I don't typically share much, but I thought this would be an interesting read for many of you and a solid counter-argument for those who say video games won't get you anywhere—lol. I often hear coaches crediting Football Manager for sparking their interest in the game, but I think my experience offers a different yet impactful perspective.
Like many of us here in the Football Manager community, I've always been an avid Football Manager player, having the goals of leading a non-league club to glory or winning the league with your local club, which has not won a single trophy for way too long.
Beyond football manager, I've always been obsessed with football, since the age of 5, and pretty early into high school, I made up my mind that if I were to pursue a career, it'd be in football. WWhile coaching caught my interest, I was drawn to the world of agents, especially during a time when they were raking in millions. I thought, "How hard could it be?"
So, the summer after graduating high school in 2022, I got serious about becoming an agent and began my research. Later that year, FIFA announced they were reinstating their agent licensing system, which required aspiring agents to pass an exam. I dedicated myself to preparing for the exam in April the following year, but the brutal part was the pass rate was under 50%, and the questions were challenging. One question in particular stood out, related to Third-Party Regulations:
"Can a player receive a percentage of the transfer fee if they move to a new club?"
Now to someone who might've not played football manager, this might've come across as something new and perhaps challenging ( at least from my POV). But of course, I spent countless hours negotiating over-ambitious transfers with a bunch of players who clearly were too good for my club. And an experience we've all dealt with, each player asks for like 15-20% in sell-on fee of the transfer fee, if they leave the club.
I remember thinking, "Maybe all those hours spent playing Football Manager paid off." I needed 15 out of 20 questions right, and while I didn’t know how many I might have gotten wrong, answering this one correctly was crucial. Thankfully, Football Manager came through for me, and I’m grateful to the developers for making the game so realistic and professional.
A week later, I got an email from FIFA informing me that I passed the agent exam on my first try, making me one of the youngest FIFA-licensed agents at just 18. I've made some great progress so far both in the men's and women's game, and hope to go a long way into the world of football (maybe in the game at some point!!!!)
While my story with Football Manager might not be as thrilling as that of Will Still or Antoine Griezmann, I owe a huge thank you to the fantastic developers and the amazing community that introduced me to this game. 💜
If anyone wants to see the question, I've attached a question that's very similar to what I got on the exam back in April 2023. Click this. I apologize in advance if I tweaked the regular feed of this community. Thanks for the read guys!
i lost to Real Madrid while leading 2 and they comeback and scored 4 in Camp Nou. Is this game scripted or im doing it wrong
Just did a three-peat in my 7 years of management
Ask me anything
Mine is a little weird, I just play football manager while I listen to old FIFA and PES soundtracks, it’s just such a throwback and fits the football theme perfectly. Also I like to play while watching old champions league matches but that’s a little distracting.
As the title says, I somehow Leicestered my way into the 23/24 title at Fiorentina, and I'm not sure what to do now. Here is my tactic and player stats.
I'd wanted to play a 4222 ever since RB Leipzig destroyed me with one in an old save. In my variant, the AP stays more central, while the AM plays wider to try and play in the channels and find more space, with the majority of the width coming from the fullbacks. The only other real tweak is I have the CBs on dribble more to help them beat the press. Sometimes it leads to annoying scenarios, usually after corners where they won't pass the ball to a creative player fast enough but I never had issues with them being caught on the ball. We also scored heaps from corners, taking them all short as I don't really have anyone in the squad who's any good in the air.
I'm not really sure how I managed to win the league given the quality of some of my players, perhaps the tactic I've made just breaks the match engine in some way lol. However, now that I have to play in the Champions League (my board want me to make the knockouts) I'm a bit concerned as I've never had to manage a team that's had to make such a big jump before.
Am I better off trying to maintain the quality of the starting 11 by buying players that are only 3-3.5 stars with perhaps limited potential, or is it better to take a downgrade in current quality and move towards young players with room to grow, and trust the quality of my tactic (which I think is the only reason I've made it this far).
One issue I'm having is that players' wage demands seem to have exploded since my title win, I've gone from players wanting 30-50k PW to wanting 80-100k, which makes them tricky to afford despite the fact that I have a decent amount of money in the bank.
This is a long post, apologies, but if anyone has read this far and has any advice on how I should look to move forward it's much appreciated!
So, I love customising my training schedules and at the start of almost every save, and at the start of almost every save I am figuring out my tactics and playstyle so I don't mind a hand-on approach to training all the way through. But this becomes boring once I have figured out the schedules I wanna use. So is there a way to have the assistant pick training from the schedules you made? Doesn't have to be in-game, I don't find tinkering with files if that's what it takes
Okay so I’m still very new to this, and I made a promise to the most influential players at the start that I’d “develop youth players in defensive midfield”. I set the under 20s midfielders training to focus more on defense, but there hasn’t seemed to be much of a change and I’m about midway through the season. Is there something I’m missing? Or should I just give it more time?
Retro database, recently took over Spurs after them sacking their manager. About to go into first game and assistant manager has fallen asleep, any recommendations for a replacement?
33yr old Cb lightning it up
So i bought an 18 yo regen last year to replace my first choice cm. When i bought him he was 2.5 stars with 5 Star potential. After a year of playing him 43 gamea nothing has changed his star rating is still 2.5 and his potential hasn't gone down its still 5 starts. Is there anything i can do to help him get better?(i play on console)
hello everyone, I am new to the group !! I just started playing FM the pc version. I played the mobile version previously and the console as well. anyway I am doing a save for Chivas de Guadalajara. A mexican team who's has a self-imposed tradition of only signing Mexican born players. I would love to get any tips of players that worked for you guys or any experience you guys had with liga mx.
Title. And if you can, will it stay that amount or will the club offer a new (presumably higher) amount when your contract ends?
I’m thinking of getting the editor just to offset a bug that occurs with lower league saves, where you start on £0 a week with an amateur club. Once the club progresses to semi-pro, or even professional, they won’t offer you a wage whatsoever. I’d ideally use the editor just once to get, say, £20 a week once we term semi-pro, and for the club to then start actually offering me a wage in subsequent negotiations.
My GOAT
Is it possible to loan out a player immediately after signing them? There's a young player that I can sign on a free transfer, he's pretty good but I'm not sure if he's exactly first team level good. So I'm wondering if I could sign him, loan him out and then sell him for some good money, considering he's free.
And if he's just stuck in the club not playing games, I assume he would regress and lose all his value, right?
I'm new to the game and the sub, so sorry if this is a common question.
Is i
So I've been playing FM on and off for 5 years or so. I've tried a couple of saves in england here and there, but I've never tried to take on the challenge of taking a 6th tier side to the premier league. Long story short, somehow after only 6 seasons, I have managed to reach the premier league with Borehamwood.
As im sure anyone else who's taken on this challenge has experienced, the financial side of trying to complete this challenge can be pretty tricky. Often times your reputation lags behind the reputation of everyone else in the division once you reach league one/two, and it can be hard to generate revenue besides selling players. In my only season in the championship, my reputation was by far the worst in the league, and lower than 6 teams in league 1. My wage budget was also by far the lowest in the league at £5.5m a year (around £140k a week), and even with a wage budget this low we were making a loss of around £750k each month during the season.
Therefore my question is this: how am i going to survive in the premier league?🤣
As soon as we got promoted, the club had a takeover, so that has helped increase the amount of money I have to play with a bit. My wage budget is still going to be, at best, about half as much as the next lowest team. The thing that i think that is probably a bigger problem, however, is the tiny reputation. I know I'm really going to struggle to sign players that are of premier league standard, and most of the players currently in the squad probably wont cut it (was predicted 21st to 24th in the season preview throughout the season).
Does anyone have any advice on how would you go about building a squad, and what kind of tactic will give the best chance of survival? Any suggestions would be much appreciated 😅
Hi everyone, I've just started seriously trying to play FM, and after about 20 hours of game and half a season, I end up being last (or just 3 points ahead to being last), and I've tried everything but I can't seem to make any difference at all.
The things I noticed especially is how we easily conceed compared to the opponents' xG (we can easily go down 0-2 or 0-3 in the first half with the other team only getting 0.5 to 1 xG) and especially in very early, and very late part of the game. It also seems that despite getting possession, I never have domination over the game, and when actually creating chances almost never scoring them (even with 1 or 1.5xG I usually end up not scoring once). I wonder what I am doing wrong here and if anyone has an idea ?
Here is the tactic I used for most matches
Personally I’ve never seen them make a massive impact do they even have any affect ?
If so when do you use them ?
