Juveniles arrested for Felony Murder in April - Any updates?

Hi All! I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this/had an update on this article?
https://www.glendaleca.gov/Home/Components/News/News/8976/16

Three teenagers killed a woman in what looked like a hit and run, but it was concluded it was a homicide. Anyway, they arrested the teenagers and posted this in APRIL (hit and run homicide was in December), and I have looked EVERYWHERE for any news article regarding this - I have found nothing.
This all started because I was looking at the police transparency report and was trying to figure out what murder happened in December 2023. This also explains why the transparency report says there was no collision deaths in December/no felony hit and run fatalities: because this is technically a homicide.

Is there a reason none of this was reported/on the news? I find it unsettling that something this horrible could happen in our communities and it not be reported at all. I understand the murderers were minors, but I dont see why CBS/KTLA/FoxLA cant report on it and withhold names as they are legally required to do.

Anyway, if anyone can link an article from when this happened/when they were arrested, I would appreciate it. Also, if anyone in GPD or with knowledge on crime in the cities knows where I can find the most reliable/up to date crime reporting for the city, I would appreciate it. It looks like the city website only posts things once they've been solved - but I could be wrong.

PS
Please read the transparency reports if you have a moment. It is VERY interesting and reminds you that Glendale is TECHNICALLY safe. Just collisions and theft that seem to be the problem. If you do the math, Glendale averaged 4.5 car crashes per day. I was mostly shocked that there were only 6 car related deaths last year. You would think there would be more. I think by May 2016, there were already 3 pedestrian deaths in the city. (You might not be able to see it on a mobile device - I can only see it on a desktop/laptop)

Sewage smell coming from Starbucks on Colorado and Griswold?

Hey, all. Anyone know what's up with the sewage smell coming from the Starbucks parking lot area on Colorado and Griswold? It started up as of yesterday.

Saw a fire truck pull up to the lot while I was grabbing coffee, and saw the lot cordoned off with tape by the time I left, but the smell is still hanging around.

Power out.

Power went out at around 1:30am right before I heard a pretty loud pop about 1/2 mile away (unsure if they are related).

Anyone have any information?

Sign the Petition to Return North Brand Boulevard in Glendale Back to It's Prior Configuration

Hello Glendale Neighbors,

Against what the City has done to North Brand Blvd. between Glenoaks Blvd. and Mountain Street? Tired to sitting in unnecessary traffic on this stretch? Afraid of hitting someone or a bicyclist because of all the blind spots. Want to have this section of Brand Boulevard returned to its former configuration?

Please take a moment to SIGN the petition to Terminate the North Brand Boulevard Demonstration Project and make your voice heard to the Glendale City Council. In just over a week, the petition has 1,175 verified signatures and continues to grow daily. For those in favor of supporting this petition, we want the City Council to hear us loud and clear that we do not support this experiment and want this half-mile stretch of North Brand Boulevard returned to its previous configuration for all of the reasons listed in the petition.

CLICK HERE TO LINK TO THE PETITION:

https://chng.it/Y2BJphG9YZ

This matter will be before the City Council on Tuesday, December 10, and I encourage you to attend or call in to let your voice be heard on this matter.

Please pass along the link to the petition to your family, friends and co-workers in the Glendale area, so they may join the cause. Together we can create the changes we desire as members of this community, who are also voters!

Expired Meter $96 Fine? Ouch!

My daughter got a parking ticket for $96 for an expired meter. She did it, no arguments there.

However, I could not find a fee listing from parking to validate the fee schedule. It seems on the high end and wanted to determine if the rate was accurate.

16-Year Extension, Zero Accountability: Glendale’s Housing Neglect Exposed

I want to share how both my landlord and the City of Glendale have failed tenants like me for over a decade. This isn’t just a case of neglect—it’s a pattern of allowing illegal practices to continue unchecked, at the expense of tenant rights and safety.

1. The Illegal Fifth Unit: Why It Matters

•          My building has five units, not four as my landlord claims. This is a big deal because under Glendale’s Right to Lease Ordinance, buildings with five or more units must provide tenants with stronger legal protections, like:

•          Longer notice periods for evictions.

•          Just-cause eviction requirements.

•          Rent stabilization safeguards.

By falsely claiming the fifth unit (five mail boxes, five cable hookups, five gas meters, and five electrical meters) is “storage,” my landlord is trying to sidestep these protections and deny tenants their rights.

2. The City Has Known Since 2008

Back in 2008, my unit failed a Section 8 inspection because it didn’t meet habitability standards. The issue? A wall had been added against a "3rd bedroom" without permits to create a separate unit.

Here’s the plot twist: About a month later, it passed a re-inspection—without any permits being obtained or the illegal wall being removed. The city allowed it to stay as-is, and on every annual inspection after that, it was somehow approved. Glendale’s housing authorities knew this unit was illegal but let it slide for years.

3. How the City’s Inaction Has Hurt Tenants

By ignoring the illegal unit, the city has enabled my landlord to:

Deny tenant protections under the law. The fifth unit’s existence qualifies us for protections (illegal or not—it operated as an occupied unit for more than 15 years) but my landlord avoids them by claiming it’s “storage.”

Collect rent on an unpermitted unit. This means my landlord profited from a space that shouldn’t even existed, while tenants lived without adequate safety or rights.

Neglect proper repairs. The wall dividing the unit has never been permitted, and the city has failed to enforce its own laws and protect tenants' rights.

4. Unsafe Living Conditions Add Insult to Injury

Beyond the fifth unit, the building is plagued with other violations:

Mold: Lab reports confirmed elevated mold levels, but remediation has been delayed for months.

Rodent infestation: Contaminated insulation in the attic poses serious health risks. The city is aware but hasn’t enforced a resolution.

Structural hazards: Unsafe balconies, cracked stucco, and faulty plumbing remain unaddressed, despite being well-documented.

5. The Landlord’s Lies and the City’s Complicity

Despite knowing about the unpermitted unit since 2008, the city has failed to enforce accountability. By pressuring the landlord to remove the wall instead of obtain the necessary permits, they are denying tenants their right to one-year leases, and covering up years of negligence.

This isn’t just neglect—it’s complicity. By letting the unit pass re-inspection and every annual check since 2008, the city has essentially rubber-stamped my landlord’s illegal behavior.

6. What Tenants Deserve

The city has a responsibility to enforce its housing codes and protect tenants. Instead, it has allowed a landlord to profit from an illegal unit while tenants live in unsafe conditions without their full legal rights.

TL;DR:

Glendale has known about my building’s illegal fifth unit since 2008, when it failed a Section 8 inspection. But instead of fixing the issue, the city let it pass re-inspection without any permits or changes. Now, my landlord denies the unit exists to avoid tenant protections under the Glendale Right to Lease Ordinance, leaving tenants unprotected and living in unsafe conditions.

If you’ve dealt with something similar or know how to push for enforcement, I’d love to hear your advice. It’s time to hold both landlords and the city accountable. Tenants deserve better.

Has any one had experience with social services at Glendale Central Library?

Specifically with the geriatric Mary Leasure? She's the social services creep that walks the library to "enforce" rules but from personal experience and observations/conversations with 8 other people in the library so far, she is various kinds of abusive. She threatens to suspend you for not listening to whatever she says IMMEDIATELY, will call security on you even if you are not causing any disturbance, 2 people told me they tried ignoring her but she ripped their headphones off their head, and she takes pictures of library guests without their permission under the guise of "looking for someone".

Once she told me not to eat in the library but for some perspective I asked if it was really such a crime when there was a guy in there threatening to knife someone for sitting in "his" chair, but she ignored me and said THE FOOD RULES ARE LISTED. Wtf?

This all seems like a pattern of behavior. Why would they let someone with zero empathy work there and abuse such a pathetic power trip, especially with a community that has actual needs? Thoughts? Would love to hear if anyone has also had any positive experiences...? Thank you.

Slumlord, City, & Not-the-One

So here’s my morning: at 9 AM, at Rosedale Ave (across from the DMV), my landlord, a remediation company, and an inspector are planning to roll in and start demo work on my kitchen and shower areas.

The kicker? They haven’t provided any relocation assistance—even though the law requires it when essential living spaces like these are rendered unusable.

I’ve tried to work with them. I’ve communicated clearly, outlined my legal rights, and made it known that I’m not against the work—just against being left stranded in an uninhabitable unit. Yet here we are.

This feels like more than just a personal issue. It’s a reminder of how easily tenant rights can be ignored. Landlords know how to play games with the system, hoping people don’t have the energy or resources to fight back.

If you’re in the area, care about housing rights, or just want to witness a slumlord circus in action, feel free to stop by. I’ll be here making sure everything is documented and that they don’t bulldoze over my rights.

Let’s hold landlords accountable and remind them that the law matters.

Does anyone remember a preschool that is/was near a Days Inn?

Early 90s, I just remember the Days Inn sign! I’m not sure if either place is there anymore but I remember the preschool had two buildings and I could see the Days Inn sign when I was there. TIA 😊
