gayrural is a non judgmental group for all country lifestyle LGBTQ2+ people who live outside cities in rural and small town communities. A place to come together to meet like-minded folks or discuss issues related to being gay in a rural setting. Whether you farm, hunt, fish, raise livestock, ride horses, homestead or are a cowboy/girl, farmer, country music lover, gardener, rodeo fan, off-grid prepper, cottagecore, rancher, or just anyone with an interest in them or living off the land.

Hey y’all! I’m a bit of a lurker in this community but figured after not finding what I’m looking for I’d ask out. I am deeply interested in queer history especially around the western/cowboy cultures. I know there’s a few trans cowboys in history but I want to learn more. Any suggestions?
I have a house on 17 acres in the southern tier of New York State. It's beautiful out here but there isn't much for community. There is, however, cities relatively close by. Erie PA is an hour, Buffalo NY is 1.5 hours and Pittsburgh, PA is 2.75 hours.
I have been thinking of ways to start a collective or use the land in a way that queers can access it and benefit from it. My land is on a triangle with two sides having road access/ access to electric. One side is a huge pasture which buildings could be constructed on or could be used to grow things.
Does anyone have any knowledge or ideas of how to start something really beautiful like this or any ideas in general of how I can start even thinking of ways to pull something like this off?
Given the recent election results, where a literal fascist is now in the oval office, many of us are scared for the future, if not frightened for our very lives. However, there can be a solution, even as we are facing down the barrel of another four years of Trump and his cronies. We are a mutual aid group, seeking to establish regional groups across all fifty states. We learn from one another, produce our own resources, and share with one another. Our goal is to establish a support network, separate from the current government systems. Send me a private message if you are interested.
I know this ain't a dating sub, but I'm trying to find advice anywhere I can. The few responses I get are avoidant, never answering my question.
I'm a straight forward guy and dont like wasting each other's time. I know sex isn't everything but I believe it's a healthy part of a relationship, and i dont like reaching the point if intimacy only to realize there is no chemistry there. I'm a pretty vanilla bottom (strictly) looking for a vanilla top. My questions are how and when do you ask the question of compatability without giving the impression that you are only looking for a hook up?
Good time to be in Vegas with all the gay cowboys 🤠🤠
Friends all have kids and partner doesn’t like the outdoors. Need friends to get out and enjoy the outdoors with. Anyone in Ontario looking for a camping friend?
I live in the North Country of NY right now and there are a lot of Amish providing contractor services and obviously, furniture makers. I'd love to hire them at some point for custom work but I'm not sure how they would react/treat my wife and I. Once introductions are made, and it's clear she's my wife and not my sister...
Just wondering if anyone else has had any experience fostering relationships with the Amish community as an out LGBTQ person.
Hi ya'll,
I am a 27 year old filmmaker currently developing a thesis film at Montana State University on gay men in the rural West.
I'm hoping to find subjects who are ideally ranchers, cowboys, or farmers, but anyone with a strong connection to the land would work great for this project.
If you are in Montana, Idaho, Utah, or Wyoming, this would be ideal! Please comment or message me directly if you are interested in participating. I will ask you a few initial questions and record your written responses. You can remain anonymous if you wish. Thanks so much, & happy new year!

The last couple years we've had this tradition here of adding what State/Province or Country you are from.. It's great to see the geographic diversity in our annual post.
Trying this post here. It's also posted on in the "Moving to Hudson Valley" community.
My wife and I are currently stationed at Fort Drum, NY and would like to stay in the state. While I've come across a few helpful posts about a year or two old, I'm putting this out here again for an update.
We're honestly looking EVERYWHERE in the state, but would prefer to be within a more liberal county. My wife travels for work, so it needs to be within an hour of a decent airport. I'll be working from home.
Here's where it gets more difficult:
Would like at least an acre of land. This is a hard must. We're not used to big cities, traffic or packed neighborhoods anymore. Prior to the Army, we lived in several big cities. Not going back to that.
Would love a small town feel, artsy vibe (we both have art backgrounds), LGBTQ welcoming, diverse community (both Hispanic). All that said, we're homebodies. The option would be nice though.
Budget would be nice to be around $425-450K, but could go up to $550k. At this price point, it seems more challenging to get anything in HRV. We're looking outside of Syracuse too. Suburbs outside Rochester are nice, but too populated.
Thoughts?
