I just bought two vines Carols and Hall. My biggest challenge is trying to keep them aesthetically acceptable to my wife. I think I know the spot I want to plant them. I'd like to place them against the fence adjacent to my side patio. It's only a section of about twelve to fifteen feet long. If I grow them in pots can I keep them smaller and more manageable or will they not do well? Can I cut them back if they get too long? I'm not overly concerned with getting crazy yields just want them to look good and produce a few grapes. I also don't really want to install a heavy duty wire trellis. Any advice or knowledge you can impart on me will be greatly appreciated!
Hello
I inherited a grapevine when I moved into this house ~4 years ago, I've been trying to get a good harvest but I can't quite manage it. Usually, they spoil while they are still very green (and too sour for me to think that's how I'm supposed to eat them). It's a very large vine, spans about 20 feet on a raised horizontal trellis (imagine a laid-down ladder). Makes a ton of shoots, and a ton of grapes, they just never go well.
Do I need to prune as they start to grow? Do I need to cut some of the buds?
I prune all the canes back every fall. No idea what variety, I live near Seattle WA USA but I don't know what zone I'm in
Thanks in advance
Hi, I’ve been growing a couple of grape vines indoor from cuttings. It’s been going well, but the one with the most growth is the one I’m growing hydroponically. For some reason these spots have appeared on the leaves the past few weeks and I’m not sure what to do. Any thoughts? They seem to have different causes.
Also the ones in pots have mostly stalled in their leaf production. Not sure if it’s pot size or nutrients.
I realize this is a random question, but is there a proper word for bunches of grapes or plants that produce fruits in bunches? Figured you guys might know! Thank you!
I have a cattle panel arch just like this one between 2 of my raised beds. Does anyone know if I can fit 4 grapevines on it?
I just bought a 3 year old grape vine offline and they came in today, I was wondering if it is safe to transplant it into a pot temporarily as I am setting up the place where I will permanently place them. thanks
Hello. I need some help or just consoling. I was cutting some branches of a dead tree and accidentally clipped a bunch of vines from our grapes. They are now actively leaking liquid. Did I just kill my grapes or will the be ok? How can I remedy or is time the only option?
Hi All,
I grow my own grapes and just found a mockingbird nest in one of my vines. What should I do? Will leaving it harm my crop or is it fine to let the eggs develop? I can’t find a straight answer for this. Thanks!
I have been growing grapes a few years now and I’m always in search of rare genetics or super unique flavors, or even just varieties with interesting histories. I’ve been hunting for Kyoho cultivar of grapes for a while and this is the last effort.
If anyone here knows where to get them or generally also enjoys collecting rare food varieties or grapes I’ll list some of the ones I have the ability to trade cuttings of.
Grapes: Himrod, Canadice, Blueberry, Niagara, Verdelet Seibel 9110, Red Flame, Zesty Red lollipop, Champanel, Condord, Catabwa
Hi
Several of my 2 year old vines DID grow to the top wire last year, but didn’t get pencil thick enough to clip and then let branch out to the side
What should I do?
Prune back to 1 bud meet the ground again like last year, and just fertilize the heck out of it to get it up?
Not sure if a little cold snap affected them or putting them in bigger pots, anyone recognise what the problem may be? Thanks
So I have a deck that is 6 ft off the ground, and I would like to grow grapes to provide yearly coverage from the sun and a tasty snack. However there is no room on this deck to have a plant growing. I am thinking of growing the grape plant on the ground, having the truck grow up the height of the deck and up to an arbour, then let the plant spread out and grow grapes. But how tall can the trunk grow?
Hi, I need advice on pruning this grapevine. At the beginning it was being trained as a double cordon, but I just changed to double guyot at year 3 (now the vine is about 5 years old)
I'm not satisfied with this grapevine shape because the branches are not coming from the trunk but from the 2 arms or canes (from when it was trained and pruned as a double cordon) and would like to some advice on how to prune it. I'm also thinking about graft 2 buds into the trunk, so I would have canes coming from the trunk instead of the ancient canes I converted to guyot 😊
Here are 3 photos of my grapevine and the pruning I did this year

Off to a good start, central NC, USA Zone 8
hello! relieved this 3yr plant vine last month. kept it in my home and of course it started growing. my question is do I plant her outside? or should I keep her in her original pot outside - since now by me it's warm outside. TIA first time grape grower so any advice is appriciated!
I'm looking to grow some table grapes and I personally love the extra crisp/crunchy textured ones. I live in zone 8 where its humid and gets decent rain, so I think most varieties should grow fine here.
What I don't want are thick skinned or slip skin varieties. No mascadines, they grow wild everywhere here and I literally DONT need anymore.
Healthy vines now losing bark and vigor in Virginia, US. Main vine showing patches of white. 3-7yr old muscat vines. Did find laternflies on them this fall. Any insight or suggestions welcome. Will try to upload pictures later.
