Hey! I posted recently about apartments. Anyone know if oak tree apartments are any good? Thank you!
Moving to georgetown soon and looking at some affordable apartments in or around the city. Anyone have any recommendations? Preferably within 20-30 min of the city if not in it. Thanks for any help!
Hey y'all - I'm not really clear on this referendum, why I would vote in favor or oppose. In general, I'm opposed to sales tax (favoring instead property, inheritance or progressive income taxes), because it effectively taxes people in inverse proportion to their wealth, such that the poorest are hit hardest by sales taxes.
Interested in moving to Georgetown within the next year. My mom lives in Murrells Inlet which is nice but after living in Indianapolis the last 15 years, I'm ready for a slower pace. I love the homes in the historic district (most likely out of my price range) but have also looked around Maryville and Wedgefield Plantation and like both areas. Anyone living in or familiar with those areas I'd love to know what you think of them from a local's perspective. I also know Georgetown is prone to flooding and curious how bad those areas actually are.
Hello everyone, my name is Joaquín Gelmini, and I want to share with you the flight I made over Georgetown. I'm a virtual explorer, haha! From video 609 to the last one (i´m still flying over SC) in my playlist, I’m flying across the United States, specifically over South Carolina. If you're interested, feel free to check it out. I hope you enjoy it!
Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
On August 29, 2004, Airman 1st Class Carl L. Anderson Jr. was killed by a roadside bomb on Sunday near the northern city of Mosul. He was assigned to the 3rd Logistics Readiness Squadron based at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska.
Anderson entered the Air Force after graduating from Georgetown High School in 2001, said his cousin Mickey Smith, who works as a school bus driver.
Anderson was voted “most popular” in his senior class, Cafaro said.
Smith remembered his cousin as a kindhearted person who had many friends and was involved in a number of activities in high school, including ROTC.
He also was “prom prince” his junior year, and “always had a smile on his face,” Smith said.
Anderson enjoyed serving in the Air Force because it allowed him to visit new places. He liked Alaska, although it was “very cold,” his cousin said.
Anderson was survived by his parents, Doris and Carl Anderson Sr., and two sisters.

I've lived and surfed in Charleston for 15 years...spent some time in California. I just moved to Murrells Inlet, SC, and the surf around doesn't seem to be amazing. I know you can make due though. I do have a question if anyone has ever surfed those beaches. They seemed to be some of the most exposed beaches on the South Carolina coast. I feel like they'd have waves. Anyway. Just wondering if anyone has ever seen waves while fishing or surfed it. Thank you!
A friend and I went there on Sunday afternoon just to check it out, drink our coffee and a scone.
I parked in the middle, near the path entrance to the small sheltered picnic area by the water. To the furthest left and back a bit, there was an old Astrovan with some 40-50 y/o guy sitting there. Directly to left was a Maxima with 3 18-25 y/o. To the right there was a large beaded guy sitting there in a Ram. To the right was a Sentra with a couple women in the 18-25, range. Directly to the right when you first pull into the lot there was another guy in an old Buick who seemed to taking notes on people coming and going. The picnic table area was completely vacant. After 10 minutes or so we walk back. One of the women, got out and walked back alone which seemed odd.
Is this a parking lot where it is common for people to park and sit in their cars, or somewhere I should perhaps avoid? Things felt off, but I don’t know if we were both over analyzing things.
My husband and I are looking to move to the area and don’t want to buy a home just yet. Where can we find reasonably priced rental houses (under $2k/mo) within 30-45 min of town?
This may sound like a strange question, but where can I find a pub to sing sea shanties in? Most of my friends were never into the sea shanty trend on TikTok a few years ago, but I yearn to find drinking buddies to drunkenly sing Barrett's Privateers and other sea shanties with.
I am in my 30s, but I don't mind drunkenly singing Stan Rogers songs with other age groups.
Hello, I'm sure many of you have heard about the case of the young 19th century John Doe found in your area. In case you haven't, we're interested in speaking with people whose families have been in Georgetown for a century or more. Following Hurricane Irma in 2017, the skeletal remains of a young fisherman were discovered near the site of ongoing archaeological research in Georgetown County, South Carolina. He is thought to have died between 1880 and 1930.
If you have ancestral ties to Georgetown and wish to volunteer a DNA sample or share a previously taken DNA test result, please visit our South Island John Doe page.
I’ll be on a work trip in your town next month. Arrive in Georgetown on 3/6/23.
I am trying to go out on a boat. I have money and/or really good weed. I’d like to meet some locals and hear any stories. #yolo
Damn this sub is dead. No one wants to post any videos of Tic dancing or something? If anyone actually see this post I'll be surprised for sure.
Anyone know anywhere for rent or anyone who wants to rent out a room in one of these big homes? I am exhausted and worn down from searching and I can't go on like this much longer
Hello Georgetown, my family & I will be visiting there later this summer, & I’d welcome some recommendations from locals. Best restaurants & carryout to try (or ones to avoid), museums & historic sites, beaches or parks to drive to, etc. I was sorry to see Big Bill's Lowcountry Barbeque closed; reviews sounded great.
Also, are places pretty much completely maskless inside & out by now?
Thanks for any info you can offer.
Hey visiting some family down in Georgetown any recommendations on things to do?
