still look for the positive in life, just like she did. That has served me well as I have gotten older. She has been gone for 25 years now, and I miss her. Those of you who still have living parents might want to give them an extra hug—they won’t be there forever.
When looking at “Explorers in Hell,” it is hard to miss the influence of Tiepolo. When you go up the grand staircase at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, you are greeted by several big paintings by Tiepolo, including “The Triumph of Marius” and “The Capture of Carthage,” both of which are wall paintings. Most of Tiepolo’s work was displayed on ceilings, where he was the master of painting sprawling scenes meant to be looked up at. He always had a lot of putti flying around, and I may have stollen some of them for this painting.
I want to tell another one of my favorite stories about my mom. My brother John has farmed ever since he got out of college, and his first place was just down the road from a farm owned by my father. John used to have huge feasts on his farm during the holidays, and my mother was always invited. For some reason mom insisted on getting dressed up whenever she visited my brother, and for this occasion she wore her prized mink coat. Mom was wandering around John’s farm, in high heels no less, when she came to the coral holding goats. I should mention that goats will eat almost anything, including tin cans and cardboard. She was standing next to the coral, admiring the goats in her passive-aggressive way, when she looked down, only to find that a goat had eaten a hole in her mink coat. Needless to say, she was not a happy camper, and developed a life-long hatred of goats.
I had a contentious relationship with my mom, but now that she has been gone for so long, I have had time to think about her. My memory tends to wipe out the bad, and keep only the good (the power of positive thinking again). Now I wish I had just one more day with her, and I would laugh at her foibles and love her for everything that was great about her.
Did anyone just see that bright flash (red/purple) in the sky above jersey city heights? Any idea what it was? And no it wasn’t lightning.
It’s gonna be a long month.
I have a couple bags of women’s clothing id love to donate in the Hoboken/JC areas. Looking for decent organizations that will just give out the clothes not like Goodwill where customers have to purchase. Anyone know of any causes or even a family in need? TIA!
Ive never used the 126 bus. Can somebody explain how to get a ticket?
I opened the NJ transit app, selected the bus. I have no clue what zone I’m in. I would get on at Clinton and 1st I think? Then would take the bus to port authority.
This is the least intuitive ticketing system I’ve ever used haha

Has anybody had any experience yet with the shuttle they’re saying is going to Newport station for free? I haven’t seen anybody mention it yet. I’m hoping that it’s reliable but I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t
Tried the new Indian restaurant on wash between 6th & 7th last night and it was FIREEEE! Karma & Empyrean have hands down been my fav but this one here packed a punch of flavors. Met the owner last night, it’s a brother & sister family owned business, their first location is in JC.
Call it “Phoboken”
😆😏
I tried getting on the path to WTC this morning and the station appears to be closed?!??
How does this highlighted part work? Since PATH started using the TAPP technology last year, I no longer use a MetroCard or SmartLink and instead just tap to pay with a debit card that’s part of my company’s Commuter Benefits package.
Do I need to buy a MetroCard and load $3 on it? Are they checking that you have money on these cards or literally just showing that you physically have one when you board?
I downloaded the RidePATH app but didn’t see anything about a digital pass either.
Trying to buy a ferry ticket to Brookfield on the NYWW app and the cross-honored fare isn’t showing up as an option. Anyone else having this problem?
The Path will be closed in the 10 Minutes
The overall theme is to make Starbucks locations a 'welcome community coffeehouse' again. There's an emphasis on refills and a condiment bar. A purchase needs to be made to sit or use the bathroom now, reversing previous open-door policy. Is Hoboken too far gone?
I am considering a job in Paramus but want to live in a city good for a young couple (27 y/o) and most commonly seeing recommendations for Hoboken. I went recently to check it out and love it. The drive was 33 minutes at 10:30 AM and even putting into the GPS driving at 8 AM it says 33 minutes. But two hotel concierges said it would likely take me between 50 minutes and an hour. How is the commute from Hoboken to Paramus during busy hours?
Hello all, I am planning to move to Hoboken in April/May and am looking at these buildings in particular to rent an apartment/condo. I have searched and read past posts but am looking for more insight into specific differences from people who have lived in 1 or more of these communities. For example, with the commute options. I see that the Shipyard is the only one that has a Shuttle to the PATH Station (once PATHAgedden is over). So for non-Shipyard residents how do you get to the PATH, or do you just take the bus or ferry (and how is that working for you)? Any other specific pros/cons you would like to share between these three, such as noise level, elevators and ease of receiving deliveries would be appreciated. I will need a parking spot, 24-hour concierge/security, and a place to tele-commute would be nice, but beyond that I don't care much about the amenities such as pool and gym (although they are nice to have). Oh and a view of the river/city from the unit is high on the list! Would consider Hoboken Point also. Thanks!!
Here is a simulation where the sea level rise to 3 meters. The 2 red circles are probably the weak points of the city. Do you think if we try to build protections on these points we will be safe?
Hey y'all just seen wing and prayer is sold out. Was really looking forward to going to it but unfortunately was too late getting tickets. If anyone is selling theirs lmk pls 🙏
Anyone have cloudy water? In midtown we have really cloudy water for two days. If you let it sit it clears up. Called violia and they said the temperature change is causing water to hold less oxygen/air and making it cloudy. This sounded suspicious but google searches seem to induce this is a thing. If you let it sit it clears up with no sediment so maybe they are telling the truth? Anyone see anything similar?
What is a weird fact about Hoboken you would only know if you were a local?
I was thinking this morning how there is a pack of skunks that live in or around Hoboken and the air smells like a skunk I swear once a week during the warmer months.
