We are the musicians that do not need a trophy to show how good we are.
We are here to make sure music and art is for everyone, not just the wealthy. We support musicians, teachers, and educators that have been abused and exploited by the hazing and toxic culture of DCI, BOA, WGI and other performing art instutions. Ladies and Gentleman we are the Flying Circus Orchestra! We want to unionize the marching and performing arts!
We are the Flying Circus Orchestra, a community of musicians and artist that want corporations out of music education so that music teachers and band directors can be part of the community not apart of the competition that wants arts to become sports. Here we want ALL musicians and artist to feel welcome and supported for their creative endeavors and not feel ashamed or hurt by competitive groups of people who want to fit round pegs into a square hole. We also want to make aware of special needs and Autistic people who enjoy music, dance, and theater and make sure their needs are met by holding these groups accountable for their discrimination.

Many people in r/teaching and r/MusicEd end up being a bunch of ableists and I want to know why? I wanted to be a music teacher to help Autistic and other special ed kids like myself enjoy music making and learning new things. Yet over time I was tokenized, harassed, and discriminated against because of who I am which is an Autistic woman who plays the tuba. So many of you do not respect the accommodations of many children, something that in Michigan you could lose your job over. Yet you boast about your multiple degrees when you treat special ed children with low dignity and autonomy. When will you teachers and educators realize that it's not the degrees on your wall and how many awards you have, but how you treat and respect your students for who they are and all the wonderful things they can be? Testing and IQ have always leaned towards Eugenics and Ableist Ideals from the very beginning.
Do you want your students to respect you? Make learning engaging and fun, join a union, answer questions that need to be answered, no question is a stupid question, ban ABA not phones and accommodations, and learn from people like Heather Shumaker, and Alife Kohn, and join the IWW. I know there are many challenges teachers and educators face, yet you should not be blaming students when the real problem is the challenges your students face all the time like bullying, grooming, abuse, and discrimination.
