Download GeekTool from the Tynsoe Projects Website.
We have our own community based reciprocity full of images and scripts of user generated Geeklets, check that out here: r/Geektool Geeklet Reciprocity
There is also a repository for various GeekTool scripts here: Geeklets

Don't wanna have to copy/paste geeklets whenever making a new desktop. Only way I've found so far is opening the GeekTool app will shift the geeklet to the current desktop, but that's clunky af.
Any ideas?
I have a problem. None of downloaded daemon tools won't work.
Every time computer starts up, I'm presented with these windows, which I have to "X" out of in order to get everything correct. Does this happen to everybody?
Unchecking "startup at login" isn't a solution because then it just won't show up at all. Is there a way to get it to just load normally?
Thanks!
I’ve been using GeekTool for years now. Mostly I use it in conjunction with todo.txt to keep an organized list of pending tasks on my desktop. Recently I upgraded to an M2 Mini with Ventura and it’s mostly working fine under Rosetta.
But I run two displays, and it randomly moves back and forth between displays every time my screen saver kicks in. This has started frustrating me enough to search for alternatives.
I’m running a simple bash script to invoke multiple todo calls about every 15 seconds, and so far no actively developed solutions that I’ve seen include this functionality.
Hologram is great for wallpapers and widgets but I’m not looking to code up a widget for a half a dozen lines of shell code. Ubersicht hadn’t been updated in a while, and I had never used it so that doesn’t seem viable.
And eventually Rosetta is presumably going away in a couple of years the same way it did after the PowerPC to Intel switch.
Does anyone have any solutions to either fixing the multiple monitor problem, or alternatives that can run shell scripts?
Dark Sky’s features have been integrated into Apple Weather. Support for the Dark Sky API ended on March 31, 2023. So, the weather geeklet (using forecast.io) just stop working.
Apple says that developers can use WeatherKit on any platform with a REST API. https://developer.apple.com/weatherkit/get-started/
I hope this could be used to get back this beautiful geeklet back to life.
[Edit: SOLVED BY REBOOTING]
I'm on Catalina, I just downloaded the last version of Geektool. The option "Keep on top" inside the properties of the Geeklet is ticked. I can see the Geeklet above everything only in the first desktop. I want to display this Geeklet above every desktop and fullscreen app. I remember using Geektool many year ago (on Lion) and never having this issue, so I suspect I'm doing something wrong, any help?
I can't seem to find the Quartz Composer geektool plugin anywhere on the internet. I used to use it for music visualisation in my hackintosh years ago but since I got a new mac, it seems to have been gone from the official link. Can some one please upload the plugin for me? Thanks in advance! :)
Hi all :)
Wondering if anyone has figured out how to get the Geektools preference window to stop opening at every startup (on a mac)? It's not under System Prefs > login items…
I want the geeklets themselves to run, just not the prefs window.
Thanks!
Just downloaded this thing so I'm still learning but long story short I'm simply trying to create an indicator that will activate/deactivate when I have certain filters on in a different program.
so just trying to make a macro, which would in theory include geektools something like:
Press 'xyz' key: an overlay pops up (some picture or text)
press 'xyz' again, it goes away
been trying to figure this out for months on better touch tool with no luck... Seems like geek tools might be more appropriate...any suggestions?
ya boy would sure be grateful - thanks in advance
I work in a MSP that deploys hundreds of Mac's on site, and we require our security team to validate Serial Number before allowing a device in or out of our site.
Would I be able to have this program display the Serial Number, and Name of the machine through a shell script?
Secondly, would I be able to generate a barcode of the Serial Number on screen?
Thanks for any help
Hi guys !
I'm looking for a good soul out there to suggest a list of web api calls for Geektool.
For a little more context, we can use the Web geeklets and feed it a URL. Which is effing great ! But soon, the Dark Sky API is gonna close down and I started thinking, there must be alternatives out there (probably... maybe... ?). In the meantime, I started on working with python scripts and trying to work out the same thing.
But it made me think about other stuff that could be done. And of course, what else could be out there, maybe already curated by the community and that would do wonderful stuff, too (but to be frank, I haven't found anything, really).
Basically, what I'm asking is, maybe someone already has a list of url returning great HTML output for geektool. Could someone help me out on this one ?
best regards to you all !
Where is a good place to find wallpapers???
i'm following this very old tutorial (was made for Snow Lion) but writing the Script doesn't seem to work, either i'm very new to coding or the script doesn't work anymore. Is there a way of making the geeklet?
Hey everyone, I was trying to get the "Anurati Regular" font, although when I did it on Geektool, it only came as the first letter. Does anyone know how to fix this
Hello! I was just wondering how to make your widgets with Geektool adaptive to your background, for example, I want to keep my time behind the mountains, how do I do that?
2017 13" Macbook Pro running MacOS Monterey v12.4
Geektool v3.3.1 (14)
I've been a Geektool user for years. I am currently running two Geeklets on my laptop desktop (I have 3 screens including the laptop screen). The existing Geeklets run fine.
My problem: I can no longer edit my existing Geeklets or create new ones. The account I'm logged into on my Macbook Pro is an admin account. Am I missing something? I will say this seems to have happened slowly over time. I remember a point where it became difficult to edit an individual Geeklet's settings. I remember having to, at one point, drag a blank Geeklet to the desktop and then I could edit my existing ones but that is no longer possible. I can neither edit existing nor create new Geeklets.
Hi, I am new to the community and want to download Geektool app for my mac, but the website seems missing from the internet. Where do you guys install app or updates?
Python 3 scripts are working well. Python2.7 scripts are not working. Time to convert the Python 2.7 scripts...
What are other's experiences with 12.3?
So I'm pretty new, and I use the automatic appearance setting (during day it's light mode, and during night it's dark mode). I have a dynamic wallpaper and I was wondering if there is a way to change between two groups, one for light mode and one for dark mode. Both groups are the same, just the colors have been changed on them.
