Making friends at 40 🤦🏻‍♀️

I moved to Fort Wayne a few years back and having the hardest time finding people that are into similar likes! What I look like, doesn't necessarily attract the people I want to hang with in my free time 😂 I am 🍃and 🍻 friendly. I work a lot but have zero kids. I like to do all different things. But finding friends is a task!

Looking for a mechanic!

Date Night help!

My Husband and I when we can afford it try to go on dates. What is a great place to go to during the fall for a romantic date in Fort Wayne or the surrounding areas?

This weekend money is no issue (10-05).

Thanks for the help!

Do any studios in Fort Wayne offer adult gymnastics classes?

I've been getting into ring gymnastics and want to learn more complex things like handsprings, pommel horse, etc. I've been searching for months but...

Problem is I'm an adult guy, and I'm only finding children's studios/classes. I've emailed some places that offer a "16+" class but nobody has answered me back and I'm wary of the optics of pushing too hard to join while being a dude in his 30s, y'know?

Is there anybody in Fort Wayne that specifically gives classes/lessons to grown-ups? If not gymnastics, maybe a breaking class or something similar? I'm lowkey desperate for a reason to get outside other than LARPing and food.

Extremely general question about growing up in Fort Wayne (I'm a writer)

EDIT: Book is set in 2005. Extremely reasonable question, sorry I did not include that originally. Anything aughts-era or around there would be relevant though. Also this is all AMAZING. Thank you guys so much!!!

EDIT 2: Again, thank y'all so so much for this. Just fills in so many little details about the character's backstory. Would still love some more info on where peoples' parents worked. Really appreciate the note about International Harvester. The main character's mother is in sales, so I'm looking for anybody that might employ salespeople. (I'm talking about wholesale rather than retail level.)

Hey hey, so I'm writing a book where the main character is from Fort Wayne. I've lived in the area for the past four years - been coming here for seven years - but I don't really have a sense of what it was like to grow up here.

A few questions off the top of my head:

  1. I know the names of the big high schools - Carroll, Homestead, etc. - but I'd love to know more about what the relationship between the schools was. (What were the rich kid schools, what were the prestigious schools vs. the ones considered, well, not.)
  2. What did kids do for fun?
  3. What sports were most popular?
  4. What were the alternative cultures like (music scene, art scene, nerd/gaming scene, etc.)?
  5. Did people like growing up here? Or was it considered a place you wanted to get out of? (To be clear, I love Fort Wayne.)
  6. What did peoples' parents do for a living? I know that Sweetwater, Parkview, and Lutheran are big employers, but what about the lawyers/accountants/insurance agents?

Thank you in advance!

Thoughts on the ACPL Facilities Master Plan?

This plan includes major improvements at all locations, with Phase 1 focusing on facilities that need urgent updates. Here’s how the plan will benefit you and your community:

► More family and youth spaces

► Additional STEM spaces
► Improved handicap accessibility
► Expanded access in high-growth and high-need areas
► Increased support for small businesses and economic development

From the petition:

We are signing this petition to show support for the ACPL Facilities Master Plan (FMP) - Phase 1. We understand the project will be paid by a combination of library reserves (up to $26,000,000) and bonds (in a principal amount not to exceed $37,000,000) and that the repayment of the bonds will be from property taxes*. For the owner of a home with an assessed value of $150,000 this would be approximately $10.94 in additional taxes per year

Our community needs and deserves modern library facilities that promote lifelong learning and discovery. We strongly urge approval of these bonds and related matters because it is critical to the continued success of the Allen County community.

*The tax increase ($0.0165 per $100 of assessed home value) will be subject to the existing tax cap meaning no taxpayer will pay more than 1% of their home's value in total property taxes.

It's dark in here...

Stupid power went out, and I'm just complaining about it. It's so odd, my neighbors across the street have power, but my side is out. I haven't a clue about how power transmission works, but yeah... major inconvenience. The only good thing is that it went out just before I got into the shower, and not during it. Anyone else in the dark tonight?

Edit: of course, halfway through a flashlight illuminated shower, the power returns! Yay!

Anyone donate plasma?

Hey y'all. So I'm thinking about starting to donate plasma. To my knowledge, the only two places in town are CSL and BioLife. Looking online, I see conflicting reports over which one pays more. I'm assuming it depends heavily on geographical location. CSL might pay more in one city and BioLife might pay more on another city. So I'm wondering what I could expect here in Fort Wayne, both as a new donor, and eventually as a repeat donor. If anyone who sees this knows - or knows someone who knows - I would definitely appreciate the info so I can make as informed of a decision as I can. Thanks!

Cousin’s Maine Lobster

For those thinking about heading out to the lobster food truck tonight you may want to rethink. I just stopped by and the wait is 2+ hours long. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think food truck lobster is worth a two hour wait.

Furniture for apartment?

I am looking for any resources to find furniture for someone I know. They are on limited funds, and this is the first time they have lived on their own so they have nothing should they move into an apartment. They also have a child (school aged) and a dog (small to medium sized). Thank you.

Cousins Maine Lobster Truck

I can understand the hype of wanting to try a food truck that was featured on Shark Tank. However, keep this on mind when you want to spend $32 on a lobster roll today. It’s the size of a hot dog.

Wedding ceremony/reception places

My fiancé and I have been engaged for 3yrs now (we wanted to have a long engagement) We plan to get married in the fall. We are looking at having a smaller wedding and now are looking into where to have the wedding & reception. We both want to have it outside like a park. So my question is has anyone had or been to a wedding like this in ft Wayne? Also how much roughly?

We prefer not to spend thousands of dollars as we have three children and would like to save the excess amount of money towards a honeymoon or the purchase of a new home. 🥰 Thank you in advance!

No Halloween Lights In Seven Oaks?

My son and I were up on the North side of town at nightfall and I thought I would take him over to the Seven Oaks development off DuPont to see the Halloween display the guy on Sweet Cider Rd does. It was always one of his favorites. We come around the corner and no display? Anyone know why he didn’t do it this year?

Maybe this google-able, but y’all always come through with the best recommendations. I need cornbread.

So tomorrow I’m making a big ol’ pot of ham and beans and I need cornbread. Like, good good cornbread. The problem- my oven is out and the new one isn’t coming until next week.

Where can I get good already made cornbread?

Dance classes for 6 year old boy?

My son has always loved dancing and is always pretending to break dance. He's also obsessed with all the shuffle dance videos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eLGGII5rrM).

I know zero about dance so I need some help - anybody know who can help him refine his craft?

adhd help

are there ANY good places to find help with getting diagnosed and medicated around fort wayne? i’ve looked at multiple different places from multiple different comment sections and genuinely all of them have a fair amount of horrible reviews.

ideally i would love a younger, non-religious, trans-affirming office that i would feel comfortable in but tell me if i’m looking for a unicorn.
