Does anyone know any reputable companies/sites that sell baby shogun orandas? Adult sized ones are pretty expensive so im hoping I can get a baby one for less.
Same question as title. I have some bladder snail hitchhikers in my Betta tank that came on some plants. I was thinking of adding some snails to my goldfish tank for algae control and because I like snails. I wasn't sure if bladder snails would be safe for my fantail goldfish? My fish are about 4 inches long and their mouths are big enough to pick up something about 5-7 mm in size. They have a bit of trouble eating the goldfish formula bug bites 5-7 mm pellets. I.e. they can fit the pellet in their mouth but take a while to chew it.
I was worried that snail shells could be a choking hazard? They haven't choked on any gravel yet (knock on wood) but the snail might seem more like food to them...
hi, i’ve been a petsitter for this very nice family for about a year. they recently switched tanks for their goldfish recently and one of their fish (they have two goldfish) is extremely injured. i came by the house in the evening and noticed the fish on his side underneath the filter, i immediately turned it off because he seemed to be stuck. now he’s floating on his side near the surface. his gills are moving and he can balance himself out to swim short distances but ends up turning over again on his side again.
what i know about the situation is that they used to be in another tank (not sure how big they never told me, i assume around 20 gallons from the size) they were moved into this new tank, however owner put in new filter, new gravel, new decorations, new water. which is what im assuming caused this, or at least was a factor. they had all the old stuff in the old half full tank not washed out so i put the decorations back in to try and get more bacteria back in (i couldn’t find the old filter i think it got thrown out) Ph is 6.5 No2 is 2 ppm, Ammonia is 2 ppm (Those are the only three tests i can find so that’s all i know right now)
i’ve only ever cared for angelfish, and i usually use api melafix for any swim bladder issues. i didn’t notice the wound until after i put in my own products that i had went home to get. i put in the api melafix and also some prime seachem, and i also dosed some aquarium salt. i noticed the injuries after because after i took their dogs outside i came back in and it was swimming a little and i could see the side properly and it was an absolutely massive wound. it looks like the scales were taken off
i feel so bad it looks so painful. what more can i do to help, or is it too severe to be able to help? i’d feel very bad if this fish passed away under my care. i plan on leaving a letter for the owner and explaining what happened and also tips on how to better care for the fish. i believe it is just ignorance and if i educate them they will listen and want the best for their pets
So I’m planning on setting up a stock tank pond when I move out and I can’t find any definitive answers online so I figured I’d ask some more knowledgeable people. So I plan to hopefully set up either a 100 or 300 gallon stock tank or two and keep everything outdoors year round. I work at my LFS and have been eyeing the fancy goldfish and discovered Short Body Koi?? I’ve been trying to do some research and can only find things on Butterfly koi.
First question: How big do short body koi get? I can only find things on butterfly koi.
Second question: I live near central Michigan and during the occasional harsh winters can get down to maybe -10 Fahrenheit every once in a while at night but usually it’s just single digits and maybe 0. Would just a regular pond heater keep everyone alright? Should I just not bother setting up a stock tank?
Third question: Is it ok to keep fancy goldfish outside especially with it getting as cold as it does sometimes? I really like the black moors, fan tails, and orandas.
Fourth question: Same thing but for short body koi.
Fifth question: Could you keep short body koi and the mentioned goldfish together? Or should I set up two separate ponds and keep koi in one and goldfish in the other?
Sixth question: How many…? I glanced and saw a rule of 10 gallons per inch of fish? That doesn’t sound right though
Bonus question! Do short body koi come in any other colors besides white?? Google’s only showing me solid white ones and a slightly orange one but I feel like I remember seeing one that had more vibrant orange at work?
A friend of mine has goldfish babies outside in a pond and has noticed missing babies. She has a look outside this week and found this poor baby and a few nymphs in the pond.
Please check your ponds if you have little fish!
I’ve got 3 fancies in a 50 gallon tank with a HOB and a sponge filter. The HOB is old and on the fritz so I’m thinking about replacing it with a canister filter. Theres a sale going on nearby for Fluval canisters so I’m asking for advice on which one to get. Between the FX6, FX4, FX2, 407, 307, and 207, which one will be enough filtration while not outputting too strong of a current? Thanks!
I’ve had this fish (name is bulgy) for over 1-2 months now and he has odd coloring and is not catching up to size with others i have gotten at the same time! i’m wondering if this fish is even a goldfish! if it is a goldfish please let me know what type it is as well so i can read up more about it! Thank You!
When i got my goldfish from my sister she said 2 small pinches would be fine but i feel like im possibly overfeeding??
The 3 goldfish are fancys
Example of what i would give once a day shown above (i dont exactly count my pellets so it may be a little different every day)
Thank you all so much for your kind words ;-; it has genuinely helped me. Maybe your kind souls also reached my fish because he has been looking so much better today. He’s only laid down like twice, but he comes up for food (with such vigor I might add). He plays with the gravel again and I think he really likes the bubbly volcano thing I got him (he keeps hovering over it, letting the bubbles pop on his belly or face).
He still doesn’t eat the new brine shrimp pellets I bought or even the anubias plant, which I thought goldfish devoured. But I think it might be because he doesn’t even know he can eat them XD
If he can hold out until I get a better paying job, I would really like to get him a new tank and maybe even a new friend. At least replace the gravel and the decorations with cooler gravel and decor. Maybe have a little sand pit in the corner since goldfish like sand. Do you guys think he looks a little sick? I would like to see him not only happy but also healthy.
Thank you all again for your support. It really did help. 😊
My Goldie seems to be more active with 73ish degrees. I bought an algae eater that should be around 76ish. My filter now has small little bubbles going in the water. It only does it with the temp difference. Is this bad? Should I be concerned about it? I tried to Google the answer but nothing addresses what I'm talking about.
Hey fellas I got this aquarium and I start seeing some algae in the glass , my question is should I scrape the algae off or should I leave it? I’m about to do a water change but I don’t know if I should leave the algae there I just noticed that today
Hello everyone,
I’ve been searching the web for an answer and can’t seem to find anything about it.
I found a really great deal on a used fx4 canister in my area that I just have to buy. It’s second hand and was told that there is already beneficial bacteria already established as it’s running his system right now.
My question is. He has angel fish and would this bacteria harm my fancy goldfish in anyway?
Should I just clean the system and start process over again to be safe?
Thank you.
I wanting to know is my fish a boy or girl
1 week old Oranda Goldfish
Need tips on moving these snail eggs so my goldfish don’t eat the babies
Hi, guys. I'm really worried about my goldfish. I posted a couple days ago so I'm sorry to bother you guys.
My goldfish has been sick for about a week with lethargy and listlessness. A kind of white-ish film on his body. No super specific symptoms of the fish diseases I know of and the water tested fine in all parameters.
I dosed the tank with 1 Tb. of aquarium salt and I didn't notice any change.
Today he's laying on his side looking like he's struggling to breathe. I put him in a quarantine bucket (I don't have a spare tank), its a large bucket and I used quick start and beneficial bacteria to try and get the water okay fast. Upon looking at him from the top, he's very very skinny. He's been eating so now I'm worried he may have a parasite? He can't stay upright, and he looks like he's struggling.
I am really really worried and hope someone can give me some advice.
Thank you so much!
