I was recently shopping for a new 5th wheel toy hauler and noticed something out of place on the weight rating sticker. The GVWR was 14,000 pounds but had two axles each with 6000 pound ratings and only 6 stud wheels.
Question for everyone, are these 6k axles under spec'd for the GVWR of 14,000 lbs?
So, I bought a mid-1980s class C this summer and so far, it has been a mechanical nightmare. I think I have it fixed but would be reluctant to take a long road trip until I'm sure my fueling issues are finally resolved. My question is, is it advisable to try to take your RV on a trip in winter with high probabilities of snow/weather even in the best case, much less when the thing is mechanically questionable?
How do these things (mine is a dually if that helps) handle snow and icy conditions? How does the furnace work? Will it keep me warm enough inside or will I still freeze in case of a breakdown? Just in general, drive my RV in winter or no way?
Hi, I'm preparing a 6 month roadtrip with my family (Children are 4 and 2) starting end of January. We are coming over from the UK
I'm looking at buying a 2016 Winnibago Class C RV from a dealership in Sacremento and agreeing on a Buyback with them to avoid any hassle at the end. (see Link)
The cost of the RV is $40,000 + Sales tax = $44,600
The Dealer has said they would buy it back for 28-$32,000 depending on condition of the vehicle.
This would leave me around $15,000 short excluding the purchase of everything I need to live inside (bed sheets, kitchen kit, tableware, camping chairs etc...)
Is this a fair deal in your opinion for 6 month of usage (~ 10k mliles)?
Alternative is to buy an older RV but i'm worried it will come with too many roadside issues...
I'm looking for an owners manual and floor plan/layout and possibly some interior pics of a 1993 skyline Nomad 5th wheel model 2955!!???!! Please help... thanks so much!!!
If you are traveling across the USA and just need a place to stop overnight, there are lots of little towns (especially in the Great Plains states, for some reason) that have a "municipal campground" that is free to use for one or two (sometimes up to 3) nights. Many of these campgrounds have electrical hookups and some have water. A few even have shower houses.
Best source I've found for finding these is the web site http://freecampsites.net
Obviously being free these are all "first come first serve" i.e. non reservable. But if it's been a long day and you just need to lay up for the night, they can be awesome.
Hopefully this won't lead to them getting overcrowded and overrun (I don't think it will; most of these are in small, out-of-the-way towns that are not on major interstates.)
Anyway, it's a good way to save your money for other stuff if all you need is a place to park.
EDITED TO ADD: I think it goes without saying that if you use these, be a good citizen, don't abuse the privilege and if they have a donation can, throw a few bucks in there so we can keep these resources open.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
Hi! Trying to buy a camper for a family of 6.. need recommendations.. camper will not be moving much .. budgets is unde lr 30k .. looking to buy used.. in Texas
So apparently my thesis was correct, I have a rodent leaving on the second floor of my RV lay out (1994 Fleetwood bounder)
Everyone knows my story but I won't put up with the bastards eating my property.
Anyone got any "extra violent" trap recommendations?
All areas have been sealed off, one ate a bit of my bait test where I plugged a whole with dicon.
Ready to go to war !!!!! What evers down there is less then 1 but no more then 3.
I did some main heating area clean out yesterday and confirmed a light presence of rodent stuff in the furnace, no poop but there was a half eaten acorn shell.. There was mainly rust, which got vaacced out but I noticed one of my foaming repairs dropped straight to the bottom floor next to the heater.
I am undergoing some repairs soon so I'd like to make sure there is no where they can get in and out
We are looking to purchase a 2022 Surveyor Legend 19RBLE. Our last Keystone had water damage and want to trade it on. Between the trade in and cash , this RV falls within four range and the type of floor we are looking for. We were looking for E-Pros, but they are hard to come by. Any thoughts?
We have owned a travel trailer and loved it, I did most the maintenance on it... we are looking at a class A diesel. I am concerned about where to buy: private sale, or blue compass, NIRVC, or other large dealers, the closest dealer is 2 hours away, nothing local, I was told buy at least 2 deals when it comes to service they take care of people who bought from them 1st, then get to the ones on the list 2nd, not sure exactly what that means, but those of you that have Class A and needed service.. how was it when you bought private and needed service. or bought from a different deal to get service? we will buy what we want; floor plan and all that. but where is the bigger question.
I’m getting a new RV ..just wondering what is recommended for road side assistance. The RV dealer is recommending..well…themselves. But wondered about doing Good Sam’s.
Getting a fifth wheel and not sure I’ll be up to changing a tire on it. Do they even have spares?
Thank you!
So my starter hit some water and needs to be replaced. The serial number on it is non-legible. I have a fleetwood bounder diesel. I have called around a few places and couldn’t find anyone that could even tell me where to get the part. One diesel truck place did have it but wanted a crazy amount for it. Anyone know how to find these parts? It has a 300hp cat turbo diesel with an Alison transmission. Sure someone has to have a database online with these parts etc right?
I'm getting this blinking message on my power box inside my camper. I'm not sure why I don't have any battery. I have solar panels on my roof, and it should be fully powered currently. Is there something I need to reset and how might I do that?
Wife and I have been talking and are highly considering a nomadic life style. Looking for more experiences and less material for our family 2 children included. We have a 1 year plan to sort out selling house and liquidating household items. Upgrading pickup from a f150 to f350 diesel and searching for a 5th wheel that meets or semi meets our requirements.
So I guess after all that what I’m looking for are suggestions on 5th wheels that are designed to be moved often say maybe every 10-12 weeks?
What are some suggestions you may have for first timers with a family?
Perhaps some dos and don’t?
Thanks
I drive and F150 now and pull a travel trailer but just found out the timing chain needs to be replaced plus a bunch of other stuff. Wife and I would like to have a fifth wheel eventually something in the 35+foot , 13k lbs range. Dually would be impractical as for at least a few more years I need to commute and park. Looking for reliability first and foremost. We would like to full time it at least half the year when retirement comes.
looking for lithium batteries that are drop in replacement for agm batteries without switching converters or any of that crap. currently have 12 lifeline 6v agm with a magnum converter. can i just replace the 12 agm batteries with 12 lithium batteries (wired in parallel for 12v obviously)? it’s a 2007 5th wheel.
I am curious about being able to pack and run my 12v fridge the night before leaving. Other than that and the weight reduction, I can’t think of anything.
2 adults and 2 kids ages 10 and 12. Want some comfort so looking for 25 - 33 feet in length. Is there a big difference I should be aware of for A vs. C? I know the front window is different in the two, but is that a big deal? Any advice is appreciated.
Just upgraded from a single to dual axle travel trailer. This is my first experience with one.
What do you guys use for leveling? I had always used the camco "lego" blocks and I suspect they will still be fine for cases where I'm only an inch or two off or so, but I'm not sure about more significant slopes. Curious what works for you guys?
I have read a lot of advise recommending focusing on age of the RV, not the miles. I am looking at Cruise America refurbished 2019 Thor Majestic 28A units. Pricing is all based on miles. Would you take a 133k mile unit, or a 174k mile unit for $6-8k less?
I am planning on getting the powertrain warranty, so not worried about extra engine wear, but a little about camper condition.
My bigger concern, however, is while looking at private sale RVs, I see plenty in 120-150k mile range, but none near 200k miles. So, if I buy at 133k and sell some years later around a 150k, I have an idea on what price it will sell for. If I bought the 174k mile unit and wanted to sell in a few years at 200k+ miles, will the price drop be a lot more?
Hello I just bought this mess including the space (it’s an organised camping) and I know that the condition is awful but the caravan is unharmed without smells and anything and it was very cheap.
I plan on throwing everything away except the caravan and I want to create a beautiful yard something with string lights, pillows and grass etc
Please don’t judge this i am just 21 years old and I wanna do everything with my own money and stuff just saying this cause I know it looks awful but I can make it beautiful with some of your ideas Ps. The yard end is not in the fence but where I actually stand thanks in advance
I am looking at a 2020 Chevy Express 3500 (V8 6 L Gas) passenger van to haul a 2016 Dutchman Aerolite 242 BHS. GCWR is 16,000 lbs. GVWR of car is 9600 lbs. The Payload is 3,431 lbs. The GVWR of the trailer is 6600 lbs (dry weight 5,574). I do not ever travel with water or sewage in any of the lines/tanks, but I could see us being close-ish to the max rating with cargo/food (2 adults 4 kids ages 4,6,9,11). The vehicle says it can tow either 9,200 lbs, or 9,600 (a little confusion there) The tongue weight of trailer is 735 pounds, and weight distribution hitch (weighted for 10,000 lbs) with the sway bars is about 90 pounds. A current high estimate of weight of the 6 of us is 650 lbs. We are not heavy packers, but like to go on 2 week summer trips so we would have to have a decent amount of stuff. When I run these numbers it looks to me like the vehicle is capable of towing, but I am really hoping someone with more knowledge than me can take a look at these numbers and give me some input. A truck is not an option at this point based on family size. SUV’s from my research have lower tow ratings, and much lower payload capacities (and are pricier). But, I am open to other vehicles if anyone has suggestions. I greatly appreciate any input you can give. I had a 2013 Chevy suburban that the transmission died last year during our family vacation and it was a nightmare. It was a 2013 with 185,000 miles on it, so it is hard to say if hauling is what did it in, but I am sure it didn’t help. I did not do the research then that I am doing now so I’m sure it was being pushed past it’s capacity. One more thing is that we do like mountains, but typically try to stay mostly on interstates while we are hauling in the mountains. Thanks again for any help at all!
I’ve inherited a 1975 Scamper trailer (made by Prebuilt Industries), and am having trouble finding the key. Can anyone with a similar trailer provide a photo of what it would look like? (I have a massive bag of random keys that could very well contain it!). Any help is appreciated!
This a 2022 Sunlite travel trailer only 4 months old. All of a sudden, the batteries are not charging from the seven pin cable while towing or from the 30 amp plug-in at home. LI can put a trickle charger on it and the batteries charge up fine. They just won’t charge by these other two methods. I’m trying to avoid driving a hundred miles back to the dealer, wondering if I can troubleshoot this myself.
