Members of the Council, welcome to our weekly assembly.
These posts are scheduled to happen every week. Each week, a different faction is proposed and every time we will try to orient the discussion about either "nerf" or "buff".
Faction of the Week: Northern Realms
While you can still use these topics to talk about other balance suggestions, please try to focus on the theme of the week. Those topics are intended to give a chance to all factions to be talked about.
Discussions can be about modifying a whole archetype or addressing individual cards.
Potential sources if needed: GwentData, Gwent.one, PlayGwent.com, Balance Council Generator
Hi redditors.
I am a new player that recently started and I am naturaly short on ressources.
I have basic Frost Deck that works okay and then put everything else into a Devotion Vampire Deck that I like a lot and isn't too bad either, even though I am aware that Devotion Vampires ain't the strongest option and then finally a NG deck that I saw online from Lerio I believe. It's Enforcers with Enslave 6 and Emhyr. Can be pretty strong and quite engaging to play but one really has to pay very close attention all the time, so I would enjoy something more relaxed and more focused on building my board maybe. Something easier.
Monsters preferably, as I have the most cards with them. Swarmy or Deathwish with Relicts. I don't really know where to go to with my cards that is why I am asking the people here, as it is surely way easier for you guys with all the experience here, to spot the way with the least amount of ressources needed. Here are the more or less relevant cards that I have in that regard to start:
Manor's Dark Secret
Dagon
Brewess Ritual
Weavess Incantation
Mourntart
Plaque Maiden
Caranthir Ar Feiniel
Alpha Werewolf
Scratch a lot
Golyat
Weavess
The Beast
Whispess Tribute
Brewess
Is there anything chill to build with some of those?
(I threw them into one deck to share for convenience, but I am on mobile but could not find the option to share on the website)
I also have a Lord Riptide and Parasite and Toad and things like that to fit in if needed but no Nekkers, Renfris, Heatwaves or anything like that atm. Scorch for the lols though. Every other yellow is quite strictly geared towards the decks I mentioned and therefore not included.
Does anything in particular spring to mind with anybody when looking at the list?
Obviously not all of them are supposed to go into one deck it is just the latest starting point.
I am thankful for any inputs and directions.
Got destroyed by someone with this deck so I stole the idea and tweaked it. Only wins 50% of the time, but when it wins it really wins.
I left Gwent after Homecoming because I dislike the direction this game was heading. I have all cards previous to Homecoming and a lot of scraps . I also have Thronebreaker cards because I liked that adventure.
Now I have nothing to play because there is no actual good TCG that is currently online. Currently playing Duel MAsters Play, but the second series come to an end there (as tournament modes), therefore there is no reason to delve in in the third . Should I come back to Gwent? Tried Faeria (that crap is imbalanced), Marvel SNAP (too greedy and P2W), Pokemon pocket (lack of gameplay).
How much time it will take to actually build a viable collection in Gwent considering they released 5 expansions?
I am not a saint. I stole this deck's original design from shinmiri2 a while ago , but I kept finding many tiny weaknesses so I changed alot in it due to the balance changes and my personal struggles against some decks . I am currently rank 5 though and I think this is a good deck to climb with , so please point out any weaknesses and flaws and if you have solutions for them , please feel free to say so .
Ive been trying to get the deck to work but every time I make a deck with all 6 prov cost cards except the Renfri Gang and i play I see cards with provision costs all over the place where I am expecting the cards to be random 6 provison costs. I dont understand how I can get 8,9 10 provision cost cards in a deck thats suposed to keep the same provision cost when it changes the cards
The loading screen from a while back with the elf kneeling on the grass. I always thought it was really cool and it had my favorite menu music. Is there a way to get it back?
The experiment with Balance Council yields mixed feelings - more positive than negative, but, certainly, it has its downsides. On the positive note, we can observe greater variability of decks, even among meta, restoration of some forgotten cards, resurgence of some archetypes (like GN Deathwish or GN Spell'a'tell) and, maybe above all, that it keeps the game afloat. The flaws are (among others): some of the new decks are very midrange'y (like MO Harpies), there are sick ideas like "nerf sponges", some archetypes are buried deep and will never make it to even playable level again (NG, I am looking at you - cultists and mill are prime examples here), many cards will never be brought back to playability as BC lacks the patience to do so (infamous Milaen and Stennis, to name a few) and endless yo-yoing (Nauzicaa Sergeant sends his regards).
I was then thinking if we could tweak the Balance Council, of course retrospectively and theoretically, as this is never going to happen, to at least try to mitigate some of these maladies. My proposal would like this:
In what ways is that better, you may ask? I see some areas of improvement:
I invite any (civil) discussion on the matter ;)
I asked chat GPT for the syndicate deck and it gave me this:

I just started playing again after a few years of not playing. Played with an old lock down nilfgaard deck and manage to win against a NR inspire deck. Game is still as fun as I remember. I will be playing. (Stopped playing when Renfri was announced)
I've tried several times and keep getting a message that the version of the game is no longer active, it notes that there are no servers and also can't be updated.
Human (Skellige)

My Syncdicate collection has finally reached a state where I can fully compete in this meta. The question is: Which archetype is the most stable? Gangs? Poison? Vice? MIxed?
I looked at Shinmiri's googledrive and some of the decks seem a bit outdated.
hey ya a new player here i've been playing gwent for like a week now and it's been a ton of fun like there isn't any online games in which when you're defeated you'll smile and say that was fun man, instead of getting frustrated. yet gwent pulls it off and is fun even if you lose.
But recently i've been digging through the negative steam reviews and the main complaints was that, in the higher ranks you'll mostly see 1 or 2 decks that are the current meta. how true is that in the current state of the game ? it'll be a big shame if it is true because the game is simply awesome and i love it.
What the hell is up with this event? Mfs triple Compass me, they play three copies of gold card, hell someone played Renfri's gang and summoned a full row of them and next turn he does it again. The event says it replaces your cards with ones that you dont own. That's it. Am i missing something?
Just started this game after becoming bored of every other card game lol. Looking for good begginer decks, if possible under Scoia'tael...cause i already invested a bit into them lol. Thanks!
At the start of the game, transform all your cards into one from the same faction and rarity that wasn't in your starting deck.
Human (Nilfgaard)
4 Power, 4 Provisions (Common)
Deploy: Infuse an enemy unit with "Whenever a card enters or leaves your deck, damage self by 1", then, if it wasn't a Token, Spawn its base copy at the bottom of your opponent's deck.
Voted least likely to live to old age by the other chemists in the academy. And that was really saying something.

To preface this, I have been playing gwent ever since the first journey, and I consistently am able to reach pro rank and ~2500 mmr and even higher ST fmmr.
With that out of the way, I believe that the current meta symbisois devotion deck is desperetly in need of a nerf. I just played a game with it against SK warriors and managed to 2-0 them while hero passing with 2 cards left in hand.
Now, as most of you know, in gwent control decks should be able to counter engine decks pretty easily (in theory at least) meaning that the warriors player should have probably won that match up, or atleast not lost as badly as they did. Keep in mind, that in that round, I mainly playeed nature cards with Freixnet and Simlas double harvest. This should make it clear that last council's "nerf" of this deck was just a slap on the wrist, people prefering to flip flop NG as always (an already underperforming faction).
Anyway, I propose nerfing some of the cards in that deck, like Simlas or Freixnet, while keeping Eithne the same to not encourage simply switching back over to the almost equally as busted non-devo version of that deck.
What do you guys thing?
Hi,
Planning to replay Thronebreaker but it bugs me that the unit cards (Scytheman, Arbalest etc) aren't in their premium/animated form. Only Caldwell, Raynard etc. have their animated versions. Is it possible to somehow enable it for units as well?
Just finished a game using this Northern Relms mage deck. The overall strategy is to ideally play Raffard's Vengeance first thing round one and immediately inspire it. This will allow you to play a bronze mage, placing it next to Raffard. Cintrian Spellweaver should be your go-to and if you are blue coin target it with Crystal Skull. Cintrian Spellweavers have a huge synergy payoff with the amount of spells and mages in this deck. If you can continue stacking mages next to Rafford it triggers the crew 2 point damage ability. Runemage is another card you will want to get down early if possible because it affords more flexibility with Runeword card play. I think I counted 5 possible Runeword plays. These spells and the mages count for a total of 2 damage per turn per Spellweaver. Chapter of Wizards can be used for mid round carry over after reseting the order with Dwimveandra. Students and Alumni can be used early and reset using Casting Contest. Necromancy is nice to bring back a student which allows you to continue boosting its patience from previous play if not yet triggered. A potential play that can be useful for a point swing is to pull an Aretuza Adept from Runeword with a number of patience cards on the board. Again, i think this deck has some great flexibility, control potential. It's pitfalls are against Nilfgard control or decks with point slams.
I mean the decks where she's paired with Passiflora and the treasure scenario along with cards that generate points when SY makes coins. Any tips and suggestions to beat those decks? I always get crushed by them lol
I wanted to get better at Torres play in first and second form. I understand that against MO or NR it is better to play him first form, and against ST and NG second form, cause of deploy value + henry of course. In what matches it is better, when i play torres first form? I would love to hear about your experience against specific decks
Dryad (Scoiatael)
4 Power, 9 Provisions (Legendary)
Deploy: At the end of this turn, double the amount of boost on self.
Brokilon bleeds… and not even I can heal it.
