Hello, I was laid off in March and my husband also was laid off last year .I was not aware of my eligibility for EBT and didn't need help up until now, since my unemployment benefits ran out recently. I applied for EBT for me , my husband and 2 kids .My husband does gigs, and his income is not stable, he had compensation when he was laid off which we saved and use it for mortgage, which is 4500. In the interview, the case worker was very iffy about my husband's income and earnings and our ability to pay the mortgage . Do I just remove my husband' name in the ebt to qualify? Because any amount will really help us currently. Thanks
Lost my job, applied for food stamps in MA and recieved almost $300 a month. I recently got a job where the weekly pay would disqualify me. The card continues to be loaded with money every month. What's the penalty if I continue to use the card...
I submitted an appeal almost a month ago on October 11th. It's in my account saying it was submitted on October 11th. However, I have gotten no updates since then. It's already been almost a month. Does anyone know how long this will take???
I'm in Tennessee.
My stamps renew on the 9th of every month nothing with my income or anything has changed in the past 6 months but now all of a sudden my stamps have gone from getting 170$ to getting 22$ is this some kinda joke? What am I supposed to do with 22$ for a whole month :/
Single 41yo Female, Single Mother. One 14yo in home. 530 in child support/ month and a full time job at time of application In July of this year I had a heart surgery and was off work for some time. I applied for Foodstamps as I was struggling to make it with the limited income while I was off work. I calculated my income plus the child support i was “supposed” to be getting and i was under the income limit for the time frame I was applying in. I was denied for being over income, i appealed and it’s now been set for a hearing. My situation has changed, I was just laid off work. Unfortunately, since heart surgery I’ve been diagnosed with a rare disease which has in combination with my heart issues taken me to be off work intermittently for appts/test and procedures. I was laid off on Thursday due to “cut backs” but we all know if you have to chose between an employee who has lots of off time and an employee who doesn’t which one will be kept. So, Questions. -How will this affect my case? -Should i attempt to get legal counsel through legal services? -It’s a possibility i will be apply for disability until my medical situation improves, but it’s likely my medical state it will decline. Does any of this affect the case. That i won’t be immediately able to look for employment -I haven’t yet but i will be apply for unemployment (not sure if I’ll get it since i won’t be looking for employment until i get past these medical appts), again will this affect it?
I’m pretty overwhelmed and have no idea what to do from here, continue with the appeal or drop it and file again? Thoughts, advice welcomed! TIA
I always get my payout on the 8th and today I went to go use them and there’s nothing on my card and online it says no benefits are pending. I have not received any information in the mail about any changes and I’m permanently disabled and am not required to recertify them anymore like I used to every few months. Does anyone know what’s going on?
I live in WV and I just did my review. Everything went great. The only thing I am having problems with is the landlord letter that is required. He is not cooperating. Heck, I don't even have an updated phone number for the man. When I call it goes, "we cannot complete your call." I have proof of income and can turn them in. Do you all thing a copy of the lease will do? Not sure what to do. Any advice? Thank you.
Hello everyone I was late renewing my yearly recertification of my food stamps last month as I never received my letter stating I was due to renew so I was just expecting to receive them on the 7th as normal. But when I called to check the card on the morning of the 7th our stamps had not come in. So I immediately called that day to renew. I sat on the phone all day they said that everything had been completed and that I would be recieving my stamps the next morning however the agent never hit complete nor did she have me do the thing where they record my name agreeing that all of my information is correct etc. So I called again the next day and had to do that but somehow I kept having issues finally on the 15th I got an agent who I thought finally had gotten everything fixed for me she ended the call saying I should have my funds in the morning of 364.00 for a prorated amount and that my monthly amount would be 720.00 a month. I asked her again so tomorrow I'll be getting 364 and then I'll be 720 everything month there after? She said yes that's correct and we ended our call so I was expecting to wake up the next morning the 16rh of October with 364.00 on my food stamps card. However I woke up with a deposit of 364.00 and one for 720.00. I was never told by the agent that I would get a payment for the 720 the next day I was literally told 364 for the rest of October and that my next amount would be 720 for November which I should have received on the 7th but I haven't gotten it. So why have I not gotten my November deposit. ??? I was expecting that I would have it for Thanksgiving because that's what the agent told me. If I would known that my payment would not be deposited on the 7th I would not have spent the money for October. I used it for filling up the house and then I also used to make food for my fiancees fathers funeral wake. I really need the payment t I should always get on the 7th because thanksgiving is coming up and I have 3 kids at home what do I do. I am confused and lost right now. Thanks everyone
So I have had food stamp assistance for about 4 months, and we’re going to renew on the 15th, I lost my job back in July and been a gig worker since, how do I show them that what I make isn’t guaranteed? Like one month I can make 5k but then the next month I can make 2500? Will I be cut off? Not a big deal if I am just getting prepared for the worst especially with the holidays coming in, I got a job at Amazon starting at the end of the month but was hopping to have the extra help for the month, also if they do cut off the food stamps, do they take back what was not used or leave it and I just won’t get anymore? And please understand that when I make good money I had to fix my toilet, my water heater, tires for both my vehicles and pay my housing tax, so I was working 80 to 90 hours a week to make that money
Hello,
So last month I posted because I forgot to report my income change by the 10th of the month, but I did report it online on the 11th of October. I still received a payment for November, and I haven't gotten any communication from SNAP at all. I'm in NY and considered a simplified reporter, where I only need to report a change in income if it goes over 130% of FPL. My income is earned, and went up to an average of $3820/mo for a family of 4. I checked my case through the MyBenefits sit and it still lists my previous income and benefit amount.
I'm not sure if I possibly still qualify, or if they're just behind on processing changes. I figured if I did still qualify, then my benefits would have at least been reduced. Maybe that wouldn't happen until my recertification period though? I expected at least some sort of communication one way or another. Should I submit the change again online, it shows my prior one as submitted still.
I have no idea if I'm able to use these deposits still or not? I don't want to get in trouble.
I hate to say this but I feel like my caseworker is racial profiling me thus shes giving me a hard time! We got approved with food stamps and calaid last june. Come october we are required to do sar7. Case worker said I need to submit more since I had my MIL co petition me. My husband is a US cit but is trying to find work on his profession but before that he has a series of board exam to pass. Then I got pregnant during the petition. gave birth and accidentally got pregnant again on my 5th month postpartum. Approval came 3 months after I gave birth. I didnt apply for aid during my first born cos we were still ok. But when the 2one was born clearly we needed help with the milk and the food. Last june we got approved both with cal aid and cal works also welfare to work too. The case worker argued that the petitioner is financially responsible of me. What about my 2 kids? She was rude and condescending on the phone that I got so pissed. She thinks that my MIL must be responsible of all of us. I was explaining so now you want her to be responsible since you saw that shes a co petitioner? What should I do? I feel harassed and discriminated. Im not trying to beat the system. Im here trying to seek aid while my husband is in the process of getting a career in the homeland!
What's the official snap app used for Michigan??? I do have propel but I'm worried because I have seeing and hearing a lot of people benefits are being stolen and they all use that app
I just got approved for 536$ (family of two, my one year old kid and I) for the next two months and then 394$ starting in January. Is that too much? Should I call them to make sure they understood the facts? I'm a single, stay at home mom/ full time college student and living off of housing grants from school.
Hello I’m trying to claim the medical deduction for my disabled elderly mother. She has a few OTC prescribed meds she pays out of pocket such as probiotics for her diverticulitis and stool softeners. What do I need to submit as proof? Can I just do a CVS printout of her prescription orders? Any help is appreciated TIA.
I recently got approved for calfresh and cash aid (California). I'm in a situation where I can only pay for housing with a credit/debit card. If I withdraw my cash benefits from an atm and deposit it in my checking account to pay for housing, does that look like income that I need to report? I'm asking because when I applied I reported that I currently have no income (which is true). However, a family member had transferred me a little bit of money and I saw when I was approved that it got counted as income still.
I'm just curious if they're going to assume that it's income if I deposit cash aid that I've withdrawn, or if they would believe me if I explain the situation. Is there an option in California to just have my cash aid deposited to my checking account to make this more straightforward?
I'm filling out my recertification for SNAP and usually I just answer NO down the line of questions they ask "are you pregnant?, anyone on strike?, anybody work for food and shelter?" Etc. I do no because usually they all apply, except one now.
The "are any persons in your household blind, disabled or unable to work due to illness or injury?"
It's recently became apparent I'm too disabled to work. But I've heard others say don't say yes because it will be a bigger headache.
What changes if I say yes?
So i'm looking at my Notice of Decision and it says i'm an ineligible student and i'm not sure why. As far as I know I do fall under the : "Work at least 20 hours a week in paid employment" ending up with about 42 hours each pay period (Bi-weekly) and I have 12 credit hours making me a full-time student. I have two sources of income, a job that pays me $12 an hour bi-weekly and my National Guard pay which is monthly at $426 but I usually end up with about $316 after deductions . I have a $122 phone bill that I pay. I somehow am only getting $23.00 in benefits. How?? I know it's not supposed to cover your full grocery expenses but that doesn't even cover a week of groceries for me shopping at one of the more cheaper grocery stores in my area.
I might also have to start paying the electricity bill but the bill is not in my name. I am an authorized user on the account and would be responsible for paying the bill at the service address where I live.
Questions:
I have 2 months before I’m kicked out, currently living with my parents. They won’t be supporting me financially in any way & with how much im getting paid I dont think I’ll be able to pay rent and eat everyday. However as a family we don’t qualify for food stamps, so I think id get denied if i apply now, but I also dont want to wait until it’s an emergency. I also have the same question about rent assistance if anyone knows about that/can point me to the right subreddit.
Anyone who was been a case worker or worked at department of social services ? I have a renewal coming up but hesitant to re apply due to having one right now , they do ask the question on the forms but do they actually verify it through the system or take my word ?
I did my SAR on November first (it’s due end of November) and I got a notice saying the pictures of my pay stubs I uploaded on the app are too blurry and I could upload them again or email them. I emailed them to the address they gave me but now I’m debating uploading them again on the app as well just to be safe. Would that be overkill? I just want to make sure they get seen. I am in PA if that helps.
Thanks!
New to being homeless I've lost everything I've got clothing and a car what do I need to get on food stamps? How long does it normally take? I'm in Indiana
***Due to the inability of some people to understand time and who are just skeptics Ill add this for clarity: I would like to share that the previous post I made about my ex and his problems that made me leave him and that home were over 6 years ago. I lived in the house I just moved out of in January for 5 years. Also, I do not earn $39k, I earn about $20k and pull fasfa and grants.
I applied for food assistance right around the time the cost of groceries went through the roof a few years back. I was on them for about 9 months when I got a knock on the door. There was a fruad investigator who wanted to know how I was living off of my reported income. I invited her in, where I was making bread and noodles from scratch. I showed her how all of my furnature was found on the side of the road and refurbished. I showed her my bulk food bins and how I make my own soy milk.
Im great at being poor. My home is beautiful despite my income. She began asking about my income sources. I listed my 3 sources of income and how much and this is when and we relized that somehow my child support had not been counted. This was news to me too. Later, when recertifying for medical the system asked if I still recieve the $500 in child support. I realize now that these are different programs and may not share the same info but I feel like that is a testiment to my not trying to hide it. I only get it a few times a year and its not court ordered. I suppose I didnt get any the month I applied. I actually dont remember and told her this. I just accepted that I am at fault somehow but wasnt sure how. She said no big deal, I may owe some money back. I assumed Im still way under the poverty limits that this wasnt going to impact me too much.
FF 3 months and she shows up to tell me that I owe $1200. Wow, okay thats a lot but Im glad this error/descrepency was found before it got bigger! And then she tells me because the money is over $900 it is a felony. I was charged with a felony. I immediately dropped the assistance despite desperately needing it. Im truamatized. I got this news just as my transmission blew in my van, and as my landlord sold our home of 5 years. I paid the $1200 back in full and became homeless. I spent $6000 (that would have been on rent) on a lawyer to defend me as I cant go to prison (Im a single mom, where would my children go??) and a felony on my record could ruin my future. Im a full time honors student. We were homeless for 9 months as I struggled to dig my way out of this.
I transfered to university in a new county and stumbled across a fb moms group where there was an ongoing discourse about how many of them owe thousands of dollars due to mis reporting and are only paying it back at $10 a month. I asked if any of them had been crimally prosecuted and explained my situation. They all said no and kind of acted like I was a parhia at that point. One claiming they must have had a good reason for charging me. I just dont get why me. Even the investigator said she believed it was an honest accident but had to give it to the DA because its over $900.
Has this happened to anyone else? They have only offered me a plea to a felony that could be expunged after a year but I did not attempt to commit a fraud. I am so poor that the child support doesnt suddenly lift me into a new tax bracket. Ffs I make less than $20k a year and have 2 children in CA. This is still an ongoing thing and it has crushed me. I cant focus in school (I have fallen off the deans list for the first time), Im so depressed and thought of giving up but I cant. Being homeless for 9 months was soul crushing. We currently eat a lot of potatos, cabbage and onions, rice and beans and thank God Apples are in season and free everywhere. We forge for food like berries, fern fiddles, clams when in season. ect. Its exhausting. Im terrified to ask for help. Look where it got me.
Hi folks -- throwing myself on the mercy of others here, as I've been trying and failing for two days now to get someone on the phone to ask this.
I was furloughed from my job recently and applied for SNAP benefits to help keep afloat until I can land something else. I completed my interview and was told I'd have an update in a couple of days. MyACCESS is now saying I'm missing documents:
However, when I look in the Things to Do section in MyACCESS ...
Well, that's not helpful. Anyone have any idea what this might be, or know who I need to get in contact with to find out? The main line simply hangs up on you because everyone is busy.
How does emergency food stamps work? I am from MA and I got emergency food stamps I have been on food stamps before but I didn't not get my recert letter in the mail got an email saying they were stopped and then I slacked for a few months. When I got emergency food stamps on the 4th does that mean I should still get them on the 7th?
I signed up for Medicaid with my SNAP all of my SNAP verifications went through and we’re good there but for Medicaid they’re asking for a statement of how needs are being met for my 10 month old since he had no reported income? I’m very confused on what to submit for that as I did my application over the phone. (I’m in Ohio)
If a CalFresh recipient becomes a POA for an elderly family member, will the state/county attach the family member's account as income? The elderly person has their SSA direct deposited and the account is interest bearing.
Under California law a POA may never access the monies for their personal benefit. The monies can only be used to benefit the account owner.
If it comes up as income, is a certified copy of the POA enough to have it removed as income?
Thank you
I was supposed to receive my link deposit yesterday but still nothing. I did my renewal about 1 month ago if not 2.
