Vision Pike 9-weight fly rod.
I'm from michigan and would like to target them, so far I've tied clousers the most for them, I haven't caught one so far, what other common material flies could I tie?
On a diver kick this week
Has anybody out there tried pike fishing at night? It’s more convenient for my work schedule to get out then. I imagine it’ll be just as productive and they won’t spook from a headlight that much as other species but wanted to see if anyone has personal experience with this. Either way I’ll be going out and trying and will post updates if successful
While throwing streamers for stocked trout in a nearby stream, I hooked into this thing. Put up an awesome fight, and I have no idea how it didn't break my 0x Flouro tippet.
Super healthy looking fish, you can tell it just murders the stocked trout all day haha. Officially a pike on the fly convert.
Fish was released quickly.
I got myself a 12 weight Chippewa River custom to get started in Musky fishing. I have an opportunity to get a TFO Big Fly Rod for $50 now so I figured having a second rod as backup would be solid.
Is there any reason I should get another 12 weight? Or should I get a 10 to add variety between my 8 and 12 weights?
Where do you guys find data on water Temps? I know the obvious sources for river temps (river gauge) but I am having no luck in finding reliable sources for lake water temps.
Any budget friendly rods and reel recommendations? As well as some fly patterns you like.
Hey o. Long time reader, first time poster.
I have been using this clasp forever: https://mustad-fishing.com/ca/product/ftcbb?colorName=Black+Nickel&packCode=12U&size=0.1mm
They are light-weight and easy to use. They also have a fail-point that is less than my fly line. In the event of a catastrophic snag, it is just the fly and clasp that is sacrificed. They are not 100% but the failure is measurable and observable. I can no longer purchase them locally. I have the non-swivel version, but I really like the way the swivel version allows the fly to keel itself naturally. It will take a while for them to arrive, not soon enough for my week long back country fishing kayak adventure.
I need an interim solution. I am also really far away from the nearest retailer of anything. I can send my friend to Bass Pro before he arrives next week. When I am looking at pictures, I cannot visualise size and weight. I cannot send anything and say 'like this one', because I do not have any. Does anyone have any suggestions for a relatively light-weight swivel clasp for my pike leaders?
Maybe this one: https://mustad-fishing.com/ca/product/ma101/?colorName=Stainless+Steel&packCode=2&size=2
Thanks, hive.
