How do you think the GM should resolve the combination of Observation and Expertise talents?
Observation (Novice): You notice things others do not. Choose a Perception focus. If you fail a Perception test with your chosen focus, you can re-roll it but must keep the result of the second roll.
Expertise (Novice): Select an ability focus you have and choose a narrower task or field within it. You gain a +1 bonus for ability tests covered by the narrower task.
Expertise (Expert): If you fail an ability test covered by your chosen expertise, you can re-roll it, but must keep the results of the second roll.
If a player chooses Perception (Searching) for Observation and Perception (Searching: searching for clues) for Expertise, should he get two re-rolls on Perception (Searching: searching for clues) test?
The majority of the players in my campaign haven't watched or read the Expanse and I feel like I'm doing a disservice to the story because they are mostly just playing because they know I like the story. They're all DnD fans, and we play it constantly, and one Monday every 4 weeks we play the Expanse or we're supposed to. Unfortunately, my sessions are constantly called out from. Hell I have one PC thats been in a coma for the past 3 sessions because the player keeps having some excuse not to come. I think what really makes me want to scrap it, is when they hear we're playing the Expanse next week, they start to mention the potential reasons they can't make it. Idk, I think it comes down to me not being a good GM, because we've all played different RPGs together and had fun with new rules, so I can't wrap my head around it just being because of the setting of the game. I did find out last week that one player hates scifi, and I told him he didn't have to come and play if he didn't want to, and he told me to just re-skin the expanse into DnD so he can play.
Sorry for the rant, I just literally have nobody to talk to about this, because the response I usually get, is that it's just a game
I wanted to post this everywhere I could, as the momentum is not exactly fast on this one. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thenacellecompany/the-expanse-collectable-action-figures
Got an email — a Kickstarter update — that Sol System sourcebook is still in progress, but the majority of the layout is finished and GRP's just waiting on some art to finish it up. No dates though.
And Entertainer from the series Trades of the Expanse is up next.
Can't wait to grab 'em!
P.S. Here's the link with some cool images from the Sol System: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1780208966/the-expanse-roleplaying-game/posts/4033758
