Rules:
No media indicating harm to ANY animals. Any media featuring ANY form of animal harm, such as abuse, stressful enclosures/situations that are not changed, or harmful acts towards animals for karma, is not allowed. This rule is placed to ensure that new, uneducated members do not perceive the situation as safe. It also aims to protect those who might post something unsafe from being attacked, and to make sure that their pets are living the safest and happiest life possible.
No seeking of or supplying medical advice. We are not veterinarians. Anyone claiming to be a veterinarian is not verified or confirmed by the moderation team in any way. If you have a medical concern, please contact your local veterinarians ASAP.
Hamsters interacting with other animal species. Hamsters interacting with other hamsters is risky - but hamsters interacting with other species of animals could be even worse given the circumstance. Any media indicating hamsters purposely being introduced to another pet/animal (for example: dogs, cats, rodents, birds, etc.) will be removed immediately. This is because it is VERY dangerous to the hamster, and can be potentially dangerous to the other animal(s).
No housing hamsters together. We do not allow users to promote or house adult hamsters together, or any form of interaction, whether under supervision or not. All domestic hamster species are strictly solitary. While dwarf hamsters have been known to live together in the wild, in captivity they are prone to stress, fighting, and even fatal injuries. The cohabitation or introduction of any hamsters is always unnecessary. Domestic hamsters do not benefit from same-species interaction. ~ This does not apply to hamster pups.
Hamsters outside. There are many high-risk elements in the outdoors to which small domestic pets should not be introduced. For example, parasites, harmful bugs, predators, germs, bacteria, dangerous (non-edible) plants, risky temperatures, and more. It can also be very stressful for the hamster.
Hamsters taking baths. Unless the video/photo is taken at the vet’s office with the vet bathing the hamster, it is not allowed. Bathing is unnecessary unless a veterinarian in person says otherwise. It risks the hamster’s safety, health, and is extremely stressful, so it violates rule one.
No photos of deceased hamsters. Tributes and memorials are fine. However, any media showing a deceased hamster is not allowed because it may be upsetting for some.

Be civil. While participating in our community, we ask that you remain respectful and kind towards other members. Thus, any unkind content will be removed and bans will be handed out as necessary. A few examples include, but are not limited to: trolling, being inappropriate, excessively criticising without providing any useful sources or information to help out the user, slurs, etc.
Must be educated/approved to breed hamsters. You may only post about breeding if you are an approved breeder. If you are looking to find homes for your litters, you must be approved. If you would like to be approved, please send us a message via modmail for your personal flair.
Users have the permission to correct others. Attacking someone for giving advice to an uneducated or unknowing owner is prohibited. Users only try to inform others because if the person never asks for help, they may never correct their care. However, nitpicking small things (for example: they don’t have a ton of bedding but it goes over 6 inches) is unnecessary. Spamming ‘helpful’ comments is also not tolerated and may result in a warning or ban.
Don't push extreme standards on others. When educating someone or giving advice, please remember that every situation is different and not everyone can have the perfect setup. You can recommend high standards and ways to make the enclosure perfect, but pushing and forcing that on people is unnecessary. For example: The owner is trying their best to give the hamster all it needs but they can only afford a bin cage that is above the bare minimum.
No advertisement. Any posts advertising items will be removed. This means you are not allowed to promote a product for profit and/or scamming. If the purpose is to supply or obtain useful information or products and it’s not for commercial use, it does not violate this rule.
Not original content. It’s very tiring seeing the exact same video/photo pop up regularly. If you do not have content typed, recorded, or photographed by you, please refrain from posting or ask permission first.
Please have fun whilst you are with us, and feel free to ask for any help about your hammy buddy!

i often see this bug/insect on wooden objects and my hamster food. i’m wondering if it’s harmful to my hamster
Am I overthinking..?? My Syrian was out of his cage on my desk while I did some work, he was sitting and eating his treat before he started exporing my desk I didn’t realize that my water bottle was making a small puddle of water on the desk and he walked in it, I realized because little paw prints started showing and little wet marks i immediately made he walk over a towel as he wouldn’t sit still for me to wipe his feet but now I’m over thinking that he will get sick.

I had a winter white dwarf hamster and recently my hamster passed away. I don’t understand she had a very big cage, plenty of attention and she looked a healthy weight. You can see a bit of my hamster in the top left of the picture.
This was a date with my bf😭🫶🏼 He loves her as much as I do
cinnamon has started sleeping out in the open. She’s sleeping in her coconut right now. This means that she’s a lot more comfortable with me. comfortable enough to the point where she doesn’t feel like she has to hide in her bedding when she sleeps! (Of course she still sleeps in her bedding !!)
This makes me super happy because when hamsters sleep they’re at their most vulnerable point so that means she trusts me a lot 🥹🥹🥹
Hello, I recently got a Chinese dwarf hamster about a month ago. After reading this sub I made the switch to a bigger tank so thanks for that. But now I’m facing a different problem it seems that everytime I try to interact with him he runs away. Am I doing something wrong? I feed him always give him treats and still wont eat any type of food from my hand. Is it a ghost hamster? I know he’s happy because he’s always in his burrow and stores food and runs on his wheel. Please help I want a happy hammy
i used a calculator online because im awful at math and it was very incorrect. my cage is 4ft by 4ft and 2ft tall there is about 2304 floor space. if someone can help me figure it out i would appreciate so much i want the bedding to be about 12 inches right now It's at 5 inch because the calculator was wrong.
My perfect hammie
I've seen some really big wheels here for Russian hamsters, why are they that big?
please contribute
just being cautious with this, it's only a small thing and i presumed it to be sleep or something from him sleeping but it hasn't gone after a couple days now, and almost looks as if it is rooted under the eye? sounds so serious worded like this but isn't as bad as it sounds i don't think!
Hello, i just found out my young dwarf does this lol never saw one do this, what you think about this? She’s very very very energic… she can run like 5/6 hours straight in the wheel, she does the same path over and over again (food bowl, wheel for like 5 mins then food bowl then wheel etc etc.) today she tried to do this. She has like 14cm of bedding still she doesnt dig… i dunno what to do I’m scared she’s not good with her cage… i got her like 20 days ago…
Hi! I have a new hamster and she was lifting her tail yesterday when I stroked her back so I figured she was in heat and today she’s been extremely hyperactive whilst I’ve had her out. I don’t think it’s due to stress or boredom because she’s been completely fine before this and she has lots of toys in her cage and sawdust to burrow in. Normally she runs around for a bit then chills out and will get sleepy whilst I pet her but this time she’s been continuously running around on my bed and hands for over an hour. Any info appreciated! :)
Please help, This is Herb, she has a large bucastate enclosure with minimum 8in of bedding/chipsi stuff, multiple hides, different foods , enrichments and treats, puzzles, logs, boredom breakers, large wheel, sprays, sand bath, soil bath, toilet, everything that has been recommended, but she is constantly looking and climbing on things to try and find an escape route, she will climb up the front door and even climb up the cameras I have to spy on her, trying to get out. I also have a large playpen with a tunnel, loads of space, with all her essentials in, for outdoor time but in there she is even worse, stressing and climbing the walls, going crazy to try and escape, I really don’t understand what I’m doing wrong, or what more I can do to make her happy. please can you help me, I’m so stressed and totally devastated. Pic to show how she looks like butter wouldn’t melt !! TYIA

so i adopted a new hammy a month ago, she's about three months old now. she was really sweet/shy at the start, never bit anyone but now as she got more comfortable she started nibbling at my fingers, a lot of times to the point it hurts. everyday since i got her i tried to give her a treat or regular food mix so we had some bonding time so i thought maybe she bites because she thinks of me as food? or is something wrong with her?
Every single time, I try to stopped my hamster from going somewhere there are not supposed to, this suddenly becomes their life mission to do so.
Saying "as stubborn as an hamster" should be a thing!
