Mediocre superficial article on the Dead in today’s Washington Post as they come to town for KC Honors. The author barely understands the band. States that the GAMH show in 75 was taped for a live record - One from the Vault. Uh, actually it was a radio broadcast that 20-some yrs later was released as a CD. A couple of nice photos. https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/music/2024/12/04/grateful-dead-kennedy-center-honors-hart-kreutzmann-weir/
Lets hear it! Doing some month relistens while at work lately:

Here’s to 15,000+ more minutes of musical magic in 2025 and beyond! ✌🏼☮️💨
RIP Phil
Spanish ladies all went to Phil that night
Does anyone know the date of this picture? I am flipping through Rock Scully’s “Living with the Dead” and he has it dated 1968. I have this image as a poster on my wall and always thought it was 2/4/70 at the Family Dog. Anyone have a legitimate date for this pic?
Also: is Jerry playing the Sunburst Strat in this picture? It would’ve been too early for Alligator right? Or is it a different Fender Strat?
Does anyone know if there are any full acoustic sets on Spotify besides Reckoning? Reckoning is one of my favorite live albums, but I need to hear some fresh acoustic Jerry solos! Are there any other acoustic shows?
I’ll start: 7/12/87
I was a bit thrown a couple weeks ago that they just made a quick mention of Phil's passing on there. I'm hoping they do a full episode on him in the near future. I know those things take a minute to make, but you would think they could pull something together that would really honor the man.
Just my two bits. Talk amongst yourselves
What’s up guys 29yo DeadHead here. I was born 8/3/95 during the days between, six days before Jerry left us. I love the Dead more than anybody wants to hear about, except maybe here. I’ve consumed more music, books, podcast, interviews than any sane man should but it’s not enough.
I never saw Jerry.
How do I cope with this?
I'm writing a 5-6 page research paper for my World Musics class. I'm wondering of any cool avenues to dive in. The constraints are opened ended. What ideas do y'all have? These are some formats that the professor gave us to potentially go off of:
Coverology: Find a song that have covers that somehow transform the original, either musically, lyrically, or somehow contextually. Write about how the move to a new time, place and set of musicians shifts the meaning of the song. If there are multiple covers that do this, feel free to include more than one version.
The underdog: Explore the circumstances of the creation of a given album or career of an artist that you believe hasn't been given the credit that they deserve. Argue for the artist or work, not simply based on your own taste, but by gathering and presenting evidence of their value and significance within the cultural field/genre/fan community/scene they are working within.
Anatomy of a fiasco: Write about a musical event or recording project that there is a consensus about it not going well at all. Use this case study not to mock the beleaguered musician(s), nor to just say why you think it was bad based on your own taste, but to interpret more generally what that major failure says about the cultural terrain that the artist was working within. For example, sometimes a project can be rejected by fans if it somehow goes against the understood rules of a given musical genre. Or a historical or political change might happen between the time that the album, song or tour was conceived, and when it was released.
The unwitting activist: Analyze the circumstances of a performance or recording in which the artist didn't intend to be political at all, but that the circumstances of the work's reception turned it political.

NO WONDER Jerry wouldn't play it

EDIT: I ASKED A SECOND TIME AND GOT A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT ANSWER
Looking for a copy of this show if someone may still have one. Have trade material.
Found it in my local record shop. Had to grab it.
This is just the game desert island. You are stranded on an island and can only choose 1 album. But for this version you can only choose 1 of the Europe 72 recordings that have been released. Which show are you going with?
Also, the original release and vol. 2 are not options since they are a mix of the shows throughout the tour.
Let’s have some fun and hear which Europe 72 show you’re going to choose for your desert island experience.
