Share information and discuss the environmental justice movement and issues.

Environmental racism and discrimination disproportionately distribute environmental burdens on people of color and low-income communities. The environmental justice (EJ) movement is the response to environmental racism and discrimination.

Has anyone ever been able to successfully cancel or deter a proposed land development?

There's multiple dozens of acres of untouched land on a property in the southeast US that is particularly special to my family and many folks in the community. These super wealthy mega developers are currently in the process of buying the land, and they're going to bulldoze all the woods/habitat just to put new (expensive) 7-foot apartment buildings, stores, etc. Obviously habitat destruction is a tremendous environmental issue, removal of trees is a climate issue, and this is happening on land that contains a watershed so water pollution is a public health issue. Also, this is happening in a part of the community with a lot of older, low income folks that are being pushed out due to gentrification.

I'm a conservation biologist myself, so I've tried to find environmental illegalities in this proposed development so we can protect the land and keep it from happening. Unfortunately, the law seems to be on the developer's side (f****** capitalism). Additionally, you can apparently just apply for permits to develop around watersheds, which seems wrong...I haven't found any federally protected Endangered Species on the land, although wildlife is obviously abundant.

If you have any advice, or have ever been able to successfully deter a disgusting development of precious natural habitat (without breaking the law), please let me know!!

How do you like it? Japan is deliberately trying to spread radioactivity.

How do you like it? Japan is deliberately trying to spread radioactivity.

Excuse me, in Japan from now on, without removing the radioactivity,
It is starting to move in the direction of using radioactive materials for building construction materials.
I think that this is an act that spreads radioactivity to the whole world far more than Russia's radioactivity spread attack.
Of course, it will also lead to health hazards for people around the world.
Therefore, I think that if it is realized in Japan without being informed by everyone, it will infringe on the rights and freedoms of people all over the world.
Therefore, I would like to ask people all over the world for their opinions on this matter.

Federal restrictions on incandescents is an environmental justice issue

We the people have evolved over the ages with natural sunlight, a blackbody radiation emitter (meaning it emits a specific, continuous spectrum of wavelengths from UV to infrared). Incandescent lightbulbs, which are also blackbody radiation emitters, are being crudely restricted by the Dept of Energy, leaving us mainly with what I like to refer to as “neutered light”, or LEDs. These are a mechanical, unnatural form of light, neutered because it contains only the visible spectrum, none of the UV, infrared or near infrared that our bodies need for optimal cellular regeneration and maintaining circadian rhythms.

As people are spending more and more time indoors, and artificial light unfortunately evermore present, we should therefore be fighting to keep incandescents around, not banning their sale. This affects everyone who lights their home with a lightbulb, and many people are so sensitive to LEDs that they have seizures. No joke. Check out Marie Ann Cherry ’s open case against the NY Public Service Commission about the LED streetlights on her street giving her seizures, essentially making her a prisoner in her own home. But even those who just suffer eye strain and headaches from LEDs are being unfairly treated as a result of these federal regulations. DOE needs to roll them back, immediately.

Leveraging the Private Sector to Advance EJ Objectives

Hello -- I work for a large renewable energy company, and we are seeking partnerships with Tribal Nations, community-based organizations, and local governments to solve for environmental justice issues in the US. We are particularly focused on opportunities stemming from the Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act (IIJA) and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Feel free to comment or send a DM if you know of any opportunities to collaborate! We specialize in solar, storage, and EV charging.
