Did anyone else get to see the fireworks from Chinese Garden?😄
Is there anywhere in Dunners that you can go go-karting? I can't spot anything online, but that would also surprise me a little bit if it were the case! TIA :)
Would anyone have a Chromebook charger I could borrow for a night or two? I've just moved back and have left my charger back in Northland 🙃 Mine will be mailed to me by Tuesday evening, but classes start Monday morning. Thanks for your consideration ✌️
I am thinking about buying a new build from the developer TCG Homes and was wondering if their is anybody on this sub that has lived in one of their home? I am wanting to know what the build quality is like, what you liked about building with them and what you didn't etc
New world? Pak n save? Some deli? None of the above?
I think they're going to cancel the new build, and refurb the old one.
My second guess is a private hospital company from overseas will take half ownership of the new build. Privatisation.
Looking for a quality bite to eat in Dunedin for an out of towner. Food wise, what’s the best?
Edit: Thanks for all the responses, looking forwards to giving them all a try
I'm looking to get a couple of tattoos, one of which will be a memorial sort of tattoo for my frog who passed away recently. I would love it to be quite realistic and done in colour. Any suggestions of who might be good at this specific type of style in Dunedin?
Hi everyone,
Hope it's ok to post as I guess you probably get a lot of these kinds of posts. ;-)
Our family of 5 is looking to relocate to the greater Dunedin District and looking for some insight from locals as to pros and cons of different areas. We currently live in the Auckland region but are originally from Europe.
We are all set job-wise (remote job + SAHM) so thats not a concern. We live a pretty slow lifestyle and all we really need is plenty of nature and a lovely community :) We generally consider both areas close to town as well as more rural. We are planning to buy our first home in the area.
Many thanks in Advance for all tips and thoughts on different locations :)
Anyone have any recommendations for a weekly cleaning service? Little one on the way and thinking we will need some help with bathrooms and dusting etc for the first few months. Cheers
A bit random but was thinking about this this morning
As a kid growing up here we would climb harbour cone (a bit pointless lol see what I did there), go sandboarding at sandfly bay and explore the back end of Peninsula..
Then on the other side of the harbour go rock climbing behind our farm up to Geary's Rock, there's a couple of beaches just the locals seem to visit..
what else is out there?
Hey all, wondering if anywhere in dunedin there is an E waste place where one could go to buy old defunct technology - laptops, cameras, etc. The op shops are pretty lacking in anything other than useless kitchen devices in my experience. I know a lot of cities have these shops but haven’t heard about any in dunedin and cant find any clear recommendations online.
Does anyone know where I could buy some roofing tiles. I have an ex-state house and need to replace a couple on my roof. Thanks.
New to Dunedin, any recommendations of local roasters for coffee beans for filter/pour over coffee, as well as coffee beans for espresso?
Thanks
Bonus tips if you know an idea of the cost.
I have no idea where or how to start.
My knowledge so far is to avoid public trust.
Thanks!
Already posted this to r/newzealand, hopefully you guys can provide some more region-specific advice.
So I am studying abroad at University of Otago from this February to June, and I am planning on buying and reselling a cheap car so I can get around the island easier. I have done a lot of research, and have decided on purchasing from a dealer as opposed to private party to reduce the chances of getting a lemon and the CGA protections.
I was shopping around, and noticed that the highly rated HVS motors Dunedin (link) has transitioned to an all-online model, where you purchase, they ship to you, and you have a 7 day trial period to drive the car with free returns. In this article, it seems that this move to online allows them to price cars cheaper than they could otherwise, which leads to some very attractive deals for my price bracket (<$6-7k) (example).
Does anyone here have any experience buying from HVS online or a similar model? Or any other advice for cheap used car dealerships in the Dunedin area? Cheers
I’m looking for a skilled arborist to do an overhaul of a protected tree on our property. Anyone had experience in this situation?
Moved to Dunedin from Hamilton and looking for a decent old school gym... took a short term membership at Snap but honestly the amount of thumb warriors tapping on their phones has just pissed me off.
Any recommendations for a body building or old school gym? Come from Iron House in Hamilton & looking for something similar.
As per title, want to take my evo in for a service and would like some recommendations for best place to go. Cheers!
This seems absolutely insane. It's insulting to position our museums as mere attractions designed to generate tourist income (which invariably drops off with the last cruise ship). They're part of the heart of our community – places to discover who we are and where we come from, to escape the weather, and where our kids can go to learn about their world. We already fund these spaces through taxes, so why this sudden demand for extra fees? Obviously, the easy answer is 'because there's not enough'; but why not?
But this isn't just about money. Our museums are facing a crisis: burnout and a toxic work environment are driving away talented staff. Instead of addressing this, those in positions of power seem content to pile more responsibilities onto those who remain. Meanwhile, precious resources are being diverted to pet projects while even the core functions of our museums atrophy.
This is unacceptable. Our museums deserve better.
Yes, the museums need a serious overhaul — but not to squeeze us or our visitors for more cash. The competency and decisions of higher management, the growing problem of workplace hostility, and the crushing workload on the ever dwindling number of shoulders needs to be seriously and comprehensively looked into. The sooner the better.
Before long, we may end up being deprived not only of free access to our museums, but as we continue to lose conservators, archivists, and countless other facilitators who truly believe in the purpose and meaning of their work, we risk losing the very treasures themselves.
