At first I thought that was Ventoy's fault. Tried Rufus. Tried Etcher. Then I re-downloaded ISO. Then I turned off Secure Boot. Then I tried different USB stick and port. Then I installed Ubuntu and tried from there. Literally same result. I'm running out of ideas. Any help, please?
Coming from KDE plasma and other distros,im on a journey in finding a good distribution, now I do know that Elementary is not really customizable and is much like Apple, but I come from iOS. What I am looking for is a distro that is stable, has Long Term Support,is smooth, and an easy app install process.
I’m new to this Linux distro. I just installed it on an only iMac (07). I wanted to download a new browser but when I click on the links from google, I’m met with the error 400 code. Now it very well could be i just need to finish updating. Im currently on a wired connection (I tried using WiFi and it acknowledges the connection but just keeps attempting to connect without actually doing so)
Current specs are 4gb ram and core 2 processor. I went with this because it’s supposed to be light and easy to run on older models.
i started to use eos during the covid and i was impressed to the core , then shifted to windows again when eos 7.1 released as it didnt bring any good changes , being a noobie to the linux community i was continuously ditro hopping thinking that it would decrease my productivity i changed to windows , now i am eageerly waiting for the release of eos 8 that i can completely shift to that
Thank you
Well,
I guess it's no surprise. My favorite wallpaper changer, wallch refuses to run under EoS v8.0 (Ubuntu 24.02 LTS). Or, I'm not smart enough to make it run.
I'm looking for a tool to rotate wallpaper images from a LOCAL folder (not downloaded from the interwebs). Key here is local. Everything I'm finding wants to download images. I've got a couple of thousand wallpaper images I've collected over the years. Don't want/need any more.
Any thoughts?
thanks
I forget the thread we had about lacking upgrade paths but this is related. I have eOS as a pc for my kids so i spent the afternoon updating from 7.1 to 8.0 RC
I know some people won't want to do this and i had more trouble compared to updating debian but it works fine now that I'm all updated. you'll need to be able to understand the deb packages and why things fail if you have issues.
Next time I'll try just installing over the top of my current install.
I'm trying to install 7.1 and every time I run the installer it fails due to partition issues. In that failure it has wiped my drive so I now don't have an OS. I then try to set the partitions manually in gparted but I have a lvm2 partition taking up all but 256mb of my drive. Not sure what to do next
I'm quite new to Elementary OS and would love any recommendations on how I might tighten the security of my installation. I've dabbled in Linux many times over the years and sometimes have had my hands dirty with this kind of thing, diving into securing my distro a bit, but it's been a while so I'm way out of touch with even easy steps.
Hi! I am trying to install eOS to my dev pc where I got system on RAID SSD for performance reasons (I work with OE/yocto build system) and I facing issue with the io.elementary.installer does not list the /dev/mapper/* devices and partitions. Even when I manually do the partprobe, I can normally mount and access the RAID disk but the installer has only like physical devices in it.
Would by possible to somehow install it to the RAID device? I can do it manually if that's possible.
Thanks for any suggestions.
EDIT:
Found this issue: https://github.com/elementary/installer/issues/598
Have been having this problem since ubuntu upgrade,I have to force quit it then logout and login again to work without any issues..
Hey there,
I have been trying to get Nvidia drivers working on my install. However, installing them via the appcenter (I specifically tried 535, 545 and 550) does not result in anything, while installing the packages via apt results in a system breaking situation where apt gets stuck due to dependency issues with nvidia-dkms.
Does anyone know if this is a known problem and if so how to fix it?
Thank you very much
Does anyone know of an expanded elementary-styled icon theme for third-party apps that follows or at least comes close, the standard elementary OS designer style?
elementary OS 8 is—effectively—finished and available for you to download right now in Early Access!
I want to make a bootable usb of windows for my secondary laptop and I cannot find a way to install Balena etcher, I have tried the app store, I tried using the terminal but it doesn't work, how can I install it?
The main computer was running on Windows, while the second one was running on Pop OS. While waiting for the Cosmic version from System76, I switched to Elementary, and everything works perfectly. I would like to check out Elementary OS 8 as soon as possible.

Can anyone confirm whether the Monitor application will come by default in elementary 8?

Please help me!!
When I run the elementary OS on raspberry pi, a screen like this appears and I can't proceed!!
I'm in trouble. Please tell me how to solve it!!
I've been using elementary os since os5. and have been a loyal elementaryos user. I use it as my daily driver and have been using it for coding and stuff on my main laptop.
I can't wait for os8. does anybody know when os8 is releasing?
Hi!
Anyone was successful in synchronize Notes Up note with another apps in another devices?
I'm currently using arch linux, but to be honest, the last time I used elementaryos, I was very impressed. elementaryos's ui design is just beautiful! Unfortunately, the animations are not as rich as in kde. I wonder if it's improved now?
Also, ubuntu is now following the mainline linux kernel, which means maximum compatibility with new hardware. will elementaryos8 be the same as ubuntu?
Firstly, apologies for the really stupid question.
I have used elementaryos for quite a few years and have accumulated a very long list of applications - some I use regularly and some were just to try out. I'm going to bite the bullet and upgrade to the latest version. I am a bit OCD and want to make sure I have kept all the apps I want going ahead.
So..is there a simple way to get a listing of all installed applications (curated and non-curated)?
Thanks
