Everquest Mac Edition is a near-classic version of the game that is permanently timelocked in the Planes of Power era. Aside from an update to support Intel processors (specifically after Lion dropped Rosetta support), there have been no patches for many years.

This community was created for Redditors who want to connect in-game and share an oldschool MMO experience... for free!

I got a new computer and do not have the old EQ, is there anyway someone can send me a copy or show me where to download it? I really want to play this game.

Hello,

I need the download. I have NO idea where to get it, unless there is some super secret/ (Not secret I'm not internet/computer savvy) place to get it.

Thanks!

How can I get started?

I was planning on giving EQMac a shot, then I heard about it getting shut down. This was, what, a year ago?

I see that there are plans to put up an emulated server. How can I join in?

Eqmac to close down. Again.

Got this email from SOE:

Along with many fallen heroes of Norrath, EverQuest Mac will now make its journey to Ethernere. It’s with heavy hearts that we announce EverQuest Mac will come to a close at 1‌2:01 am PT on 1‌1/18/13 when SOE shuts down the EverQuest Mac server. We greatly appreciate all of the EverQuest Mac players who have adventured through Norrath with us over the years. We hope to see you online in the PC versions of our EverQuest Franchise games on SOE.com. Sincerely, Sony Online Entertainment

Damn.

Reddiors on EQMac

Hey guys.

Seems like there is an influx of people on EQMac. That's great!

Feel free to send me a /tell on Judah. Would love to help out some new Redditors on the server.

Catch up on the recent drama...

On 1/27, John Smedley alerted the EQMac community that the Al'Kabor server would be sunset during the transition of EQLive to a F2P game. The reasons he gave made sense from a business perspective -- the codebase is ancient and only one developer (the amazing Hobart) knows how to support it.

After the immediate outpouring of grief, Smed asked the community if they would be willing to play a Mac ported version of the current up-to-date version of the EQLive PC game. While the response to his poll was overwhelmingly positive, EQMac players continued to contact Smed to express their love for Al'Kabor's permanent POP-era timelock.

On 2/14, Smed made a surprise announcement that Al'Kabor would continue to exist as-is, with the exception of dropping support for older PPC systems (G4, G5). The game would be completely F2P with no current plans to integrate the Marketplace or any other F2P restrictions. His only request was that in response to this gift, Mac players consider checking out EQNext when it is released for Macintosh in the future.

So that's where we are. New account creation has been opened up again, and anyone with a Station account can join Al'Kabor. See the sidebar for links to the Installation Guide... and see you in Norrath!
