Guidelines
Feel free to post anything to do with Final Fantasy XII, International Zodiac Job System, Revenant Wings, Fortress, The Zodiac Age and any other FFXII-related discussion here.
Discussion of glitches is allowed, but please don't flame people for their use (or lack of use) of such. Discussion of hacking is also okay, but I feel that defeats the game entirely, so try to keep that to a minimum.

I started a new save in International Job System. I played very little of FF 12 before, but I didn't complete the story. Now in this new save I wanted to do something that deviated from the norm with the girls using physical attacker jobs. My team is:
*Penelo: Samurai *Ashe:Knight *Fran: Breaker *Vaan: Black Mage *Basch: Time Mage *Balthier: White Mage
I don't intend to do the post game, as I have a big list of games, I just want to enjoy the story. Can I beat the game using these jobs?
Mine was definitely the Sandsea lol. The place is honestly really weird and creepy on it's own, specially when you see the cutscene of Vaan pickinig up that weird quicksand on the sandsea. Also who built those metalic structures? I don't think they were the Urdan Yensa.
Also, the Urdan Yensa are creepy on it's own, like look at them and how they try to kill you also the Urdan Queen is terryfing, not only on apareance but in what she did (if you know, you know lol).
The music also doesn't help one bit.
Hi Guys, I am currently running all job Classes and I'm nearing end game terroritory. I'm starting to feel TBM and Machinist are pretty useless, unless I'm not utilising them correctly. My TBM is Basch with Uhlan. My Machinist is Penello with White Mage.
I was thinking of removing Machinist and TBM from them respectively and giving them classes others have, due to the high levels of equipment available.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thank you
Does the remake have the freelook correctely inverted?
As the title says none of my characters have the technick steal. All the guides seem to be somewhat out of date. Does vaan not start with steal anymore?
SOLVED WITH CHEAT ENGINE. TURNS OUT I WAS BUGGED. Shout out to asha_brea
I'm new and just in the very early game.
What constitutes as a "talking to a merchant" to unlock monographs?
Do I have to leave the building and come back inside to talk with the merchants for it to count towards the tally? Or can I just talk to them, end the dialogue, then talk to them again immediately without leaving the shop?
Same question for reading the hunt board: do I have to exit the Sandsea then re-enter to read the board each time for it to count or can I just read the board consecutively without exiting the building?
Also I read something about one particular monograph that affects Dustia's loot drops. But I don't fully understand why that's important, can anyone explain?
And is it possible to unlock all the monographs (from talking with merchants and reading the hunt board) before completing the Rogue Tomato hunt?
I'm at the part just before leaving Rabanastre for the first time (before doing the Rogue Tomato hunt, but I have it active already) but I erm... grinded the Diamond Armlets in Trial Mode so I have some gil.
Hi everyone! I'm going for platinum on the TZA version on PS4. I've finished the story to the point, where I'm told to go to the Bahamut near Rabanastre (In my understanding, this is the final dungeon and a point of no return. Am I right with this assumption?).
I'm currently on the cleanup phase, meaning I collect any remaining Magicks, Technicks and Espers that I've initially missed (nearly done with this), as well as completing all hunts and trying to complete the map. (I hope that this will unlock duribg some if those hunts, because I believe that I've visited every area up until now).
This leaves only two major things to do: complete the trials and complete the bestiary (well, technically I also have to complete the final dungeon as well, but I think this won't be too hard).
I've read on multiple pages, that conpletibg the bestiary can be a real pain in the ass. But since enemies defeated in the trials also count, it can speed things up dramatically. So I'd like to finish the trials before finishing the bestiary (and after that go in the Bahamut and finish the story).
So now I have multiple questions:
Main party: Ashe as White Mage / Foebreaker as tank and healer with the Escutcheon and Skorpio (F), Basch as Uhlan/Time Mage (dps and support) with Zodiac Spear and Germinas Boots (is there an better option for the accessory?) and Penelo as Black Mage / Monk for pure dps with Magi Staff and Holy from the Monk board
2nd Party: Balthier as Bushi/Breaker for dps and tanking (Kumbha + full Genji), Fran as Machinist/Red Mage as healer and supporter (most important time magicks from both boards) with a good shield and any measure (because they all give the same evasion) and Vaan as Knight/Bushi with white robes and excalibur (would the germinas boots be better here?)
Thanks for your input, everyone! Cheers.
Good morning,
I've only played the original PS2 edition, and now I'm starting a new adventure with The Zodiac Age edition.
I'd like to build a job setup that allows me to fight using both positive and negative status effects. I'm not interested in dealing massive raw damage or speedrunning boss fights; instead, I want to approach combat slowly and tactically, siphoning life from enemies while maintaining a sturdy, tanky defense, using status effects and dealing low to moderate damage.
Are status effects and a defensive combat style viable in this game?
Thanks in advance
This character creeped me out. Maybe it was good we don’t fight her cause I would have been afraid to face her.
I was replaying the game and I was unsure which jobs to combine. On a whim I decided just to keep each character locked with one job and I'm surprised just how much more I am enjoying the combat. I feel like each character has a defined role and identity now.
Anybody else feel the same way?
Hardly I felt a game where I had an “adventure” with the characters
Picked up a Rog Ally X a few months back and been thinking of picking up the Zodiac Age to play on it. From what I can tell the only difference between the Steam and the PC (xbox version in Microsoft store) is that the Steam version lets you play New Game + or - from the start and the PC version lets items carry over to New Game plus. Is that correct? Any other reason to go with one version over the other?
I remember when FFXII first released on the switch that it was the only port of the game that let you reset jobs, which was great for playing around with class combo's. I'm just wondering if other parts eventually got the same feature (thinking of buying the game for my xbox if it's there) or if it's simply a neat feature that's switch only?
Appreciate the help
Hey everyone!
Quick discussion point I wanted some thoughts on.
Machinist doesn't come with inherent Focus/Adrenaline nor does it come with Mystic Armor for that sweet Boosted Dark Shot with the Dark Robes. Nor can you have both at the same time with the job combo system. (No robe job comes with inherent Focus/Adrenaline, nor does any job that offers Focus/Adrenaline to the Machinist come with Mystic Armor).
So, the question is...which do think gets most mileage in the game? Focus/Adrenaline or Mystic Robes for a character that has Machinist and wants to primarily use Guns?
My take, I think more mileage is gotten from Focus/Adrenaline. Yes, Robes for Boosted Dark Shot is nice for one specific super-boss battle, but with the accessibility of Mithuna right after Tomb of Raithwall, Focus/Adrenaline using this is a very good combo that gets much more mileage than a robe job combo, for the use of the Machinists guns.
As always, the whys and reasoning's for what you think are most welcome!
Have a great day everyone!
PS: I know the Blazer Gloves & Steel Gorget accessories grant Focus/Adrenaline - so maybe this whole discussion is mute... even so... question still stands!
Hi everyone,
I'm at the Ridorana Cataract and a majority of my characters are getting LP capped. Given that, is there any variation with my characters as I continue to play, or are they pretty much set in stone? I'm really liking the story so I don't mind continuing. I'm just looking to see if my play style is finished and just applying them to every upcoming boss.
Thanks!
I'm not sure if ideal is the right word here, but how old did each character feel for you?
For context, I thought it was extremely odd that Ashe was labeled at 19 (two years older than Vaan), and Balthier was 22 (especially given his extension work experience).
Ashe felt more like 23-25 in my mind. She married for alliance (and secretly love) and she always seemed more mature to me.
I think Balthier should have been closer to 33. This man has some secrets and no way he is only 22! Plus I can't imagine badass grandma Fran choosing to be with someone so young (mentally).
Basch is on the mark at 36, but I might have preferred him older. Maybe 38 or even 40. He also has a lot of history, but with the timeline of Landis being overthrown by the empire and his twin brother's role, I can see 36 being appropriate.
Vaan and Penelope at 17 makes sense. The cutscenes and dialogue did a great job protraying both still having those childlike personalities.
But I would have made Larsa older. I just can't believe he would be 12 years old traveling through the Lhusu mines on his own. At least 15-16 would have been more believable.
Let me know if you had any thoughts on their ages, and how they felt to you!
So I read somewhere that it was actually the Emperor who ordered Vayne to kill his brothers under the moniker of treason.
Can someone tell me if that is true, and maybe link where they found it?

While browsing the FF wiki, I noticed some interesting trivia: the Reaper Claw's original Japanese name would literally mean "Power of Power" (https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Reaper\_Claw), while the Reaper Mage's original name would mean "Power of Mana" (https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Reaper\_Mage).
Localisations are sometimess criticised for not being faithful to the original text. But then there's cases like this, where the original text... would've just sounded bizarre.
Hi all,
This is my first playthrough of the game. I have reached this scene:
https://youtu.be/e329dFLZFjU?si=g4uLengBufBDGCV0
In this scene, we see Judges Bergan, Drace, Zaargabath, and Gabranth converse.
Judge Bergan seems to support Vayne (likes his ruthlessness).
Judge Drace seems hesitant, and Zaargabath tells her to basically quiet down.
Then, Drace and Gabranth talk privately, mentioning that Larsa is bringing Ashe (and friends) to Bur-Omisace to convince them to stop the insurgence (or at least delay it), by granting Ashe rulership of Dalmasca. They insinuate that it was the Emperor's (Lord Gramis') idea ("just as his excellency had hoped"). Then they mention that the senate is going to be "stunned" by this act. Am I missing some conflict here? Because to me it sounds like the senate should like Gramis' idea.
They then continue to talk about how the senate is hoping to control Larsa as a puppet, but they will be surprised that he will not be so docile.
So is this about Larsa following his father, vs. being manipulated by the senate?
I think I get the point of this scene, where a big change is coming to House Solidor, and the Judges are picking sides.
Thanks!
Hi all!
3 of the job combos I am running are:
Ashe: Red Battlemage / Archer (Shemhazai/Cuchulainn)
Penelo: Black Mage / Time Battlemage
Balthier: Shikari / White Mage (Zalera)
Most Espers and who to allocate them to speak for themselves for my chosen job combos, but I have 2 questions to pose to everyone as to which is more useful:
Zeromus - Either:
Adrammelech - Either:
Love to hear any thoughts and why either might be more beneficial than the other!
Have a great day wherever you are!
PS:
Rest of my team is:
Vaan: Monk / Bushi (Chaos/Zodiark)
Fran: Uhlan / Machinist (Famfrit)
Basch: Knight / Bushi (Belias/Mateus/Exodus/Hashmal/Ultima)
EDIT: I have been informed that Knight/Uhlan will double up on heavy armor that can otherwise be used on other pairings. So I've decided to not pair Knight with Uhlan for Basch anymore.
• Basch: Knight / ???
Unpaired job:
• Uhlan
I need some input for picking the remaining jobs for my characters. Below are my partially completed character job picks:
• Vaan - ??? / ???
• Penelo - White Mage / ???
• Balthier - Shikari / ???
• Fran - Time Battlemage / Monk
• Basch - Knight / Uhlan
• Ashe - Black Mage / ???
What would be the best/most fun job combinations from the remaining 5 jobs that I haven't picked yet from this list?
• Machinist
• Red Battlemage
• Foebreaker
• Archer
• Bushi
My only requirements are:
• I want to use all 12 jobs. No job repeats.
• Balthier cannot be a Machinist or an Archer
• Penelo cannot be a Machinist
• Only Vaan or Ashe can be a Machinist
Wanted to try and finish New Game Minus, been looking around and all. Here is what I came up with:
Vaan: Red Mage/Archer (Famfrit)
Balthier: Uhlan/Time Mage(Adramalech)
Fran: Machinist/Foebreaker
Basch: Knight/Bushi(Belias, Mateus, Hashmal, Exodus)
Ashe: Shikari/Red Mage(Zalera, Shemazai, Cuchulainn, Zeromus, Ultima)
Penelo: Black Mage/Monk(Chaos,Zodiark)
I am unsure who to give Mateus(Ashe gets Gil Toss while Basch gets Esuna, Cleanse, Curaga and Regen). Also not entirely about the job combo of Balthier and Basch in New Game minus.
So yea, I was wondering if this is a solid setup or improvements/alternatives could be made.
Hi, i came from the ps2 version so im still adapting to this “job” system, i dont know if im doing things right, i’ve been building my characters like this:
Vaan (Machinist/Knight): Tournesol, Renewing Morion, Maximillian.
Balthier (Black Mage/Bushi): kumbha, White Mask, Genji Armor (killed Gilgamesh sadly)
Fran (Red Battlemage/Monk): Kanya, Golden Skullcap, Lordly Robes
Basch (Uhlan/Foebreaker): Zodiac Spear, Magepower Shishak, Maximillian
Ashe (White Mage/Time Battlemage): Tula, Circlet, Maximillian
Penelo (Archer/Shikari): Mina, Aegis shield, Dueling Mask, Rubber Suit
I just want to know if those jobs combinations work, and if thats the case, what gear and weapons should i get as “ultimate”, and if the jobs are wrong what should i change and the new gear recommendations…
Thanks!
So far I have chosen
Vaan - Hunter
Balthier - Uhlan
Fran - Red Mage
Panelo - white mage
Basch - ?
Ashlelia - ?
Please note this is the international zodiac job system version so characters only get one license each.
