Flamenco tips?

I've played classical guitar for two years because of school and now and am getting sick of it. No diss to classical music. But i just wanted to ask if anyone could tell me how I could get into more strumming types of music. Strumming guitar has a more lively air to it and the coolest part is that it seems like you can just make up songs on the spot if you know chords/music theory. I want to get into a flamenco style of strumming my guitar, your two cents (popular strum patterns, chord progressions, how to mix the two, anything that I could learn) would be super appreciated!!!!

Since i only have a 7 string I’ve been thinking to buy a nylon guitar and the first one it came into my mind was the ibanez tod10n because it looks cool and it has alot of benefits, but idk if it suits the style of flamenco and g flamenco. Any thoughts?

Where to buy flamenco shoes (women)

Hola!

I hope someone can help me. I'm looking to buy my first flamenco shoes, and living in Vancouver, BC there are no options locally. I'm planning a trip to California in 3 weeks.

Are these any flamenco shoe stores in California?

Thanks in advance!

Esteve guitars

Hi All,

I was at a guitar shop the other day and tried out the Esteve 5F and Cordoba F7. Esteve sounded better. They don’t have Alhambras and the next guitar up is about twice the price of the 5F. Anyone tried the Alhambras (which I could order online or drive a bit to test) vs Esteves. Anyone have experience with the Esteves?

Thanks

Flamenco song suggestions?

I have a project I'm working on, where I'm making a playlist for one of my favorite books. I need a song for a scene where the protagonist's best friend does a private flamenco performance for her. It's described as a "fiery, seductive dance that ended with her body on the floor, hands outstretched to her audience of one," and she uses castanets. Because it's a scene between two women, I feel like it should be a woman singing, and it needs to have been recorded and released before 1987. I know nothing about flamenco music, so I would love recommendations!

Update: The playlist is complete! I listened to all of the recommendations, and I felt the winner was "Mi cara morena - Tangos" by Carmen Linares. In case you wondered, the book is Summer Sisters by Judy Blume. Thank you, everyone!

What is C. Tangana’s el madrileno considered as?

I have a very limited experience with flamenco music but I love c tangana’s album el madrileno and want to discover sounds similar to it. I assume it’s not exactly considered flamenco but more flamenco pop. How should I describe music like it to find more music similar to the album?

Hand dexterity/injuries

Hi all,

I'm very new to flamenco. I've played guitar for a while, but I've only just started on flamenco techniques. This is an odd question, but my other big hobby is a martial art, BJJ, that is very similar to Judo, and one of the consequences of this is my hands/knuckles are a bit gnarled. Nothing too bad, but for context, I can hold an empty coke can when it's resting. I wasn't sure if minor hand/knuckle damage is something that can impede certain techniques. I'm fascinated to learn rasgueado, and I wasn't sure if this might be out of reach.

Has anyone had any experience, or know of issue learning flamenco with hand injuries? Thanks in advance.

Flamenco / bass guitar similarities?

Would you say there are similarities between playing bass and flamenco guitar? What would you say would be the biggest similarity or difference? I play bass and would like to learn flamenco when I get some extra free time. I'd like to know what I'm getting into before I buy the guitar, specifically will my already existing muscle memory impact my playing.

What was the first song that made you realize how much you loved flamenco or inspired you to explore it more deeply?

Mine was 'Aunque Es de Noche' by Enrique Morente. I felt a strange connection with it, even though I couldn’t quite understand the lyrics at first—and that’s kind of what the song is about (something beyond human comprehension that still touches us in a spiritual sense). I was already listening to contemporary artists, but that song introduced me to the tradition of Flamenco, and I’m still learning about it. Feel free to share your story and thoughts in the comments. 💃🏻🌹❤️

Can anyone recommend a reliable source for Flamenco lyrics?

It happens very frequently that I try to search for the lyrics of a flamenco song and each site gives me different lyrics.

For example, Aire by José Mercé. I think I've found four different versions, and they all sound plausible to my ear. Is there any way of telling which one is more accurate?

Sabica’s Malagueña

Hey everyone!

I was wondering where can I find a staff notation of Sabicas version of Malagueña? I’ve seen Paco De Lucia’s arrangement all over.

Can you guys recommend me some songs, artists, or albums that sound something like this (especially beginning at 1:00, when the singer comes in)?
