Edit: We've changed the SSL certificates on our servers. The new ones are compatible with all Android devices we've tested.
------ Outdated Information ------
It turns out the server connection issues were caused by an update of the SSL certificate on the Heavens-Above server. It's backed by a root certificate that is not recognized by some older Android devices. Chris will replace the current certificate with a compatible one.
In the meantime, you can fix the issue by manually adding the relevant root certificate on your Android device:
Open Settings
Click Security. If you can't find security, search for "Encryption and Credentials"
Click Encryption and Credentials.
Click "Install a certificate"
Click "CA certificate"
Click "Install anyway"
Select "root-r6.crt"
Here are the detailed instructions.
A massive thank you goes out to Kelly G. who figured out the issue.

Haven't used HA for several years. Are Iridium flares no longer predicted on website? Or the app? I just downloaded it. Sorry if this q pops up all the time.
hello a big thank you to the work done on your site it allows us to see and photograph the iss would it be possible to display the images made by amateur astronomers on your site, I attach the link to a montage of my photos of the iss https ://youtu.be/XP63MAsxurE
When viewing the nightly list with phone in portrait (normal) orientation, the elevation is visible but magnitude isn't. Two suggestions:
Does anyone know what flew overhead near Seattle on March 6, 2022 at around 5:30 AM? We witnessed a series of objects glowing bright white travel across the sky like they were in a train formation. They maintained the same speed and distance from one another the entire time. In our view for about 1 minute. Somewhere around 50 objects in all.

I have radio satillites selected for pass notifications but I MIGHT get a notification and I might not.. MOSTLY I don't get them. Why? and how to fix the issue. Thanks.. Steve
Will this satellite be added to the list? 73, Jim. KN6LPQ
Hallo zusammen !!!
Spiegelung ?
Vielleicht weiss jemand bescheid

Where does H-A get the preliminary TLEs for a future Starlink Placeholder?
Where does H-A get the TLEs for the Starlink satellites once they have been in orbit for a few hours?

We've released version 1.72 to the beta channel.
The Pro version now displays radio frequencies as shifted by the doppler effect during a pass.
Both versions now display a dialog disclosing the use of location data.
If you're using the app in a language other than English or German, please let me know if the translations for the new dialog are correct.
It's not clear how HA deals with refraction. Could this be added as a FAQ?
thx!

When using the interactive sky chart on the website to determine the elevation of stars low in the sky, does H-A account for refraction or not? Anyone know? Thanks!

Large fireball observed heading west approx. 20:20 MDT 10/27 south of Cloudcroft, NM, USA.
I downloaded the app on another device and the sky chart is orientated correctly but the cursor moves in opposite direction. Is there a setting on the phone (a Samsung A12) or in the app? Anyone else having this issue?
I was walking the dog early this morning and by accident caught the ISS flying over. As I watched there was another object following about a second or two behind it. Exact same course, exact same speed.
I did some googling and it looks like the object was a Russian cargo ship. Anyway, if you're anywhere you can see the ISS in the next day or so you might want to take a look.
Hi all, I am a poster over at the Metabunk forums. We are currently looking a the following video recorded at around on 7th Oct 2021 -18:54 UTC from near Utrecht, Netherlands
The objects appear a triangle of close together dim magnitude lights (seen with night vison binoculars.)
We have if the bright star in the start of the video as Markab, the video and some analysis is in the linked threads

Using Stellarium we are unable to find a satellite that matches, a commercial plane is also seemingly ruled out as well.
Are there any other databases we should be aware of, or new/unlisted satellites this could be?
Thanks

I don't know why my Heavens Above app points always to the wrong sun direction, it must be a difference of 10 degrees. And I say that because today I pointed my Pocophone X3 Pro exactly to the sun but in the app still didn't point for the right direction, what could I do?
I've been comparing Heavens Above Pro on my phone and Samsung tablet... And I've found a few oddities I thought you may be interested in.
Selecting 'Help' from the three dot menu on the phone brings up a pop-up allowing me to open the wiki in either my Reddit reader (RedditIsFun) or in my browser (Firefox). But on the tablet, 'Help' does nothing. No pop-up appears. Both of the apps mentioned above are installed, but they are not launched. So there is no way to get to the help wiki.
On the tablet, there is a three-dot menu item 'About' to get version number, credits, etc. This seems to be missing on the phone version.
On the live sky chart screen there is now a row of icons at the top to select whether different objects are shown or not (dependent on whether the strange "funnel" (filter?) icon is highlighted or not). Some, such as the ISS, radio satellites and rockets are obvious but the two similar ones for starlink satellites and other satellites could do with explanations somewhere. The wiki hasn't been updated to show these icons, either in the screenshots or in the description.
On the tablet version there is an additional icon (of Saturn) in that row, which I assume should select whether the planets (and moon) are shown on the live sky map. It doesn't seem to do anything - the planets are shown all the time. On the phone version, the icon is not there and moon and planets are also shown all the time.

I have used the paid version for years, no problems until recently.
Now the app only shows ISS passes from 04:00 to 12:00 (noon). I have checked my settings, in which I made no changes since forever. Grateful for any ideas.
