Adults in business and kid in economy - advice needed.

Hi all, any recommendations and advice are welcome and appreciated. My husband and I and our 3 year old daughter have been traveling together since she was 5 months old. We usually fly business class as a family - my daughter has never flown in economy. To give some context, we’ve travelled with our aupair on our last trip and we flew our aupair to meet us in the middle of our trip, and she sat in economy. We have an upcoming trip this time to Dubai, it’s an 8 hour flight - my husband and I decided to put my 3 year old in economy with the aupair. Initially I thought it was a good idea, just to show her how others travel - also to show her that business class is a privilege, not a given. Now that the time is nearer, I feel soooooo guilty, we can definitely afford to fly her in business but I also want to teach her about life. Also with the breakout of all these flus etc, I’m also worried about people sitting so close passing illnesses to her. Please advise me on which seats would be best for my daughter and the aupair? Is there anything I can do or buy to make it more comfy for her? We’re going to be in the airbus, so economy is downstairs, will I be able to go visit during the flight? Will she be able to visit me? Thank you in advance!

Saver Tickets Sold Out Every Single Flight and Day for My Route—Strange?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been eyeing this flight route: BNE-DXB (28 Nov) DXB-CPH (3 Dec) CDG-BNE (31 Dec)

I know it’s still quite far ahead, but I like to plan early. Initially, the tickets cost around AU$4,500 for 2 adults + 1 infant. A few days ago, the price went up to AU$4,600, then this morning it was AU$4,700, and by this afternoon, it shot up to AU$5,100!

I’ve also noticed that the return leg (CDG-BNE) seems to be the part driving the price up, especially because there are literally no “saver” ticket types available from my initial return date up until two weeks later—it’s all “flex” tickets, which I find a bit strange.

If it were just a one-day thing where the saver tickets sold out, sure, that’d make sense. But it’s literally every single flight and day up until mid-January, which seems odd.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Do prices usually drop again, or is this likely to keep climbing? Any insights would be super helpful—thanks in advance!

Should I Book Now or Wait for Airfare to Drop?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been eyeing this flight route: BNE-DXB (28 Nov) DXB-CPH (3 Dec) CDG-BNE (31 Dec)

I know it’s still quite far ahead, but I like to plan early. Initially, the tickets cost around AU$4,500 for 2 adults + 1 infant. A few days ago, the price went up to AU$4,600, and today it’s at AU$4,700.

I also noticed that the return leg (CDG-BNE) seems to be the part that’s driving the price up.

I’m torn—should I just wait and hope the price drops since the trip is still months away, or is it likely to keep increasing from here? Any opinions, experiences, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Seat Selection Question

I will be flying an Emirates 777-300ER with new business class and premium economy seats.

Trying to decide between 4D/4G (in the smaller BC compartment) versus 12E/12F (the last row in the larger BC compartment, behind which is the new premium economy cabin). Why do people say to avoid row 12?

Flydubai check in at T3

Hello, my flight operates out of T2 at DXB. However the hotel I am staying at offers a free shuttle to T1 and T3 at DXB not T2. Would I be able to check into my flydubai flight at T3 in DXB and then take the transfer bus at T2? Or would this involve having to go through security again? Not sure if my bags would still make my flight too

Earn Emirates Miles without Credit Cards

In this post I would love to discuss methods to earn emirate skyward miles “not tier miles” in different areas and criteria :

  1. SKYWARDS EVERYDAY APP

A lot of venues have direct connection and partnership with emirates which allows you to earn miles by adding any card you own in this app

Download it and connect up to 5 cards “even if the cards don’t belong to you” on the app

If accidentally you spent in a place that gives you the miles then you earn automatically, my advice is always keep both invoices “the network and the shop invoice” , had cases where they didn’t credit the miles

————————————— 2. DUBAI MALL APP

link your EK membership number to Dubai mall app , after the new update

You can scan any Dubai mall invoice above 100 Dhs even if it was grocery or restaurants , anything within the dubai mall premises is counted except , bill payments , utility payments , government fees , money exchange

  • A valid receipt is defined as a store receipt for a transaction carried out by Dubai Mall rewards member at Dubai Mall, and submitted within 14 days from the transaction date through Dubai Mall app. The 14-day period includes the date of purchase, and receipts that are submitted more than 14 days after the date of purchase will not be accepted. The time of purchase will not be taken into consideration.

  • Credit/Debit card receipts will not be accepted.

  • Emirates Skywards members who have linked their account to Dubai Mall app will earn Skywards Miles on their spend in Dubai Mall at a rate of:

    • Platinum: 1 Skywards Mile per USD 1 spend. “unlimited miles earned”

    • Gold: 1 Skywards Mile per USD 1.5 spend. “Unlimited miles earned”

    • Silver and Blue: 1 Skywards Mile per USD 2 spend. ”limited to 10,000 miles per month for silver , 5000 miles for blue”

  • Make sure the bill either doesn’t have a name on it or under your name that is connected to your EK membership

Uploading the bill in the next month still will calculate the date on the bill so if you already reached your max limit of miles for the previous month you won’t earn for it so keep that in mind

That’s for more info

Uniform Standards Declaration Form

Hello, I'm an aspiring Emirates cabin crew.

I know this seems like a stupid question or that I'm absolutely overthinking (which I am 🙂)

I just finished Emirates AD for cabin crew position almost a week ago. So during the uniform declaration form — I don't have any tattoo, scars, or even birth marks on any of my arms, legs, and face. So I put "NO" cause I had nothing to declare. After submitting and everything, it just dawned at me after several days that I actually had two tiny moles (like a dot) on my right arm. I know it's really small and I'm just overthinking but would that still badly affect in the future if I ever do get in? Like would they think I was hiding it in the first place (which I really wasn't)?

Thank you

Cabin Services Assistant Salary?

Is the Cabin Services Assistant a lower grade than CC2? If so, how much less do they get paid? And where are they usually assigned?

Flying with 10 month old

UPDATE:

Thank you all for your comments. Very helpful. I called Emirates and they advised me of the seats that were available on our selected flights.

Appreciate you all! Onwards!

Probably asked 1 million times but anyway.

My partner is planning to do a very long haul journey (13 and 8 hours back to back flights) in few days with our little one who is just about to turn 10 months old. I have some questions I hope you don’t mind me asking, your advice is most welcome.

  1. Emirates website is asking me to book and pay for the tickets before I can select/ view available seats - my partner will, under no circumstances make this trip if a bassinet seat cannot be guaranteed (100% understanding from me on this). If I call them prior to booking the ticket, could they take a look at current bookings and advise me on whether this is doable?

  2. Partner is concerned about how she will manage getting on and off the planes. And whilst on the plane, how she will manage going to the toilet etc. Appreciate any first hand feedback or experience with getting some basic help from Emirates staff on these matters.

Thanks all, A tentative Dad

Any promotional offers for emirates flights?

Sorry for the daft question, I am hoping to fly in July or August from Manchester to Chennai. I don’t have credit card to accumulate points or miles. I did have a little bit of skyward miles but they don’t make any difference to the price.

Currently the ticket is at £491 one way.

If you had come across any discounts or any possible way at all to bring it down a little bit, please let me know!

Etihad is the next best alternative at £337 but leg room is not great and for some reason they made me sit out to check my passport after everyone boarded so just a bad experience which I never faced with emirates.

Chennai boarding

Why is Emirates’ boarding process at Chennai (MAA) airport so horrible. In airports in other countries they call passengers one seating zone at a time. But in Chennai they create queues for multiple seating/ boarding zones simultaneously and make passengers stand in a long line, 30-45 minutes before they start boarding the last two zones!!! Why?

JFK to DXB, EK202 vs 206

Hey all! We're planning a trip to Dubai from JFK on March 19th, and were wondering if flight loads will be lighter on EK206 which stops in Milan vs the non-stop EK202 flight to Dubai. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

Is usually Airbus A380-800 from Dubai to Toronto usually completely filled/booked?

I'm flying on April 15th and I just want to assess if it usually gets filled or should I pay for the seat selection rather than waiting and getting stuck with a middle seat?

What else other than submitting a complaint can I do to get a reimbursement for a cancelled flight? (Waited 8 hours inside of an airplane)

Hello everyone,

2 weeks ago I had a flight from JFK to MXP, due to the weather conditions, at first our flight was just delayed after I got into the airplane, they said they needed to deice the airplane, then, for the next 8 hours INSIDE the airplane, they were saying random stuff, first they said we are about to take off but we are in a queue, then they said they needed to deice again but this time they need to get that fluid from another terminal and so on for 8 hours. After 8 hours they just apologized and said they have to cancel the flight for “legal” reasons, I also had to wait for my luggage for 2 hours and after 2 hours they just said that we are not getting it until the next day, all the reimbursement I got was a ticket for the same flight next day and stay in a hotel.

Now, I also had a connecting flight in Milan that I have missed due to this cancellation, so I had to pay for new tickets from Milan and a hotel.

I have submitted a complaint through their website, is there anything else I can do?

Backpack or Carry on in Economy?

If it were you would you rather take a backpack or carry on in economy and why? I am planning to travel with Emirates for the first time and this cabin baggage rule is pretty shocking to me. I don’t want to risk it and have to pay for a second piece so I will only take one up to 7 kg.

Just curious if it were you which would you take? A carry on is heavier but allows a lot more things to be placed inside. On the other hand a backpack is easier for small items and goes under the seat in front of you so I can access it easily.

I am thinking about bringing a carry on and a VERY small backpack, laptop bag, or square shaped satchel bag that fits in the carry on and just take that out in the plane.

DXB lounge access for Skywards Silver and Blue members

Hi,

I’m a Skywards silver member and my partner is a Skywards blue member.

Do I and my partner have access to any lounges in DXB Terminal 3?

If my partner (Skywards blue) does not have access, how much would we have to pay extra to get access?

Thanks!

Skywards Miles BC Booking

Hi all

I was looking to use my points for a Business Class booking in the near future. I wondered if these reward bookings give you the lounge access and chauffeur pick up if you book business directly using points rather than upgrade the booking from economy to business using the points?

Thank you!

Flight Compensation for Delayed Flight

In December, I flew with Emirates from Dublin to Dubai, and my flight was delayed by 3 hours and 35 minutes at departure and 3 hours and 2 minutes upon arrival. I believed this qualified me for €600 compensation under EU regulations, but Emirates has responded, stating I’m only entitled to €300. Has anyone else experienced this or can clarify why? Here is the response I got from them.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear _______,

Thank you for writing to us, I am sorry to read of the disruption caused to your travel plans.

Our records show that Emirates flight EK164 from Dublin to Dubai on 14 December 2024 experienced a delay of 3 hours and 35 minutes due to damage sustained to the aircraft. Although every effort is made to achieve on time departures, there are occasions when flights are delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. We will never compromise on the safety of our passengers and crew and our flights are only operated when it is safe to do so.

In Article 6 of EC regulation 261/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of the European Union, paragraph 1, section (c), you will note that the requirement for compensation is applicable when the arrival delay is equal to or exceeds 3 hours if the flight is longer than 3,500km. In Article 7, paragraph 2, section (c), if the actual arrival time of the flight does not exceed the scheduled arrival time of the flight by 4 hours, the operating air carrier may reduce the payment provided in paragraph 1 by 50%. Therefore, you are entitled to delayed flight compensation of EUR300.00 as full and final settlement of your claim.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Article 7 notes that the operating carrier can reduce the compensation provided by 50% if the passenger is offered re-routing or an alternative flight. I don't know what re-routing means, but we were all sat on the plane while the maintenance work was being done, and eventually departed to Dubai 3 hours and 35 minutes after the scheduled departure time. Am I missing something?

Dress code for EGHQ office

Hello all,

I’m going to be working at Emirates Group Head Quarters in one of the management teams for Dnata.

I’m coming from one of the big American aero companies with a very casual dress code.

Is there a particular dress code that Emirates/Dnata follows for office staff?

Is 8 hours enough time for Dubai Connect

I have the option of using the Dubai Connect program as I have an 8 hour stop in Dubai. I arrive 4:10am and leave at 12:10pm. What are your thoughts on the worth of going to a hotel or staying in the lounge?
