So sometimes I would wake up and my right ear would get clogged and muffled but then it would pop and feel normal. I figured I have excess earwax. So I went to clean it out using q tips and I would move it around it would get muffled again then pop and feel normal well I think I did it too far and too long because now it’s muffled and won’t pop. I’m now sitting with my right ear muffled clogged and it’s worrying me. Idk if I should let it run its course and pop or see the doctor.
I’ve been to clubs before I always come out ears ringing no big deal. But my left ear literally blew out. Like I’m having trouble hearing people now. People are trying to talk to me I cannot hear them. Will this go away? I felt a sharp pain before it went out.
I can hear a faint buzzing sound from on electronics, if they are off it stops, like when I go up to my computer while it’s off I can hear it but if I unplug it, it stops, it’s almost like I can hear the electricity travelling through electronics, I can’t describe it fully but that’s the best I can do and I just have been able to hear it, I don’t why, I just can
For the past 2 years Ive had issues with fullness in my right ear as well as mild tinnitus and vertigo. I finally went to the ENT and he found a bug in my ear! I freaked out. But I assume that was what was causing the fullness and pressure. He told me that the pressure will resolve with some time now that its removed.
Its been 4 weeks now with zero improvement in the fullness of my ears. Has anyone ever gotten an object in your ear? Did it cause fullness/pressure in your ear? How long until it went away?
I am not sure when I should stop waiting and make another appointment. I even ordered an Eustachi to try to pop my ear but all it does is fill my ear with pressure and no relieving pop.
Hi, Sept. 25 I had to get my ear irrigated. It hurt for days and was muffled before. For the weeks after on and off, I had slight pain but read that can be normal during recovery. Last weekend, it got pretty bad one evening, but I was in the middle of a move so couldn’t see a doctor. As soon as I get back to work, it’s okay for the most part. But today, the pain is back. I was listening to music and podcasts with headphones while working today and wonder if that triggered it? Sometimes the pain is achey, occasionally sharp. I am debating if I wait to set up an appointment with the doctor I did it with next week or go to instacare tomorrow.
Feeling a little concerned, over the past few months I’ve noticed a new sensation in both ears. It feels like my hearing is going in and out, almost like pressure going in an out every few seconds(in a rhythm almost), whenever I hear louder noises for a long period of time. This usually happens by the end of my day. It’s not everyday, sometimes it may not even happen for a few weeks! But other times it’s 3-4 days at a time.
Any ideas of what it could be? I’m 30 years old, and am worried my hearing is damaged, or something more internal.
Went to urgent care today for pain in my ear. They said it was due to ear wax. They perform a saline irrigation where I almost passed out. They get my ear unblocked 80% and see a perforation that looks like it’s been there awhile.
I need to see an ENT. I’ve been given ear drops. But what do I take for pain? I can’t take any NSAIDs. Would Tylenol help?
When I hold my nose and DRAW in air with force trough my nose my ears clicks! And when I have done that my hearing is reduced by maybe 20%... and then I can do that once again but a have to try to draw in the air with a little more force... I can do this at maximun 4 times I have reduced my hearing with 50% total.... can anyone else do this? And when I enter a Q tip I AND everybody near me hear a rustling sound deep inside my ears!!!! Kinda sounds like a plastic bag...
And to "reset" my hearing i simply do the same thing but try to push out the air trough my nose as I hold it with my fingers... and even that sound people can hear a rustling sound!!! Or i simply swallow....
I have done this since i was like 10 years old....
What is the problem???😂😂
Looking for people with similar hearing to me. Mine changes every single day. Sometimes the left ear is bad, sometimes the right ear. Sometimes both. Don’t have Ménière’s.

Hi all,
3 weeks ago on Tuesday i had a really bad cold, i was sat in the office kitchen and someone called out my name and at the same time my left ear started crackling randomly before going really muffled with a new tinnitus tone which lasted for maybe 2 hours (i’ve had chronic noise induced tinnitus since 2019). Fast forward to the Tuesday just gone and i have the above audiogram done privately which shows no apparent loss however the muffled sensation remains. I can pop my ears ok so not sure if this is my eustachian tubes. The muffled sensation is most apparent when i am wearing headphones (i always have the volume limiter on) as it seems like sound is slightly centred to the right of my head and in day to day life most sound is picked up by my right ear (I can still hear out of my left ear but it seems quieter than the right). I have an ENT NHS appointment on Tuesday but i am worried about if this is just leftover Eustachian Tube dysfunction or a sinus inflammation or whether it is something like SSHL, especially as this appointment will be exactly 3 weeks after it went muffled. I’ve been to A&E twice as this didn’t feel right (both times before i obtained the above audiogram) and they spoke to the ENT who didn’t seem to think like it was anything serious, i mentioned the fact that it suddenly went muffled to them also.
It also sounds like my voice is slightly off centre.
This audiogram is near identical to my previous one from September 2023 also.
My doctors referred me to an audiometrist and he’s said I might need grommets but I’m not too keen on the idea
So I don’t really know what the surgery is called. But my right ear has been giving me grief since I was a child. 30 now and I am finally having surgery to get it fixed up. My inner ear is collapsed, and from what they can currently see, 2 of bones in my ear are stuffed - not sure on the 3rd, as it can’t be seen under the collapse…. the surgeon isn’t sure yet if the bones can be removed and replaced, or just removed. I think I am getting a stent put in the Eustachian tube as well. Question is, has anyone had the same surgery and can tell me what I might expect afterwards? Especially with recovery. I know the hearing could be worse, I’m not bothered about that though. I’d rather the vertigo and other physical/emotional problems go away. I’ve dealt with issues in this ear for over 15yrs now, the impact, especially in the last 6 years has definitely taken its toll.
I've had tinnitus for years, along with times when my ear pressure feels off and have to pop them It's gotten a little worse over the last couple of months and I thought it was probably impacted ear wax. I finally saw an ENT to get them cleaned out, but instead find that ears are clean and after a hearing test I've got some loss in both ears. The left has been the worse, feeling full and slightly muffled. Dr said it wasn't Eustachian tube dysfunction either, but the feeling of fullness is due to my brain interpreting the loss as physical. Has anyone ever had the same diagnosis?
Since I've not had a hearing test before to compare, she suggested that if it's SSHL that a course of prednisone may help (50-50 chance). But since it's not really a sudden problem, just an issue that's gotten worse recently, it most likely is not SSHL. I was prescribed 60mg for 70 days with a 7 day taper. Reading the side effects of prednisone and me having anxiety and panic disorder already, I'm very hesitant. Any kind of strong stimulant sends my anxiety through the roof. Ear fullness is already freaking me out and I'm scared to even take it at all.
4 hours ago I've landed on tenerife, when we started to land pressure in my ears was so high that It felt like someone was drilling a hole in my ear with a metal whire, now I have super strong pain in my head and ears and hear almost nothing It's like im under water Im also sick and for 2 days before the flight I've had severe nosebleeds one lasted more than hour I'm very scared of long lasting hearing damage and im clueless how to approach this
This may be a stretch but I was at work and my right ear started ringing and now it’s completely muffled and feels clogged. I went down the google rabbit hole and it’s saying it could be a stroke or heart attack. Am I tripping for no reason?
I’ve been to the doctor multiple times, but they didn’t find any inflammation or redness. My ear was extremely itchy and painful. After an earwax removal, the itchiness stopped, but the pain remained. Now, I feel pain whenever I burp or yawn, and it feels like my ear pops each time. It’s really uncomfortable, and lately, I’ve also started hearing noises, mostly at night. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
To give the full back story, I went to urgent care to get a boil popped under my arm on Friday. Went home felt fine, on Saturday I woke up 100 degree fever, crazy headache, ears muffed, lower back pain. Since then the headache, fever went away along with the lower back pain but my ears still feel muffed. The best way to describe it, it feels like I always have headphones in. I made an appointment with the ENT doctor but it’s in January, should I be worried and try to escalate the situation to get an appointment sooner?
Prior to yesterday my hearing was pretty much fine. Sometimes I struggle to understand people in loud environments but I have always assumed that was normal. I have also experienced ringing in the past but once again I am pretty sure there is nothing off about that since it only happened once in a blue moon and would go away in about 30 seconds or so.
Anyway, I woke up yesterday morning with my left ear having this feeling of a slight pressure. I tried popping that ear but it did nothing.
Eventually I noticed that my left ear was also more sensitive then my right ear but still it wasn’t terrible so I thought it would just go away.
Fast forward to this morning and now both my ears seem to be equally sensitive. I can still hear seeming fine but I prefer things to be quieter then I normally would. Sometimes my ears hurt a little bit too.
I should add that I went to a concert a month ago where I mostly didn’t wear hearing protection. It was a stupid idea but oh well. Still after a day my hearing seemed to return back to normal so I’m not really sure what is going on.
As of now I’m just plugging up my ears since I hope by allowing them to rest the problem will get better.
One last thing. I’m preparing to move very soon so I’m wondering if the stress from that might be effecting my hearing.
Car honk, valsava manuever, and diplacusis
Hello! I got honked at by a car a week ago and it was the worst kind of horn modification - the sound was so shrill and sharp to the point that it actually made my left ear ache so much. I wasn't even hurt by loud truck horns back then, but this one was the first one that caused me physical pain.
Throughout the days after that, I would experience what felt like was air pressure/water (but it wasn't wet) inside my left ear, so I would constantly blow my nose (aka valsava manuever) to try and equalize both of my ears. It did not bring me immediate relief so I kept doing it until a while ago. (important)
I just assumed that it would get better as time passes by.
I also kept wearing my IEM earphones after that, but I didn't notice any much of difference until a few days after, when I noticed that my left ear couldn't pick up the bass very much. I also noticed only a while ago that everything in my left ear is lower pitched and has something like a robotic filter over it. I was distressed since listening to music is my main form of entertainment in my life. I quickly googled my situation and what I'm experiencing MAY be diplacusis dysharmonica
I'm planning to have my ear checked by an ENT in the coming days - what can you say about this? Do you think it was caused by the car honk (physical damage?) or can it be an infection from the constant nose blowing that I did? or was it a combination from all 3 factors (car honk, valsava, earphone use) any answer to help reassure me and calm me down before the ENT visit would be appreciated so much.
So a few days ago my ears was too itchy and I made a stupid move to scratch it really hard and iirc it has a bit of blood but I was pretty sure at that time it was just on the outside now few days after I started having pain inside my ear and feels like it's swollen as well and now I'm sure that there's fluid inside cause it's like speaking through a drum or something. I'm planning to go to an ent tomorrow but I'm just so worried that I've ruptured an eardrum or something
My daughter got her 3rd round of ear tubes one month ago. I was looking in her ear because she said it was itchy and at the right angle I could clearly see her tube. Is that normal? I don't recall seeing them before.
for context, i went to the primary care to get my ear flushed cuz i have hearing loss due to ear wax impaction. and, the doctor did flush a little earwax out but she said there's still earwax deep in my ear that she couldn't flush out. anyways, problem is, everything was fine until the doctor flushed my ear. im still feeling the pain in my right ear and loud ringing in my ear. plus, my ear canal is small so maybe the water is still in my ear ? idkk, what is happening to my ear rn ?
Hello all,
My right ear hurts when i speak i tested my hearing up to 8KHZ it came out normal but never tested for high frequency but hearing is muffled. And right ear hurts it feels like something snapped in my middle ear. That feeling happened after i had fleeting tinnitus twice in 2 days period. What is this what this can be? I need urgent help
Hey,
Just to keep it short, last summer (06/2023) I had my last otitis media which later even turned into a otitis externa on my right ear. I'm pretty used to it, had it several times 4-6 in my lifetime, of the time which i can remember (excluding infant arc). After it turned to an otitis externa too, I received antibiotics and the infection itself went away. Usually, if I get it, I let it heal on its own (+ onion treatment), but last time it went severe and since then my hearing is still impacted. So I checked it at the doctor and in the hospital, but they couldn't tell me anything. If I do a hearing test, there are no issues. Pressure is normal and so on. BUT the thing is that I would categorize it as conductive hearing loss, so for instance, if I hear things like acoustic noise, ventilation, or a vacuum cleaner, I hear it very "blury" like there is something in my ear, but there is nothing due to the docs. I've found out about sticky glue otitis media, which might be it, but the docs denied that assumption. If I put on a headset or earpods, there is almost no difference.
Another thing I can tell is that there are sometimes pressure difference between left and right. It fells like there is something off with the eustachian tube. My right ear just feels like a little full, like there is pus left which never cleared up.
So do you think this is a permanent hearing damage or something which can be cured? Im 24 and yeah thats not very nice to have, I can live with it but still as you can think I would prefer to hear as earlier.
Thank you in advance!
I am having a stapedectomy Wednesday and am wondering if I can drive by Friday? My only concern is the vertigo. Anyone had one that can provide some insight?
Has anybody you know or have you ever had a condition where you had so much pressure in one ear and could not get the pressure out you can feel and hear throbbing in it and it just keeps getting worse and worse they want to put a tube in my ear but they say that there's a 40% chance that it won't work does anybody know any other options or experiencing anything like this thank you
The receptionist was lovely, nurses was lovely and patient.
The experience with the doctor was weird, something abnormal. I don't know if he's high on something but his posture was off and kept licking his mouth. He was standing two feet in front of me while I was sitting down and I told him is it okay if you sit down. 😅 Then I explained what I thought was causing it which was me pushing the tragus and he asked me other questions. (Recap two weeks ago I pushed my tragus several times in the morning because it felt good.stupid I know then second or two my ear became muffled)
Then he grabs the otoscope and before he insert it he pushes my tragus several times without my permission. Which I told him to stop. Anyway, he gave me antibiotics and said my ear is look red which the doctor I saw several days ago said my ear looks fine. He also told me to go to see ENT which I agreed with and it'll take a week for my hearing to come back once I finish the antibiotics course. (Hopefully 🤞)
But honestly I'm fed up because I genuinely feel like I'm going round in circle with these doctors.
I'm going to take the antibiotics just incase I don't have a fever or massive pain. I have a tiny pain that come and go like every fortnight but that happens before this situation.
If you read all of this, I'm sorry and also I'm thankful. 😅
Has anyone ever had where their ears go blocked but u can unblock them straight away. My ears keep popping and i just have to press my ear or like tug on my neck and they unpop, but it’s annoying cause im basically like holding that side of my face to stop it from keep popping. It does it a lot at night too. It happens every so often, it will go on for a week and then it won’t happen for months and my ears will be fine. I don’t understand what it is and it’s so annoying. I once had my ears cleared out and now I look in my ear with camera and flashlight and I can sometimes see wax but sometimes not. I haven’t used earbuds for years as I’m scared of wax going deeper into my ear but then I’m also confused about how to clean my ears. Please anyone advice ?
I have good hearing in both ears. Just had a vibrating tuning fork pressed to my forehead & various parts of my skull & heard / felt nothing apart from the sound through the air or the pressure of the base of the fork.... does anyone have any ideas why the Rinne test and Weber test don't work on me?
Diagnosed with a perforated ear drum shortly after a course of antibiotics and ear wax removal - which led me to believe the drops may have seeped through to my cochlea and made me deaf forever. Although low frequencies still don't register properly, the middle and upper frequency regions are back online it seems - so here's what has helped me so far.
Step 1 - 10 days of prednisolone; 60mg for 7 days, and 30mg for the final 3 days. Eradicated any inflammation in the area and calmed it down - relieved some pressure, but didn't do an awful lot for my hearing. Side note, cured 10+ year old scars and arthritic swellings - an absolute miracle drug for me.
Step 2 - Mometasone Furoate nasal spray; 2 sprays daily in each nostril. There's a method to get it into your eustachian tube using the valsalva maneuver, and I can always feel this open up my sinuses. Helps with pressure.
Step 3 - Daily ginger shots. This one really seemed to do the trick for me, it's the only thing that led me to feel the 'pop' I was dying for. It seems to really attack the aggravated area in between the ears / nose / throat and you can really feel it working every time. Not much about it online, but it SERIOUSLY helps. Vitamin C + D also helps.
Step 4 - Sudafed. This, in conjunction with ginger shots, was an absolute game changer and I'm only on my second day of taking it. I'm on the oral form of it, but I can really feel the drainage and passages in my ear opening up every time I take two pills. It makes me feel that whatever was behind my ear drum is draining, slowly but surely. I can feel my nasal / ear passages clicking with each bulk of moving mucus (yuck) which is such a nice relief.
Step 5 - Chewing gum. Keep exercising the eustachian tube as much as you can, because you don't want whatever is stuck up in there to harden and become stubborn. Maybe twice a day for an hour or so, don't over do it.

I've had a perforated ear drum for just under 2 weeks so I don't know if my full hearing range will recover - but I'm well on the way to a much more comfortable way of using my ears again. It's a pleasure to hear people speak without getting a headache or dizziness now, so improvement is very much possible if you act QUICKLY. Don't give up guys.
