For any female dog owners, what did you do to help your dogs spay coat? I recently bought omega 369 and switched my dog back onto a marine based food. Her poor fur is turning into fuzz and everything sticks to it. Any coats out there that help?
Maybe the males also get the frizzy coat?
Hello! This is Pippin, our first English Setter (and my first dog in general)! He's a 4 month-old show line Orange Belton, and so far proving to be bright, silly, super quick to learn, and full of rambunctious puppy energy. We love him!
I'm just curious what we can expect from an affection standpoint — I know the breed is considered very loving and cuddly, but I haven't seen any of that in ours just yet (he isn't even a huge fan of being petted). I'm wondering if this comes with time and age, or if perhaps we just have a very independent, disinterested boy.
When did your setter start laying by you/resting on you? Is there anything in particular that brings it on?
We have a 7 mo old English Setter, she's a bit stubborn, but oh so sweet. We're working on commands, but she is also to be a working pheasant/grouse dog. We have 1 other English Setter (7) and a rescued jack Russell (also 7). We live in the country, all dogs have invisible fence collars and access to dog doors all the time except at night and "time outs" for the puppy. We noticed the other day that she was eating her own poop. We yell, and she runs off with it-so gross. She also poops in the house still if she is not gated in our room at night. Hates her crate-tried that-our room with a pillow is the best option right now. She will be leaving for a month to go to "school" to hone her hunting abilities. How do we keep her from eating her poop??
We have a male rescue, aged about 2.5. He has been neutered. Sometimes he marks the living room curtains! I’ve just washed and ironed them twice in the last 24 hours! I had sprayed an ecological repellant on them yesterday afternoon and by evening, he’d done it again (🤬)! He was only out of our sight for a few minutes as well! Anybody have any suggestions? It is not a constant thing. He did it once when we first got him and then once a few months later. Just when I thought it was over, now it’s happening again! Twice in one day is a bit too much to have to deal with.
Charlie the Lab is 12 and Tucker the English setter is 9. Brothers from a different Mother!
(not shock collars, trackers)
Hi Spaniel fam, I've got a bad case of puppy fever! I've raised two Springer Spaniel's and my current girl is 10. I recently stumbled upon English Setter puppies and I melt into a puddle of good every time I see them! I've done some research, and am confident that I'd do well with any spaniel breed, but I want to hear from you, why you love your setter - actually I just want to hear it all - the good, the bad, the ugly - don't hold back.
We have a setter who was a rescue dog. I've posted him on here before but he's a very healthy 2 year old pup. I've also had 2 other setters in my life who were also rescues so I'm pretty familiar with the breed. A lot of neighbors around our area ask during friendly conversation if we take him hunting ever because he's always scanning the neighborhood for birds etc. We personally don't hunt, but Luca has a lot of area to run around in plus a lake in our neighborhood we go on walks around and he can dive in and out of the tall grass rustling up whatever he can.
Im just curious how many owners in this sub do or do not take their setters hunting and how many times a year is it? Are we talking like only 2 times a year? 20 times year? Never? Just curious what others experiences are! Thanks.
Our 5mo setter puppy gets the nighttime zoomies. I know this is normal behavior, especially for his age. I wanted to know if the better approach is to let him run it out and hopefully tire himself out, or to redirect and try to avoid getting worked up and keep him calm before putting to sleep for the night. Any setter owners have an opinion?
Very warm Fall here in Michigan. Spent a couple of hours after work raking. These two were no help!
