Does client device matter?

I'm using a chromecast with google tv, hardwired and getting like 250mb down. Should be fast enough for basically anything.

In this particular case I was playing a file that was 1080p but with a 7.1 audio track. It was buffering basically right from the get go. It's usually fine but I generally have media with 5.1 tracks or stereo. I know it's not a server issue because other users I have on the library don't have an issue.

I'll suck it up and buy an nvidia shield if it'll solve the issue, I was just really hoping the chromecast would be fine.

Can't get my new server to appear in Emby connect

Hey all
Hoping someone can give me a hint about how this is supposed to work...I've recently setup a new Emby server on faster hardware, and can connect successfully locally, however only the old server is shown after I login to emby connect. Is adding a second server allowed (didnt see anything to say otherwise, but you never know)? The ports are forwarded, according to the router & the server is definitely serving local clients, so I'm at a bit of a loss..

Where is mpv.conf located?

I am trying to get Emby client working on Windows 11. On one Windows 11 machine, it plays the audio to the default audio device, which is slightly inconvenient but at least it works. On two others it doesn't seem to be playing it at all.

Apparently you can choose the audio device manually by editing the mpv.conf file: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/70746-specify-audio-device/

But I cannot find the mpv.conf file:

    C:\Users\******\AppData\Roaming>dir mpv.conf /s
Volume in drive C is Local Disk
    Volume Serial Number is 989A-4AA0
    File Not Found

Is there still an mpv.conf file? Where is it located now?

Suggestions for plugins

Greetings, I'd like to share with you two ideas for plugins I have in mind. First, a plugin which shows, in home screen, movies or series randomly recomended. Second, a plugin which informs the users of future uploadings, as a "coming soon" feature.

Do you think those are possible?

I think it's a good idea.

Why is so hard to watch live tv with Emby?

One of the reasons I bought Emby's premiere is because I wasn't happy with the IPTV players I tried. But then, I found it impossible to configure Emby. Why the hell only using the m3u is not enough? I tried all possible plugins and services and nothing worked - one or other was so confusing that I gave up trying to figure out how to do it, others don't work on Windows, etc...

I went to the settings, Live TV, added the m3u address, the epg, and the channels load, but when I try to watch I get a "Playback Error Forbidden" message.

EDIT: Thanks to u/bravoland there's a solution: Using m3u4u.com Easy and simple.

4k rips and Dolby vision issue

I have about 10 4k rips of films that I own on my Nas which are Dolby vision films, some of them play correctly and trigger Dolby vision, however some do not and just trigger standard HDR, they show up with in emby as Dolby vision but 1917, Jaws, Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning and Top Gun: Maverick play as standard HDR which is quite annoying, does anyone know why this might happen ?

Thanks.

Edit: I'm using a fire cube on my LG oled.

Edit2: After some goggling I think it might be an issue with films encoded with DV and HDR10+, going to experiment and find out.

Music scanning issues

Any reason why I can never get all my music to scan in. Everything is tagged and folder correctly Artist>Year>Album. I have 38 albums that I'm testing on and only 35 of 38 scan in. All albums I have tagged the same way same program etc all permissions are the same but emby refuses to see all 38 what gives emby...btw Plex musicbee and jellyfin doesn't have a problem and sees all my albums.

Emyb web requires Emby premier on LG TV browser

Hi there! I'm running my Emyby server on my NAS server. It works very well in the browser on my phone and computer, but when i try to connect to it from my LG TV, it requires Emby premier to play any playback.

I've read the Emby Premier Feauture matrix, and it says, that Full Playback is free on LG TVs specifically, but it still promts me to buy Emby premier on my TV.

So I would like to ask if there is any solution, please?

Also, i know theres Emby app for TVs, but I'd like to access it from my TVs browser.

Thx for any idea.

Device Limited (premier)

I have embi premiere and probably five or six family members on my server as well.

I was flipping through the dashboard today just looking at all the settings and it said that I was close to my device limit?

I've only ever logged in on 3 or 5 devices, do all of my families devices count towards my device limit also?

That kind of seems ridiculous to put a limit on devices honestly in my opinion.

Removing 4K search results

I am on an Emby server where 4K transcoding is disabled, however I still get shown 4K viewing options when I search for a title

For example will do a search, three results will pop up for every stream with the same images, two of which will be 4k and one might be 1080 - I have to take a random guess as to which one is going to work (I almost always choose badly :) - Then get the '4k transcoding not allowed' popup.

I wondered if there was an option for 4k options to not be shown at all in results? I cant find anything

Is using someone else's Emby safe?

I'm using a shield that's connected to my home internet (obviously)

My question is if I have a access to someone else's Emby, is there a vulnerability to my home network?

Could some nefarious person gain access to my network via a shared Emby account?

Stop Collections from playing Theme.mkv vids in the backdrops folder?

Hi all,

Got a weird one. When I play a collection, it will play the first movie in the collection but if I select the next movie, it plays the theme.mkv movie in the backdrops folder and then craps out with an error. Anyway to have Emby ignore the theme.mkvs in the backdrops folder when playing a movie collection? This makes all my Collections useless.

Thanks for the help!

UPDATE: Emby support confirmed this is a bug that will be fixed in 4.9!

S3 or Gluster for File Storage

I'm starting to accumulate too much data to store it all on one physical server. For this reason, I'm looking for a way to distribute it across multiple servers.

The options I am considering are:

  1. Garage S3 - I tested this with an s3fs mount. The problem is that s3fs caches data on the emby server and eventually fills the disk. Writing also seems pretty slow. I was thinking about testing rclone but not sure this would be any better.
  2. Gluster - I also set this up for testing. Seems better. Haven't noticed it really ca,ching anything and the speed seems better (although I haven't tested it for more than an hour or so).

Just thought other people might have gone down this road before and might have some wisdom to share.

Not Sure What Triggered Google Play Refund

Tried searching before posting. I purchased the unlock through the android tv app last week and all was good. Today I get an email from Google Play saying my purchase has been cancelled and refunded, but I didn't request any of that. Does anyone know what might trigger this?

New to emby and a few questions

Okay so my previous Plex NAS has packed up and I'm going to swap my library to emby. I only need it to stream on my local network now, so buying a proper NAS setup seems a little overkill. I have a solid gaming PC, ryzen 3900x and a 3070ti with 32GB of DDR4 RAM but I don't have the HDD space on my pc. Can I host the emby server on my pc or an NVIDIA shield with a 5TB WD black external HDD as the storage for the libraries and still have it all run smoothly? It won't be 4k streaming so that's not really relevant. I know I should consider RAID or unRAID, but I already have backups of most of my library from where I managed to save everything from my previous NAS to a couple of smaller drives.

So basically can I run it all on the pc and a WD Black external, or is there something else i should look at?

Audio Passthrough Issue: Emby Add-on with Kodi and Old Home Theater System

I'm currently using the ff. setup:

  • Samsung 5.1-channel home theater system with only AC3 and optical audio port

  • Xiaomi Mi Player (Android system with Kodi and Emby Add-on) with optical audio port and connected to the local network via ethernet cable

  • Samsung 32" TV with HDMI

The videos come from an Emby server in a Windows 10 PC in the same local network.

I connected the TV to the player using HDMI, and then the player to the HTS using optical audio.

I then used the ff. settings:

Android system in player: sound preferences to S/PDIF.

Kodi audio settings:

Set to default. No. of channels - 5.1 Stereo upmix - on Passthrough - turned on all

Emby add-on playback settings:

Transcode audio: turned on all except for AC3

Transcode output format - output format audio: ac3.

That means Kodi passes through the audio and Emby does the transcoding, right?

I tested it using two sample videos with AAC-LC and HE-AAC 5.1-channels and the sound came out loud and correctly.

However, when I watch a video and decide to fast forward a few minutes, Kodi jumps forward more minutes, and similar happens when I fast rewind.

Is there a way to fix this problem?

I tried it the other way round--let Kodi transcode (set the audio to default or 2.0 channel and let only ac3 pass through) with nothing for transcoding turned on in the addon, and no sound comes from the subwoofer. But there's no skipping problem when I fastforward or fast rewind.

Finally, when I set the Kodi audio to 5.1-channel, sound from the subwoofer comes out but the sound from all channels is softer.

Question about ‘Up Next’

I love the way the ‘Up Next’ feature counts down to the end of the episode, and the button that lets you play the next episode.

I don’t like things automatically playing as I fall asleep to it and wake up with loads of episodes played.

Is there a way to make the ‘Up Next’ feature still pop up so I can manually skip to the next one, but without it automatically playing?

I have my settings correct but it no longer appears…

Has anyone ever cataloged their video collection into a spread sheet?

I have a collection of over 3000 movies and about 120 complete TV series. I would like to catalog these in a spread sheet breaking them down by NAME, DATE, RESOLUTION, HDR-SDR-DV, RUNNING TIME, etc.

All of this information exist within Emby's database, but is there and easy way to export it into a .CSV file or something similar? I can fairly easily cut and paste movie titles from the various library folders, but it seems I would have to manually enter the rest of the data.

Transcoding Issues with Emby on Raspberry Pi 5 and LG TV

Hi everyone,

I'm running an Emby server on a Raspberry Pi 5, and I've been experiencing issues playing content on an LG TV (model 47LB650V-ZN). I have another TV in a different house that connects to the server without problems, and even my phone (on the same Wi-Fi as the LG TV) can play the content flawlessly. However, when trying to play directly on the LG TV, I get the following error:

After reaching out to Emby support, they suggested that the issue might be due to the Raspberry Pi 5's limited ability to handle more than two simultaneous HD transcodes.

Setup Details:

  • Server: Raspberry Pi 5, connected via Ethernet.
  • Emby app: Updated on both the server and the LG TV.
  • Video formats: H.264 files won't play, but H.265 works fine (even though this TV technically doesn't support H.265).

What I’ve Tried So Far:

  • Playing content directly (Direct Play) on other devices works fine.
  • Ensuring the LG TV app and server are updated.
  • Testing files in multiple formats (MP4 container, H.264, AAC audio).

I suspect the issue might also involve the LG TV's ability to process transcoded streams or the server's limitations.

My Questions:

  1. How can I fix this?
  2. Has anyone else faced similar issues with Raspberry Pi 5 handling transcodes?
  3. Could there be additional configurations on the LG TV app I’m missing?
  4. Is there an option to enable hardware acceleration in my Raspberry Pi 5 configuration?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Best Handbrake Settings?

Hi all

I don't want to kick off a huge thread here but I've never really settled on settings for Handbrake. I'm basically trying to find the best settings for DVDs (576 x 720) so Emby can just direct stream and not have to convert while/before playing.

I am trying to find the best quality for both video and sound and encode as MKV. I've attached my current preset, can someone please have a look a recommend any changes?

Anime Pluggin?

Is there a simple anime pluggin for taking metadata from anidb or mal/anilist? all the built in metadata scanners dont really work for my shows and imdb id's arent helping

EDIT: I followed the naming scheme recommended by emby and i had found it was because i had selected "TV Shows" instead of "Mixed Media" which solved my problem as only movies werent working properly before

Spotify Car Thing Like Device for PC

I think the title gives a pretty clear indicator of what I'm looking for here.

Some context, I work from home and use Emby theater on my work PC to play music pretty much all of the time when I'm not on calls (and even sometimes when I am on calls). This works out nicely because then my headphones are already connected to the PC and ready to go whenever I get a random pop up call throughout the day.

I like being able to keep an eye on Emby to see what's playing and what's next, as well as adjust the Emby specific volume. But that's not necessarily a deal breaker.

My keyboard has some basic controls like volume up and down, but that is the master volume and there is no skip/play/pause button for those random pop up calls. I feel like if I had full media controls this might not even be an issue.

So what inspired this post/question is that I've seen videos of dudes using the old (now defunct) Spotify Car thing mounted somewhere near their monitor to be able to see and control there music. Does anyone know of anything like that I could use for Emby?

I was thinking maybe a macropad with a display, or some kinda mini touchscreen monitor I can move the Emby window into?

Also open to other suggestions? A good keyboard or some other similar way to get better control that I'm not thinking of?

I know I could just use my phone running the Emby app on the desk, but my phone is a source of a lot of distractions while I'm trying to work. So ideally not having it in front of me is probably better. LoL 😅
