Is there a way I can find out if my grandmother is related to another person that isn’t in a tree

My grandmother always claimed that she was related to a professional football player from the 1960’s. We have believed her since the 1980’s she has passed on and my son has wanted a jersey with this guys name on it if we are related. This player grew up in the same town as my grandmother I’m just wondering is she took some hometown liberties.

Question about Switzerland/Europe in the 1800's

Call me a rookie! I am wondering if I am even asking the right question. I am trying to investigate some family history for my great-great-grandmother who was born in Eggiwil, Bern, Switzerland in 1843. The story told goes that she had some children out of wedlock, and those children emigrated to the United States while she stayed in Switzerland. She then married the (supposed) father of those children. This is just the story, in reality there is no proof of who the father actually is.

In regards to trying to prove this story true, or figuring out who the father was, what are the ways I could go about getting evidence? Would a child out of wedlock in the 1800's Europe carry the father's surname or use the mothers last name?

I have looked at familysearch and ancestry.com, but it gets more confusing the more I look. Any thoughts or insights would be helpful!

Crazy Scotland Records request

Record peek, please!

I would like to know if the wife's name is Annie "McKand" like the record states, or "McKean" like I have been led to believe elsewhere.

I need someone to put their eyes on this, thank you people so much!!

This says McKand and needs a look:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6TPM-51FY

This says McKean and I think it's right:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6TLC-L21R

I am working on this gentleman:

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/9MVF-4R6

and his wife:

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/9MVF-4RG

I sure wish Scottish record images were easier to obtain. I'm always so happy when I see all of the census records already in place, as they can't even be searched outside of special places.

Does anyone know why Abraham shows up as David's son on RelativeFinder (pink & blue chart) but not in FamilySearch? I'm new to genealogy and learning how the websites work together.

Edit function not working for me

When I click on edit to fix a misspelled last name of somebody, I am taken instead straight to the image of the document in question, instead of the page in which you can edit records. What could be causing this?

Contribution statistics for other users

I remember I saw somewhere a few years ago how my contributions compared to others who had contributed to my ancestors? Well I just hit a milestone of 10k created profiles and I was hoping I'd get to see that a again just to compare with others. Was that a one time thing or can it be seen somewhere?

I made a mistake

I was doing some digging in my dad's side, which was empty before I started putting him and his parents

So today I found his paternal grandpa in familysearch. Excited I try to add him, but by accident I add my dad's great grandparents as my grandpa's parents

So i basically I skipped a generation (my dad's grandparents) and idk how to fix it. Help pls. It is saying my grandfather's parents were his grandparents, which were registered as his dad's parents (as they are)

Sorry this is probably very confusing

What to do with Reasons from other contributors?

Let's say I'm editing someone's page, currently it states only "Birth 1878" From other sources I'm able to find out the precise date, I go to edit it and write "7th Jan 1878"

BUT, the "Reason this information is correct" box contains some indication from another contributor, like "according to census". Or "this matches other records". Or even "the death is correct because I went to the funeral".

What do you do in these cases? If I edit the date, this reason will go under my name too. Do I just delete it? I'm fairly new to the site so I don't know the proper etiquette in this case...

What is “2:2” in front of a PID?

I'm trying to copy a PID under an ancestor to replace an entry under my tree (the other person is far more complete in data and additional family connections)

Anyway - PID looks like "2:2:ABCD-EFG" I hit "copy ID" and it looks like that whole string is copied to the clipboard. However, when I go to paste it so it bring that record into the Merge window, it's looks like: 22AB-CD (which is an invalid PID format) .....and if try to manually type "ABCD-EFG" it says the PID is not found.

What does it mean when a PID has 2:2: in front of it?

Looking for Help with Argentinian Records (Tucumán Region)

Hi all,

I'm currently working on tracing my family tree and have hit a bit of a roadblock with finding some vital records from Argentina, specifically in the Tucumán region. I'm looking for marriage, birth, or death records for multiple ancestors, but the official request process in Argentina seems to require a record number, specific dates, etc., which unfortunately I don't have. I’ve tried using FamilySearch and Ancestry, but it seems like the records I need aren’t transcribed yet or aren’t available on those platforms.

Does anyone here have experience in searching for these types of records in Argentina, especially in Tucumán? Or any tips on how to find the necessary information without the precise details?

Familysearch adds people w/ no sources?

Hello, I found a potential branch of my family and it looks like it was FamilySearch adding and changing the details of those people, even the birth date, but there's no source and no one alive to be connected to those people. How did FamilySearch add them? Did they import that information from somewhere else and fail to mention what it was ?

Locked Record Access Help

https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/328913?availability=Family%20History%20Library

I am trying to access this collection I am looking for the birth of two of my ancestors 1 I know is from this region and the other I suspect

Augusta "August" Treder

Born 9 Oct 1853 Stargard, Westpreußen

Paulina "Apolonia" Seveickowski

Jan 1850 Prussia they married circa 1877 in Prussia before coming here.

Ideally someone could somehow tell me how to get access to the database, but if someone who can access it could do the check for me I would really appreciate it.

Death registration

Hello, Im quite new to familysearch and have a problem

My grandparents had 2 kids, my mom and an older brother who died very soon (or was a stillborn Im not sure). In my family tree there are both my grandparents and my mom obviously, and I also found that document of the passing of their son, but attached to another version of my grandma, with her name written wrong (one letter, and a lot of times those two letters were changed, since a lot of "y" became "i" in my language). And many dates are just wrong. How can I correct it and "eliminate" the other version of my grandma? Because it looks like my grandpa had two wives with literally the same full name except one letter which is obviously not the case, and their son has some wrong dates (cant remember exactly what, but iirc it says he lived some 40 years, but he didnt even live a week)

Help with death registration

Hi! I was wondering if anybody could have access to a death registration that I'm unable to see. The name of the decedent is Cristobal Cladera and his passing is registered in Uruguay, Civil Registration Index Card, 1900-1937. Their parents are Antonio and Juana Torres. The year of the death is 1936. I would like to know where he was born.

Thanks in advance

Website Changes

I’ve had a family tree account for about 2 years. I finally got back into it and realized if I go to the separate website, familysearch.org it’s the same as the family tree website from 2 years ago. They used to be separate websites with separate functions. Did the functions from family search go away when they merged?

Genealogy Booth Banner Tips?

Our ward is hosting a family history consulting booth at a local county fair. We want to make some signs to attract people to the booth. Not all understand the term “genealogy” or “family history”, and from what I understand we cannot use the name “FamilySearch”. I’m sure others have had this same experience and found a solution. Can anyone share ideas about what words could be put on the signs/banners? Maybe even provide a template or the electronic version that we can just adapt and send to the sign company to print? Or maybe some company in Utah already makes them?

Is it possible to add former spouses to family tree?

Hello, I am creating my family’s pedigree as a project for school, so, very pretty please, I need the answer as soon as possible. I would like to know if there is any way, (and how to possibly do it) to add former spouses to my family tree. Eg.: A couple had children, then separated, and had another children with their new spouses. Like stepsiblings that you only share 1 parent with. Is it possible to add their other parent, though it is not a parent of yours? Thank you so much for any answer, I’m a bit of confused about the software in this way.

How much should I trust familysearch?

Hey, yesterday I entered family search for the 1st time, and as soon as I put my great grandpa's data, it connects him with a woman tgat is my great grandma, his wife. Until then, all normal. But by putting my great grandna there, a ton of new ancestors appeared. Like, I havent finished lookinf into it, but I reached the V Century A.D.

And also, there were tons of ppl like, visigothic kings, byzantine and roman emperors, 2 saints (one just for some syriac tho), and a lot of portuguese nobility as well.

Which is pretty cool, but I cant know for sure how accurate that is, what u think? Not to mention possible cheatings in marriages and unregistered adoptions etc

Also, any tips fir someone new? Thx

Wrong family member

While filling out my family tree I noticed a few mistakes. For example, my grandfather was in the system so when I attached him to my tree there were two wives that were attached to him. He was only married once and was killed at a young age. One wife was my grandmother the other one was a lady who was born and raised on the west coast of canada while my grandfather was born and lived his entire life on the east coast of Canada.

Is there a way to remove this "second wife"? I can't seem to find a way.
