Community events

I recently saw this TikTok about this lady who made a pistachio cake for a gaint cake picnic. A bunch of people came together to share different cakes they made. I thought it was so cool. I want to take part in more community events, but I really don't know were to start. I am quite good at baking and cooking. Does anyone need help with any events this December?

Buying a car update

A few weeks ago I posted here asking for advice on buying a secondhand car. My budget was R87 000, but it shifted to max R100 000. After much research, I've been seriously considering a Toyota Etios, more specifically this one https://www.autotrader.co.za/car-for-sale/toyota/etios/xs/27707207?vf=2&db=1&s360=0&so=1&pl=1&pq=0&pr=3&po=1

It has a full service history, 174 000 km mileage, and according to the dealership, no accidents...

I know Toyota has a high theft rate, but I'm willing to tata ma chance, I also know the mileage is quite high, but I'm trusting toyota with that, my budget also doesn't allow for a super low mileage... Anyone willing to share some advice as to whether or not this will be a good purchase? Has anyone dealt with the dealership, can I trust them?

Edit: People are already saying I shouldn't buy the car, so here's other options I was looking at. Just don't know anything about these dealerships...

Toyota Aygo: https://www.autotrader.co.za/car-for-sale/toyota/aygo/wild/27671132?vf=2&db=1&s360=0&so=1&pl=1&pq=0&pr=5&po=1

Water

Is anyone else also experiencing bad diarrhea from drinking the water? I have had this for months now and so has my daughter and we couldn't figure out what the problem is (doctors just treat the symptoms 🙄). And then someone suggested it could be our water. I have just bought bottled water so I will see if that is the issue but is this an issue for others as well?

Where to live? Advice needed.

Hey folks, where's a good place to stay? I need to move to Durban from Cape Town, working at King Edward Hospital, and have no idea where to live that is reasonably close to the hospital. I have a car, but don't like driving too far or traffic. Good vibes and connectivity would be great.

What's a good place to live that won't break the bank or involve driving more than 30 minutes one direction? All I know about Durban was staying along the beach in a hotel near Ushaka some time ago, and passing through there from the airport.

Diabetes

Hi Guys

Does anyone know where I could buy insulin pens in Durban? Specifically Actriphid and Protophane. The government hospitals have now mostly been giving the vials and syringe which I hate using. Not sure if pharmacies sell the pens though.

For those who have vasectomy, which doctors would you recommend. Money wise how expensive is it? And the pain, how bad is it?

Free dental clinic that don't charge at all

Urgently looking for a dentist to remove a rotten tooth and deep clean. I don't have money for an appointment or other procedures. Is there a dental clinic in the city or surrounding the Glenwood area that wont charge me for anything?

I’ve been on numerous marches spreading the word of this unjust war on Ukraine.

I want to take it to the next level and offer my money, services or time to this cause.

Does anybody know how I can do this?

Looking to try sailing

I (52M) have always wanted to learn to sail but have never had the opportunity to do so. I have a recurring fantasy of spending my retirement years cruising around the world - but of course have no idea what that would actually look like.

I am wanting to spend a day on a yacht with an experienced cruiser, just to see what it's like before I sign up for a course, I'm happy to pay for the experience. I have Googled but not really found much. Anyone know of such an opportunity?

Thanks

Reputable rat breeders in Upper Highway Area?

Hi all

I'm looking to adopt a pet rat but can't seem to find any reputable breeders in my area. Range is Botha's Hill to about Westville, don't think I'd be able to travel any further than that. Pet stores are a last option, as they are seldom ethically bred there.

If anyone knows of any good breeders or pet stores that source ethically please let me know

Domestic Worker wages

What is the going rate for domestic workers these days and how many hours per day do they normally get employed for?

Is transport included in that wage or paid as extra on top? And it's standard for lunch to be provided right?

Just hired a new lady and she is incredible and want to make sure we are paying her well.

Leather/shoe repair shops

Howzit all. I have a pair of leather boots that had some parts made out of fake leather and some scuffs and cuts in some places on the real leather, as well as terrible plastic soles.

The fake leather has started to peel quite badly and I can't repair the cuts in the regular leather myself so I was wondering if anyone knew of any shops that do leather work or can help replace the faux leather without costing an arm and a leg. I could still in theory do the soles myself but if it isn't too badly priced then I may also look into it.

The boots are cheaper (I think like R1000 brand new) so if it ends up costing too much to have them fixed, I'll rather just buy a new pair. I just hope I can get them fixed for less than what they cost because aside from the peeling faux leather and scuffs and cuts around the real leather, they do have quite a lot of life left in them.

If it's pricey to fix the faux leather and have new soles done, then I'll rather just continue wearing them with the damage done to the real leather.

Any suggestions for shops that can assist me would be highly appreciated 👏.
