Three Picks and a Score, Week 6 - UGA vs. Auburn

If you thought watching that game was rough, try reliving it by grading out a whole bunch of picks! Yikes. That was rough. I felt like Ted Brogan without a Denver omelette.

So we had a winner. Yay, I guess. Good for u/RVAforthewin. I suppose they were somewhat prophetic in picking their name, and picking the Auburn game, since they went 3-0. Great job! I won’t recall their picks here because…well…nobody wants to talk about that game anymore.

Time to lick our wounds and come out swinging against the Barners. Is that a term? I feel like it’s a thing. I don’t know.

Kickoff is at 3:30pm, so you’ve got like 15 hours to get those scores in. Also, since I have not filled everyone in this year on how tiebreaker scores go, I count it like this. If you pick the correct team, I just add the points up and subtract the difference (Predicted Sum - Actual Sum = Total). If you pick the wrong team, then I actually add up the difference between the two scores (Team A Score Difference + Team B Score Difference = Total). Sometimes they’re the same number, but not always. That’s always been the rule, but I realize I hadn’t re-explained that this season. Kinda hate that I have to now, frankly.

Parking

My wife works at UGA and we finally got our season tickets. I’ve been to 4 UGA games in my life, but we always pre-paid for parking. We unfortunately missed out on the offer to get season parking for this year. And if you look online for prepaid parking, it’s insanely expensive. So If I wanna park at the intramural fields and the game starts at 3:30 tomorrow. What time should I arrive there to get a spot? Also I don’t mind paying $20 or $30 bucks to park as long as it’s not a super far walk or I can get on the bus. Go Dawgs!

Tickets to the game tomorrow

Due to a change in plans, I am not going to be able to attend the game tomorrow. I have my 2 season ticket seats in 331 on the aisle in the shade that I am willing to give to a Georgia fan if there is someone looking for last minute tickets.

Dan Jackson #17 appreciation thread

I have watched my recording of the Alabama game a couple of times now, and watched some replays from The Film Guy.

Can I just say that Dan Jackson is amazing. He's fast, he makes great reads, he's a sure tackler--he's the complete defensive package. He may be the perfect safety.

He had 10 tackles and a Red Zone pick against Bama.

Do yall think Ellis Robinson sees the field more goin forward

I still am I believer in both Humphrey and Everette but when your secondary is getting beat the way they were in the bama game by their Freshmen stud wideout do yall think it’ll motivate Kirby to get our own talented freshmen in Ellis Robinson more reps? Im sure he still needs to learn the playbook and isn’t as along as someone like kj bolden in that area but you can’t teach length and athleticism which Ellis has in spades. When you get to facing these explosive wr rooms I think you need an athlete like Robinson on the field. Thoughts ?!

Everybody loves some Brock Bowers but

Darnell Washington was a unicorn. We were blessed to have them both at the same time. Check out this play for the Steelers.

A guy who studies football 24/7 and has thoroughly analyzed this game felt the need to make a whole video going over the false narratives that Georgia AND Bama fans have made up.

Bama fans even made up excuses as to why we almost won, so don’t let them talk to you about excuses… Dawg fans on the other hand: he addresses the false narratives about Bobo and Carson.

Bobo: 519 yards of total offense, 34 points (could have easily been more with just a couple more plays executed) despite 4 turnovers on the road…

Look, I know it’s woulda shoulda coulda, I just like to see that there are some experts pushing back against these narratives.

I don’t mean to make excuses or to “cope” I just don’t want to see doom and gloom from Georgia fans.

Matchup Discussion Thread: #5 Georgia vs Auburn in the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry (3:30PM ABC)

Georgia looks to bounce back this weekend against Auburn between the hedges!  This will be the 129th matchup between the two teams. Georgia leads the all-time series 64-56-8. Georgia won last year’s matchup 27-20. Kirby Smart is 8-1 vs Auburn as Georgia’s head coach. Auburn hasn’t beaten Georgia in Athens since 2005.

UGA finished last season 13-1 with a dominating 63-3 victory in the Orange Bowl against Florida State. Georgia’s season 2024 summary:

  • W, 34-3 v Clemson (Atlanta)
  • W, 48-3 v Tennessee Tech
  • W, 13-12 @ Kentucky
  • L, 34-41 @ Alabama

Auburn finished last season 6-7 with a 13-31 loss in the Music City Bowl to Maryland. Auburn’s 2024 season summary:

  • W, 73-3 v Alabama A&M
  • L, 14-21 v Cal
  • W, 45-19 v New Mexico State
  • L, 14-24 v Arkansas
  • L, 21-27 @ Oklahoma

Vegas currently has the Dawgs favored by 24 points with an o/u of 54 (implied score of UGA 39 – Auburn 15). SP+ provided a projected score of 34-20 in favor of the Dawgs. ESPN FPI gives Georgia a 91.2% chance to win.

Heard this guy wanted to help at QB

His name is Stennet Betson. He’s not very tall, nor a highly touted recruit, but I think he’d be a great walk on. Photoshopped a Jersey on him for effect.

Georgia rewatch defensive takeaways

I finally mustered up the courage to rewatch the game. Here are My defensive takeaways from each position group.

Secondary: Quite simply it was a night to forget from the backend. Outside of Dan Jackson nobody played well. Malaki starks had his worst game as a bulldog. He struggled in coverage and tackling in space, Julian Humphrey, our best cover guy, absolutely struggled with finding the Ballin the air despite being in good position. What was interesting about Humphrey is he was the primary defender on Ryan Williams. Whether he lined up on the left or right side the staff clearly believed he was the best matchup athletically vs Williams . Daylen Everette had a solid pbu rep in off-coverage but otherwise also didn't have the best night in coverage as he surrendered too much cushion at times and struggled with the quickness of their wideouts. Kj did some rlly nice thinks and made a lot of good tackles in space with solid coverage too unfortunately him and Humphrey both whiffed hard on bringing down Williams after that catch he’ll learn from it

Lbs: They had a rough rough first half. They consistently got stonewalled in blitz sets and cj allen got beat on a wheel route even tho in his defense it was solid coverage. Raylen Wilson and Mondon both failed multiple times to stay disciplined in their spy assignments and let milroe go crazy with his legs. Despite that, this group made huge plays that help us get back in the game. Mondon had a big hit that helped lead to dan jackson's pick, allen made that crucial 3rd down tackle that helped us get the ball and retake the lead.

Defensive line: Tbh I felt the line played solid majority of the game. Alabama has a talented offensive line and they didn't let them push them around. They whiffed at setting the edge at times which was maddening but they got decent penetration and got some pressure on milroe at times. However, they also had opportunities to bring down milroe and failed to bring him down so finishing plays needs to get better. Ingram dawkins and Christian miller were the standouts IMO.

Overall, The defense gets a D grade. One of the worst first half performances in the Kirby Smart era. However, they also adjusted and did quite well in half 2. The talent is there but

Did any of y'all actually think we were going undefeated this season?

I know a lot of the angst here isn't about the loss, but how we lost in the 1st half, but still, calls to fire Bobo or bench Beck, Delp, or (fill in the blank with your favorite scapegoat) are crazy. We should all have had this game circled on our calendar all year long as a toss-up, a potential loss. Same goes for Texas. Tennessee and Ole Miss won't be cakewalks, either.

With this hellish schedule, I'd say 10-2 is success and almost certainly gives us a playoff berth. Y'all please keep that in mind October 19 because all our CFP goals are still ahead of us.

Do we have a QB for next Fall?

Do y'all know whether there is a "ready to start game 1" QB for next Fall (or if Beck goes down)? We seem to lack depth (or maybe the better word combo is "talent & experience") at the position.

The “Kirby can’t beat Bama” narrative is BS.

Kirby prepared us perfectly to play Alabama in 2017. Then Saban threw in Tua and they still needed a miracle in double OT. We were prepared very well in 2018, but didn’t execute down the stretch. In 2020 we were in complete rebuild mode and Alabama did the same thing to us that they did to Ohio State. 2021? Sure we got whooped, we had never played the Bryce Young offense before, but we adjusted and came back and beat them in the Championship.

This BS about Bama “owning” us last year has got to stop. We scored more than Michigan did in regulation and we would have held them to the same number of points if they hadn’t been given a “catch.”

Saturday we faced an offense that we had never seen before. Kirby said basically none of the stuff they ran was on tape. Yes we got our asses whooped in the first half, but we made some really great adjustments (due to COACHING) and we were put in a position to WIN the game. We execute one or two more plays, we WIN that game Saturday.

Other than two times our COACHES have put us in a position to WIN. A combination of flukes and poor execution has bitten us.

There is ALWAYS some flukey play against Alabama. Even last night: Milroe’s throw to Williams wasn’t even good, and he made some insane adjustment and ran around like the freak he is.

Alabama pretty much always has the best roster in the country (we are just a hair beneath them) so one or two fluke plays can result in a win.

They had two weeks to prepare for us, hell they had a whole season, they weren’t preparing for WKU or USF or Wisconsin.

Before you come at me, let me just say I am just as PISSED OFF as anyone that Alabama keeps winning. I wanted to put my head through a wall on Saturday. That being said, we have the best coach in the country…
