House of Music?

Does anyone remember a store called House of Music? It was a store in Flint that sold music and electronics.

I'm trying to figure out where exactly it was located for a personal project I'm working on. Thanks for your help!

MTA bus

Hey! I'm going to be needed to use the MTA bus system while in Flint for a bit and was just wondering if it was reliable based upon times? I'm planning on taking it to brighton to catch the michigan flyer bus but I dont want to pay for 2 buses just for the MTA one to be late. Thanks!

Deep cut - Any Clio people remember The Gap afterschool arcade?

I've since moved away from the town, but I can never find anybody who remembers it that lived there. I know I'm not making it up, because I used to go there after school. It was by Silvio's and the Little Giant, and you had to go in through the back in the alley.

There's got to be somebody else here from Clio who remembers this place.

For the record, this was the late '80s.

Nice, used coat donations?

Anyone know of a charity or shelter in the area that accepts nice, clean, used, adult winter coats but does not resell them?

Has anyone received their flint water settlement payment check?

You or anyone you know. Which settlement category(ies)? Did you have to do an appeal / respond to a letter of deficiency notice? Was the check quite a lot?

New Age/Spiritual type shops?

Hi all,

I’m wondering if there are any new age/spiritual type stores in the Flint area? I know there’s one in Grand Blanc I can’t remember the name though. Crystals, hippy type stuff, I’m sure you all know what I’m talking about.

My mom is in town and she loves this type of stuff, and I’d like to take her to a few places if anyone can help out? Thanks!

Need help finding my brother

Update Monday morning : He's okay! He made it to Complete Towing to get his car, can't find his phone though. They have been awesome, and let me put the whole charge on my card instead of trying to find someone to get cash to him, so he now has his car and his things. We'll work out the phone later.

Thank you so much to everyone who gave me information, spread the word, and went out looking for him. Also thanks to Pamela Price and the nice folks at Complete Towing. You have a great community up there. Thank you!

If anyone can help me find him, please DM and I'll give you my contact information, and if you know of organizations I can contact to help once I find him, please let me know.

I know this is a longshot, but I don't know what else to do.

I am in North Carolina, my brother is in Flint. He lost his job, and has really been struggling. Until recently, he was living near the Bishop airport, but couldn't pay rent and was living in his car. But night before last, his car got towed, to Complete Towing on on Dort Highway. It has all his things and his phone in it, so I can't reach him by phone.

Yesterday afternoon, he was at Priceless Dreams on E 2nd Street, and Pamela Price was helping him. She's amazing, and if you feel the need to help out your community, reach out to her, she was so unbelievably kind to him. I sent him some money via Western Union, and the closest place he could get to was the Quick Pack on W Court St. But I called them and their computers were down. He was taking the bus.

I have no idea where he is now and no way to reach him. His name is David Kennedy, he's 55, about 5'9" or maybe 5"10, 270 pounds. Light brown hair going gray, hazel eyes. I don't know what he's wearing, Pamela gave him some things since all his warm clothes are in his car. I wouldn't think he would be too far away from that area.

Eternal thanks for any help you can give.

TWO Mott Community College Board of Trustee Meetings next week

UPDTAE: AD hoc meeting cncleled- because they achieved what they intended.

Two upcoming Mott CC Board Meetings next week; hopefully, not as wild as the Nov 18 meeting.

Perhaps they might actually get the business of the college done.

1.The Mott Community College Board of Trustees will reconvene for the November 18, 2024
Regular Meeting on Monday, November 25, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. at the RTC Auditorium,
Room 1005

Hopefully, they will indeed pick up from where they stopped- the informational reports from various college departments, including the enrollment report.

  1. The Mott Community College Board of Trustees AD HOC Committee will meet on Tuesday, November 26 at 3:00 p.m. in the MCC Event Center, Room 1214.

The AD HOC committee is that committee that oversees the hiring process for the President: Everman, Daly, Swanson.

Agenda to be posted ??

Reminder: regular meetings are streamed on You Tube; ad hoc is not.

Stay informed.

Decent Apartments/Townhomes In the Area?

Been looking at a few places as my lease is up and I wanna move closer to family. I've been looking in West Flint Township, Flushing, Swartz Creek as that's where family is mostly, though Mount Morris isn't too bad, same with Grand Blanc or Davison. Ideally looking for a 2 bedroom apartment with in-unit washer and dryer for $1150 or under, or decently secure shared laundry under $1000. Looking mostly at Miller West and Stonehenge for the former, and Charter Oaks and Genesee Village (though not as much as they want a $750 redecorating fee) for the latter. Townhomes with included hook-ups for laundry I'd be interested in as well.

My previous apartment had no issues with the laundry room, it was locked and had cameras so never had a problem. My current apartment I had stuff stolen once and haven't left it unattended since. However I do get busy sometimes, especially with work or being on call over the weekends, so the added benefit/security of in-unit laundry or at least safe shared laundry would be appreciated.

Does anyone have any recommendations in the area that either have in-unit laundry or at least good experiences with shared laundry?

Has anyone been able to find ADHD medication locally?

I have been unable to fill my ADHD meds for about 3 months now because of the shortage and it’s negatively impacting my life. I was on Concerta which typically was in stock but its not anymore. My psychiatrist is willing to put me on any stimulant that is in stock. My normal pharmacy does not have it and I’ve called a few smaller pharmacies. If you have had a similar experience but had better luck please let me know.

What to know before moving?

This may be a frequently asked question, but I'm sure the answer changes with time, so I'm asking again.

Due to work, my family (wife, myself, and 1 yr old) will be moving to Flint in the first half of 2025. We're very excited for the opportunity and to travel, but we know nothing about the area and have never been to Michigan. So, any help/advice would be very helpful.

Are there places to avoid for traffic, crime, high prices, etc.? Are there places that are more affordable, safer, less traffic dense? We don't necessarily have to be right in Flint, surrounding areas work too so long as the commute isn't too bad (my wife has been looking at Grand Blanc recently on Redfin).

We'll also likely be there for many years (maybe forever if we really like it), so our son will grow up in Flint. Are there better/worse school districts? Again, any information would be fantastic.

EDIT: you all have been very helpful! Just getting responses here has made me so much more excited to move, knowing there's a great community awaiting us. Thank you all and I look forward to being your neighbor!

Mott Community College Enrollment

Turns out, when you have a chaotic and out of control board that hires an unqualified president, the core business of the college suffers. Mott’s enrollment is down almost 14 percent for winter semester according to what was shared in their board packets this week:

https://mottccrecall.com/2024/11/20/mott-community-colleges-winter-enrollment-is-down-and-it-is-unclear-if-its-board-is-even-aware/

Oh, and they tried to permanently hire the interim president overseeing that drop without doing a search for other candidates on Monday, it failed on a 4-3 vote. They’re definitely going to try again though, please pay attention to future meetings and make public comments if you care about Mott.

Was that site that I saw...

Where you could upload a photo and they'd send you a kit to paint by number just a spam and not local at all? I'm pretty sure I saw it in this sub. If not does anyone have any recommendations for something of the sort that's legit?

Anyone here live near Kearsley Park in early 00s?

I was born (91) in Flint and from around 10 years old in 2001, myself and my brother and sister lived right on the edge of Kearsley Park. My brother and myself actually had a summer job cleaning up the park during a couple summers around 2003 maybe. There used to be a guy that had a food truck close by that he sold stuff like cotton candy and popcorn from. And then there was the convenient store, Heddy's on Franklin Ave that we frequented.

Family Video, or even Hollywood video (Now Royal Liquor on Center Rd). Damn I miss the better times.

Looking for information related to 1973 Christmas Eve Murders at Skowron Hardware

EDIT (SOLVED) thanks guys!!! All of your help paid off. Was able to track down the articles, home address, and even some old pictures of my family members. Y’all are the best! I added some pics of what I found on my profile if you are interested.

This is my first time posting so excuse my general Reddit ignorance and I apologize if I have broken any rules. My sister and I recently started delving into some family history, creating a family tree, recording major events, etc. It appears that our family is HIGHLY unreliable in terms of factual knowledge so tracking down information has been…extremely difficult. That’s where we hope the amazing people at Reddit come in!

We are looking for ANY records related to the (at least) double homicide that took place at 4902 Industrial Ave, Flint Michigan on Dec 24th 1973. Dorothy and Chester Skowron were the victims of this homicide. The address listed above was formally known as Skowron Hardware.

We can’t find any newspaper articles in reference to this event. We haven’t been able to track down a case number. What we do have are two death certificates and a minor reference to the tragedy in Chester Skowron’s sisters obituary. Any help (even that Skowron Hardware existed as a legal business) would be so helpful!! Thank for reading if nothing else!
