Hey all. I will be out and about during the upcoming eclipse on April 8, 2024 and will be setting up in the path of totality.

I plan on operating using a combination of voice and SSTV at that time over 2m FM (not SSB). I have placed an APRS object for my intended operating position near Lansdowne, Ontario, Canada (location may change depending on conditions, but should be within 50km of that location).

Objective: To see how far TX/RX can be acheived without using HF equipment. Frequencies: 144.930 MHz for SSTV 146.460 MHz for voice. Antennas: Arrow II and N9TAX Slim Jim (as the situation dictates) Power: 25W

I am planning on starting around 2:00 PM EST (1900 UTC) and ending around 4:30 PM EST (2030 UTC).

Anyone wanting to participate is welcome to do so.

I will be using MMSSTV and modes PD50, PD120, B/W8, and B/W12 (very likely others as well).

Any thoughts or input on this activity is welcome.

Going to be on Diego Garcia, VQ9 over the winter. Will be bringing a QRP rig for 80-15 and a Flex 6600. Since the demise of the ham club station in 2018, I'll have to erect antennas and come up with some kind of power source. I plan to operate primarily CW. Will probably get some sort of FT8 setup going eventually, but it means lugging more stuff out to some quiet area. If condx or good, I will have a mic and try SSB.

Even with 100w on 15m, it's going to be a tough shot from the US. Anyone in VU, VK, or east Africa around?

My call is TBD - it's assigned by the British authorities after arrival and making a license application.

For my next "mini-expedition" I'll be operating from Faroe Islands as OY/LB5SH, September 17th-20th 2021. Primary modes will be SSB and FT8, but I might try some CW for the SAC CW contest which is the same weekend. The antenna I'll be using is a multiband vertical capable of 160-6m so I will be on whatever band is open at that time. From the looks of it I'll be running a modest 100W, but if my repair parts for my PA arrives in time I'll have a wee bit more power to play with.

If you need OY in the log but are having difficulties making it through, let me know and we can schedule a QSO. I'll confirm on LoTW and QRZ.com as always.

I'll be QRV on JW Svalbard as JW/LB5SH this Thursday and Friday, SSB and FT8. I'll try to be on the air as much as possible.

The following two days I'll be participating in the CQWPX contest as JW2T (but no skeds there I'm afraid)

Not sure how the conditions are up there at the moment, but let's keep our fingers crossed. I don't have more than ~3-400W output max, but according to friends up there it should be enough to cover Europe, North America, and a good portion of Asia.

Anyway, if you're having difficulties getting JW in the log, let me know and we'll sked a QSO. As long as we're able to exchange reports I'm more than happy to confirm the QSO on QRZ.com, LoTW and ClubLog. I also have QSL cards on the way, if you're into that kind of thing.

W4C (We're 4 Chili) will be on the air 23 October 2020- 25 October 2020 on 80,40,20 and 2 meters for the BCARC Chili Cookoff. QSO cards will be sent to those who work the station, with a special certificate also being sent to those who work the station during the chili cook off on 24 October 2020 between 1800-2200 Central Daylight Time. The station will be available from approximately 0700-2300 Central Daylight Time each day of the event. Please bear with us during the actual cook off, as this will be a GOTA (Get On The Air) station during that time. Greetings all. I've been hearing about various POTA activity and wanted to encourage Redditors to post any spots for these POTA activations so we can help generate QSOs.

TD;DR: VHF contest for any band above 50 MHz (6 m), any mode starts today at 1800 UTC and ends 0259 UTC on Monday.

This will be a longer post. One thing I've noticed is that a lot of guy on here have a technician license. Notice, I didn't say "just a technician license" as there is a lot you can do with a technician license that most don't realize. One of those things is the VHF contest. It says VHF but read it as 50 MHz+. You can operate on 440 MHz, 1.2 GHz, etc. Why am I posting this? This is a contest that anyone can do. I will be operating FT8 and SSB but my wife will be FM-only.

Why should you care? This is a good opportunity to practice your skills. Yes, there is some skill in amateur radio, especially when handling a pile-up or busy stations. How can you participate? The easiest way to participate is to tune to 146.520 MHz for FM or 144.200 for SSB. There is an FM calling frequency for 70 cm at 446.000 MHz but this can be used repeaters so check your local repeater council's website for details. You can do this contest with a handheld. You can do it with a mobile radio. There are plenty of people that do every year. Your signal will go further than you think. You can also head to a parking garage or top floor of your house or a hill. All of that will help. You may be the person that another operator the points they need. Just search the band plan for simplex frequencies and call CQ ( http://www.arrl.org/band-plan ). You can also just look for people calling CQ and respond. All you need is your call and grid square. It also helps to give a signal report so they know how they are doing. Since you are close to each other, you can give a more precise location. For example, for another Fort Wayne contact, I would say that I live by Foster Park as that gives them a better idea of how their signal is doing. Just remember that it is a contest so there isn't much of a conversation.

This will be our first POTA activation, park K-1507. We've got an inverted V, and a high spot on a hill at the local state park picked out, and a little over 1KWh of battery power with us, roughly equivalent to a big honking 100Ah lead acid deep cycle, only much lighter since its 18650's.

This as much a test of our setup, and a learning experience, as it is a full proper activation. Our goal is to learn as much as possible and be even better prepared for next time! We're not half-butting it by any means, but there's only so much prep you can do, then you just gotta go out there and learn by doing!
