Emirates - Last name exceeds allowed 27 characters limit

I’m trying to book a ticket and ran it to an issue where last name exceeds allowed 27 characters ?

My last name is 31 characters ?

Is there a problem if I initialize the last name ?

I was locked in the restroom for all 30 minutes during landing

I was in first class going from dxb to syd and I scheduled a shower an hour before landing. Somehow they locked the doors on me prior to landing and I was stuck in the bathroom, after I showered, for about 30-40 minutes while we landed and taxied to the gate. They somehow lock all the bathroom doors remotely during this period.

The crew was apologetic but I didn’t even acknowledge them — I was pissed. My only regret is that I didn’t immediately complain and follow-up with Emirates directly.

My question is, what would have been offered as compensation if I complained immediately? Is there anything that could still be done?

Standby upgrade to business class?

Just asking this here because I’ve never tried this before or I don’t know if it’s possible, if I fly on a standby ticket and at the boarding gate or after the boarding can I pay for an upgrade to business class?

Benefits

Good evening, If not allowed, please let me know. Im asking that because in Florida is really common to "exchange " benefits. A lot people that work in the parks or hotel put people in the benefits. I am looking for someone who has access to discounted airline tickets or standby flights. My family and I will need to travel frequently and I’m interested in exploring options for obtaining these benefits. I used to benefit from a friend’s airline connections a long time ago, but unfortunately, he has since left the aviation industry. Is anyone interested in exchange or making a trade for such benefits? Thank you.

Immediate rejection from Emirates for Cabin Crew role

I applied for emirates cabin crew however, immediately after I applied I got an ‘automated email’ which was a rejection mail. Then a couple minutes later I received a confirmation email for the application. Is this a glitch in their system? Should I email them back?

Is Emirates getting worse?

In recent years I regularly fly abroad from the Netherlands for work. A lot to Asia and occasionally to the USA. I have flown with many major airlines and Emirates remains a favorite. Last year I flew with them about 7 times to Asia.

Until a while back I flew from Colombo back to Germany. It seemed like the service and aircraft (interior) really deteriorated. The seats don't stay upright anymore. The fold-out tables on the extra legroom points are just really gross. Cabin crew just literally falling asleep after landing and going up the gate.

Also, my girlfriend sat in a different seat, kindly asked if she could sit next to me (since I was alone in the whole row), but she was not allowed. Could only if I paid 135USD for the extra legroom. Note: I was returning home at the last minute, hence the different seats. And that while i'm a ' frequent flyer' for Emirates. All the seats were empty the whole flight on my row.

Outbound flight I had no problems with this. the A380 is clean and neat. Cabin crew was very friendly. But the return flight was really bad (Boeing 777), seemed like a low budget airline. On reflection, almost all B777 are just old inside, hope they get the A350 in their fleet soon. For now I will book with Qatar or Singapore Airlines. Too bad, because Emirates was always a high priority for me.

Had anybody had this experience also?

A380-800 Upper deck economy

Hello!

I will be on EK414 DXB -> SYD soon and was checking my Seat options. According to SeatGuru its an Airbus A380-800 (388) Two Class https://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Emirates_Airlines/Emirates_Airlines_Airbus_A380_Two_Class.php since Row 80 has a 3-0-3 layout.

So it should have an Upper deck Economy. But on the emirates website, I cant seem to switch to the upper deck. Is this a restriction or is there something I am missing?

Thanks!

Emirates rat toy

Hi this is sooo random, but I flew Emirates >10 years ago, and I was given this rat stuffed animal. It was super thin, white, and its feet had grey fur on the bottom, and I remember it came with clothes (not the rat puppet, although it may have been the stuffie version of the puppet???). Does anyone remember what it was called?? It was sooo cute and I wanna look at pictures of it. Thanks <3

Does baggage allowance 2pc include carry on luggage and personal bag?

I recently booked Emirates flight and it mentions 2 check in bag allowance of 50lb, so does that mean that I can get a carry on luggage and a backpack?

Does Emirates let it slide?

So last month i group booking a flight to Istanbul with transit in Dubai with 14 of my relatives. Just now, i realize that i made a small error with the naming as i add an extra letter. His last name is 'Jamal' but i accidentally put it 'Jammal. Will he be rejected if i don't join or Emirates will overlook this mistake? Thank you in advance for any information.

Toddler sleeping device allowed?

Hi all,

I've looked in this thread but could not find an answer yet. We're flying with Emirates in a couple of weeks and one of our neighbours adviced us to invest in a baby sleep device, something like the Stokke Jetkids. But now I read some articles about these things being disallowed by airlines. Does anyone has an experience with something like this lately? We're travelling together with our toddler that is 1,5 years old rn.

Thanks in advace.

What'd be a good gifts for cabin crew on your flight?

So for the last few years, I have been gifting the cabin crew Ferrero Rocher chocolates, or any other sweets that I could purchase from the country where I depart from (danish butter cookies from CPH, mozartkugel from VIE, Bateel from DXB etc). However nowadays it seems like most younger people are more health conscious and don't really eat sweets anymore, so I'm thinking of gifting something else. Besides if there are few other passengers who also bought them sweets, it will be too much for them.
Now I'm going to fly on Emirates A380 where there might be up to 30 cabin crew, so I need smthg that's not too big, cost less than $200, if it's something edible, preferably something that is individually wrapped/ packaged (like Ferrero Rocher).

Now wise Redditors, what's your suggestion ? Also, given that EK cabin crew are based in Dubai, do you think Bateel dates might be smthg that they would appreciate, or is it too common for them?

Thanks in advance.

p.s. Starbucks gift card might not be an option for me

Can I exceed 23kg on a single luggage bag with Emirates?

Hi all.

I am flying with Emirates soon and I’ve got the right to take 3 checked luggages of 23kg, and I am wondering if I am allowed to exceed 23kg on a single bag, as I’m not really willing to travel with 2+ checked baggages.

Many thanks.

Traveling as a same-sex couple

Hi guys! Wanted to come on here quickly and ask a question. Growing up I've always traveled on Qatar and Emirates and have always loved their Q-Suite and Business Class. I now am married and have a child, but I am gay. I grew up loving the Middle East as my parents would take my sister and I on vacations on the way to India. Was wondering if it would be an issue for me in the airports having a child and a husband. I come from a traditional Indian Family so PDA has always been a big no and I rarely even hold hands in public so none of that is a problem, I love the Middle East because everything is family-friendly. I care mostly for my child, and I hope it's not a problem that two men are going around with a child. Or would it be advisable for me to travel via Emirates since my family has more connections via Dubai? Or should I avoid it altogether, and fly via British Airways? That would suck, I love my middle eastern airlines. We Indians love the middle east.

No hate please, I am just asking around.

Travelling solo business class in old 777 layout (2-3-2) - should I book aisle or window seat?

Looking out of the window helps my fear of flying as I can see what’s going on more, but I would hate being trapped in if the passenger next to me had the seat flat sleeping, so I would take the aisle seat in that case - is it possible to get out of the window seat without disturbing the passenger next to me or not? I’d rather be disturbed by them needing to get out than vice versa

Do seats 68K and 81K have the entertainment system?

I'm 6'2, so I want the seats with extra leg room as well as a window. On their 3D view, I couldn't see the ICE console thing. Its my first time taking this seat. If anyone has had experience with this seat, please let me know.

Edit : Its an A380

Pillow and blanket

Just a random quick question… I don’t like using the blankets and I have never used the pillow.. I feel they just get in my way of potential foot space.. if I tell them I don’t want it, will they take them away?

Thanks!

Does a 19 month need to sit in a car seat?

Just booked for the end of the year on emirates. Only thing I want to know is do I need to strap my baby who will be around 19 month by then in a car seat? I have booked a separate seat for them. Or can I just have on my lap for take off and landing? Haven’t flown in a few years so I don’t know.

777-ER 46 B or 31 G

Hey, I’m flying on an Emirates Boeing 777-ER tomorrow with my spouse, and I’m stuck between two seat options—46 A/B or 31 F/G. The flight duration is about 5 hours.

I’m about 5'10" and on the heavier side. Is 46 B a good option? I’ve noticed there seems to be extra space by the side, but the armrest appears to be fixed, which might be a bit uncomfortable. For 31 F/G, there’s someone already in 31 D, but 31 E seems to be empty for now, so we might get a little more space.

Which option do you think would be better? Any advice?

Hi - will be flying business class on an A380-800 from JFK to DXB. What sort of internet capability can I expect/should prepare for? I’m happy to pay for the service the entire flight.

Thx very much!

Premium economy

I am looking at flying to SFO in December, around a 16 hour direct flight, weighing up the option of the new premium economy but just all the reviews don’t mention is it a better “sleep” than economy or is it the same feeling.

Cause reason I wouldn’t do economy is that I can never fall asleep in economy because of the position and the fact that it’s uncomfortable.

traveling with kids makes tickets more expensive!

Just a rant. Traveling with our son in some weeks our of BOS. Economy. Emirates charging extra to select seats together. Chatted with them, no guarantees they will sit us together at time of checking or within 48 hours of flight. Traveling with kids seems to be more expensive, or taxed!
