I would recommend all of you to watch the movie “The Battle of Algiers“. It is not only a classic but also an accurate depiction of a liberation struggle, anti-colonial resistance, and guerrilla warfare. This film was widely watched by Tamil militants and even endorsed by the Tamil leadership.

Today Tamils celebrated Sooran Porr at Nallur. It’s the re-enactment of the Battle of Lord Murugan and Soorapathman. According to legend, Lord Murugan defeated the demon Soorapathman (Sooran) and his army with the sacred Vel (lance) given to him by his mother.

Discussion: Future of Eelam/Eelam Politics

Hey, This is an point of view from a Indian Tamil. I am curious what would be the future of Eelam in next 40/50 years.

Would people advocating for regional political power or complete independence would advocate for the same in next 10 years?

Would Tamils in eelam, give up on their demand for independence state due to economic and educational constraints.

I am asking this because we can't keep going on dragging the future and present generation into economic hardships.

Would Indian tamils really care about eelam tamils or just show sympathy?

My take: I witnessed Indian tamils showing true sympathy while some people just fake it out or show sympathy just to resonate with the masses.

People here take pride about tamil tigers but aren't informed about eelam history or struggle.

They don't care about the entire history.

This happens for these reasons:

  1. It doesn't affect them directly
  2. They are more concerned into family issues and wellness they aren't in position to read and learn things
  3. Our generation faces more use of English language over native language and feel it's cool to speak in english rather than in tamil
  4. No proper understanding about politics both state and union politics.
  5. More towards Ideological inclination rather than analystical thinking.

People here are more interested in earning well, living a good life (which isn't wrong tbh). Because it's your life and you are responsible about it.

The above point applies everywhere tbh.

Hope they just show the same concern and excitement in learning our own history.

The Orders Were to Rape You (2021) by Meena Kandasamy is a powerful examination of sexual violence as a weapon of war, highlighting the horrific experiences of Tamil women during the genocide. She exposes how the Sri Lankan army used systematic rape as a weapon.

My fellow Eelam Tamils, how are we feeling about the US election?

Honestly, I'm really pessimistic about the whole thing.

As we all know, the Democrats under Clinton and Obama were complicit in the genocide against us. First, Bill Clinton declared the LTTE a terrorist organization after they attacked US commercial interests and refused to renounce armed resistance against the Sri Lankan government. Under Obama, the US turned a blind eye to the war crimes being committed in the final stages of the war, especially at Mullivaikkal. Then, Obama-era diplomats were caught in leaked cables being aware of massive war crime violations but urging the gov't to ignore them for financial and geopolitical reasons.

However, the Republicans under Bush contributed quite a bit to the Sri Lankan Army's atrocities against Tamils as well. As part of the 'war on terror', Bush allied with the Sri Lankan gov't against the Tamils, demanding the LTTE renounce armed resistance, abandon the demand for a separate state, and commit to a full disarmament in exchange for the US government considering removing them from the Terrorist organizations list. In addition, under Bush's administration, noted war criminal Gotabaya Rajapaska was granted US citizenship, and the commander of the Mullivaikkal massacre Gen. Fonseka was granted a green card.

I really don't like Kamala and the Democrats due to their stance on Palestine and their willingness to align themselves with the Cheney family and Bush's relatives. However, Trump is such a wild card, and quite frankly, I could see him going either way.

The best case scenario is that whoever's elected ignores Sri Lanka as a country since it doesn't matter as much in relation to the US government's current geopolitical interests. The worst case scenario could include more funding to the Sri Lankan gov't to combat terror (i.e. abuse Tamils).

Enemy Lines: Warfare, Childhood and Play in Batticaloa’ (2007) by Margaret Trawick. For anyone interested in understanding how Tamils and the Tamil Tigers navigated life in Sri Lanka's Eastern Province during the war, this book is a true treasure.

November is a very important month. The month when we commemorate all the sacrifices made by our martyrs. We are already cleaning up our cemeteries & preparing for Maaveerar Naal. This is rare footage of what the cemeteries looked like in 1995."

Why don’t Eelam Tamils lobby/build solidarity for themselves in political parties of India ?

I’m a North Indian, who has been reading about history of Eelam and Tamils’ struggle for a safe, dignified & sovereign space for themselves.

Since Eelam Tamils have been lobbying in Canadian political parties, why don’t they try to reach out to Indian ones and try to build a support for themselves?

I’m saying since the actual genocide of Hindus, which did happen, was one in Sri Lanka, of 1.69 lakh Tamil Hindus in 2009 apart from mass rapes, murders, forced disappearances & systematic persecution before it for decades, at the hands of a Sinhalese-Buddhist fascist state intent on genocide to establish island as a Buddhist nation— destroying Hindu temples to build Viharas & Stupas to let it known.

Given the political environment in India rn, won’t highlighting this point along w Eelam Tamil’s conviction to Saivism in France, Switzerland and wherever they are might lead to genuine support online from Hindu RW groups, which might seep into real life sympathy too ?

Religion is a great tool of subversion after all.

PS : I’m opposed to RSS/BJP and its agenda of Hindutva, but as a well wisher, feel that Eelam Tamils have a lot to gain if they clinch the opportunity, reach out on Twitter etc, distance themselves from Dravidian politics of TN (since I feel Eelam Tamils get coupled w TN Tamils) & embrace realism.

17 years have passed since S.P. Thamilselvan was assassinated by Sri Lankan forces. Following Balasingham's demise, he became the voice of the Tamil Nation. Once a steadfast commander and, until his last breath, a courageous leader, he fought unconditionally for the rights and dignity of his people.
