3rd shift food

Hello! I’ve just started working 3rd shift in Erie, and I’m looking for recommendations for where to get food at abnormal times for the daylight people. Like, pizza and chicken wings at 7 am, or breakfast at 10pm. Any recommendations and suggestions you have would be amazing! Breakfast for dinner is getting old 😴. Thank you!

Nursing in Erie/PA

Hey, new neighbors. I have been working on moving to Erie. It's beautiful- even if winter may be harsh. You folks seem quite lovely, the cost of living is doable, and my wife and I will have more protections here than in Indiana.

Anyone is welcome to speak on Erie, Pennsylvania, nursing- or anything else you'd like to share. My parents live about five hours away in Lebanon. What has it been like for transplants? How are the nursing jobs here? What about the pay? I'm a pediatric now. I don't really want to go back to ER unless there is a standard for patient safety and ratios. I am a vet and couldn't potentially work at the VA. How is the outpatient surgical side of things?

Is Erie a good place to start a small business? like Asian restaurant?

Thinking about to invest an asian restaurant in Erie.

I did research.

Two Asian buffet in peach street.

Few asian fusion restaurants.

Most of them are American Chinese food.

2 asian boba tea shop and 1 "too American" boba tea shop

No hot pot and no Asian BBQ place at all.

I was thinking about Hot pot or korean BBQ style restaurant.

I don't know if they will be accepted in Erie, since it is very risky to start that kinda business "since no man been there before" in Erie.

Presque Isle Fish and Farm

I haven't been there since they opened (a bit pricey for my budget). They had tons of 'fish', but no 'farm'. They were going to sell local meat, too. Have they start to yet?

Parking lot at E 38th and Pine

I remember years ago, there was a locally owned pharmacy there, but I can't remember what the name was. Also, wasn't there a supermarket there, too?

Looking to buy a few bales of timothy hay

Any farmers/horse owners want to sell me about three bales of good quality timothy hay (ie pale green and not overly yellow). I'm looking to buy it for my rabbit. Just DM me here. Thanks!

Cool article in Erie Times News: Where We Used To Shop

It's a bunch of old newspaper ads from various grocery stores around the area. I'm amazed to see that downtown Erie, now a food desert, teemed with grocery stores over the years. E 12th and Holland? E 11th and Wallace? West 18th with stores on Peach AND Sass? In a quick count, I saw no less than three stores on State over the years. Growing up in 1970s Millcreek (lots of store ads there, too), I never realized how many people lived over there in the city to support all those places.

And check out those prices!

(for those behind a paywall, it's a whopping $1 a month for 6 months of unlimited access right now. Pony up!)

Cute date ideas?

I am looking for cute date ideas. I'm from erie so I'm not looking for your typical movie theaters, Asbury woods, Dobbins landing, etc. I am looking for any, not so well known, fun things to do. Things more like escape rooms, axe throwing, wine tasting. Any gems would be appreciated

Anybody try to get Rotisserie Chickens at Sam’s Club?

Last year I got into the habit of meal prepping and the chickens at Sam’s were a constant in my fridge at home. Decided to get back into it a couple months ago and ever since then, I have struggled to get one.

Every time I go, the rack is empty and there’s a very impatient crowd gathered around it. As soon as the staff puts out a fresh load of chickens, the first 5 people grab as many as they can. Literally looks like Black Friday.

Oddly enough, I went the other day and the rack was completely full with nobody standing around it. I guess it depends when you go.

Terrible Traffic

Maybe I just don’t drive during rush hour, so that’s why I’m naïve. But what the hell is going on out there? What events are happening tonight?

Best banks in Erie?

Looking to leave Northwest after they completely dropped the ball with a referral bonus I was supposed to get.

Any good banks where I can set up a checking and savings account. New customer bonus is a plus. Thanks.

Is anyone applied for an appliance rebate through the Inflation Reduction Act funds?

I want to buy an induction stove to replace my aging gas stove. But when I tried to figure out if I was eligible for a rebate, it seemed that I had to buy the appliance first, then I could fill out the application to find out what my rebate would be!

Obviously I would like to know before I buy one.

I'm assuming the Inflation Reduction Act funds will be canceled under the new president. And also that the new tariffs could jump appliance prices.

Body shop recommendations?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for body shop recommendations if anyone has one, for getting a Tesla model three front bumper repaired. Unfortunately there are no Tesla certified body shops in Erie but if anyone knows of someone who has had their Tesla repaired at any local shop, that would be very helpful. Thank you in advance!

Tobacco king incident

So this happened last night on peach St at the tobacco king in front of the hospital and next to the CVS/rite aid. Firefighters, cops ambulance all of them were there. Had the whole road blocked off and rerouted all of traffic for this. I saw no smoke so it wasn't a fire. Any one knows what happened?

Relocating. How is this area?

Erie, be honest. Am I wasting my time looking for houses in this area? The prices seem too good to be true.

My experience in Erie

I was volunteering in Erie on and off for the past few weeks for the Harris Campaign. I am from Buffalo and not a stranger to Erie but this was the most time I have ever spent here. First off almost everyone I came in contact with was amazing and friendly minus a couple people who had opposing political views who went out of their way to be rude. Easily one of the most impactful moments of my life happened on election day. A call came into the Dem HQ I was in, a woman needed a ride to the polls with about one hour to vote left. I volunteered to go and met a Sudanese immigrant of 28 years at her house. She used a walker and had broken English but she was determined to vote. She yelled at me a little for not driving fast enough and not knowing where the school/polling location was right away but I got her there. I let her know I would wait as long as she needed while she voted, she was having none of that as she told me I was going to help her inside. I assumed it was just to help her walk in, I was wrong. I didn't know she was unable to read English. I was advised to take off my Harris clothing which I did when I walked in and then filled out a form with my info showing I was assisting her. I read off each candidate and she selected her choices. After the ballot was submitted into the machine I told her "congratulations you voted!", she just repeated back "I voted?!" both myself and the election workers repeated back "Yes you voted", she broke down crying happy tears she made me a grown man in my 40s start to cry. Knowing how impactful it was to her made me proud of all the time and effort that was put into my time there. I really want to thank the poll workers at East Middle School, both dems and republicans that assisted her, putting yourself out there to help keep democracy strong is so important. The result of the election may not be what I wanted but having that experience made it all worthwhile.

Check your ballots online

Long story short my parents voted early a couple weeks ago with their mail in ballots. Yesterday they went online to check the status of them. My dads came up and showed status ballot returned. My mom’s information wasn’t even coming up in the system. This morning she called down to our county elections office to see if there was an issue and why it was showing she wasn’t in the system. The lady she spoke with told her it looked like her ballot got put in with my dads but they fixed it. This is where the confusion started, and my mom was worried she didn’t understand what they said. So my wife called. She spoke with another lady who said that isn’t what was said, that there was a lot of new volunteers and her information got typed in wrong. (This is where more confusion came, as we thought ballots were scanned so why does anything need typed) My wife then called the PA state election line, just to make sure their ballots were in the system and counted. In the state system it is showing that my dad turned in 2 ballots and is registered twice under their address. My mom’s ballot or registration is not in the system. They are taking it higher up to find out what happened and that their ballots were counted and will be contacting my parents.

All this to say, double check online that your ballot has been received and processed.

Bullying at Erie city public schools

Hey all. It’s looking like I’m going to have to move to Erie to care for my aging parents. I grew up here but it’s been awhile and I went to Catholic school. If it was just me I’d be happy to live in the city but I have an elementary school age child with Autism and ADHD. He doesn’t have any academic deficits (he has a 504 but no IEP) and receives some accommodations and gets OT once a week but otherwise no services. On paper the suburban schools look better but I’d really rather not live there. So setting aside academics, how are the city schools, particularly elementary and middle schools, with bullying? My husband and I can make sure he meets academic milestones but I just want him in a place that is safe and welcoming. Any insight would be great. Thanks.

TLDR: which city elem and middle schools are safe and welcoming for a weird kid?

Challenges

I went to the bar that did a “shot challenge” and if you do 11 shots you get a bachelor degree and 21 shots you get a master’s degree that they print out. Is there anything at the Erie bars that do something similar or any bars that have a “challenge”?

Anyone have an update?

This picture/post came up as a memory on Facebook. I shared it 10 years ago today in hopes that it would help. Does anyone have any updates if he was reconnected with his biological parents?
