I am trying to make a bat file but cat remember the commands for the project.
I would like to print using echo Type in you ip address Then remember the IP address Then run the command Ipaddres port Done So I can play games over a net work and have a simple script to load the network simulator
I installed DOSBox version 0.74-3 in Windows 11 Pro 64-bit (23H2, build 22631.4169) on a brand new ASUS Zenbook laptop. I made no changes or customizations to DOSBox. When I run it, I get the usual black window and also the small white window in the screenshot attached to this message. No text appears in the white window. Both windows quit after 3 seconds. Rebooting made no difference.
(I created the orange bands to mask the desktop icons.)
Any suggestions for solving this?
Howdy ;) I have a question about customizing DosBox.
Are we able to easly modify this "welcome screen"?
I am in the PC-98 mode (and I need it this way for what I am running)
I am willing to even build one from scratch with some documentation.
i am also thinkiThank you for any reply in advance and sorry if it's too stupid of a question.
My dad was reminiscing about his old IBM luggable the other day, so I thought it would be fun to try emulating IBM PC DOS Version 2.10, so he can play around in it.
Everything is set up and working great, however if I run BASIC, the interpreter doesn't load up, it just seems to hang indefinitely.
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience emulating BASIC on DOS and has a potential fix?
Really sucks because that is what my dad spent most of his time doing in the '80s!
Other info:
Running DOSBox 0.74-3 on Windows 11 Pro
I have enabled VT-x and disabled HyperV (not sure if that makes a difference for DOSBox)
I have tried several other disk images I have found online, as well as with VirtualBox, but I seem to get the same behaviour on all of them when I try to run BASIC
I am simply running with the OS in A:, then running BASIC, and then it just hangs with a flashing cursor
I get the same behaviour when running BASICA
Hi, I'm entirely new to Dosbox (I apologize for any technical illiteracy) and was looking for a way to run either Deluxe paint 2.30 or Autodesk Animator. I have them as .7z, and I've mounted a folder and drive for them, but it won't let me run them. I can't find any .exe or application files either, so I don't know how to run them. If anyone is familiar with the programs, I would greatly appreciate any and all help on what it takes to get them running. Thanks!
I'm on a windows vista and I'm trying to get fallout 1 to run on dosbox, I'm experiencing two problems, whenever I start the installation for fallout 1 I can barely click on the install button as my mouse sensitivity is to high, and second when I can click on it, it says no drives found. Any solutions?
Need help with Descent 2 in DOSBox Staging
I have GOG’s copy of Descent 2, and despite looking up several tutorials I cannot get DOSBox Staging to load it up.
I tried creating a batch file, and mounting the game’s iso (GOG’s copy is called DESCENT_II.gog) but it doesn’t work. Perhaps DOSBox Staging doesn’t recognize GOG’s files?
Here’s my batch file:
@echo off
imgmount d H:\DOS\DESCENT_II.gog -t cdrom
d:
descent2.exe
c:
mount -u d
cls
When I try to mount the image, Staging says “the image must be on the host or local drive.” The executables are in GOG’s folder, but when I try to run them it says “Cannot find a CD-ROM drive”. Do I need to somehow convert GOG’s files for Staging to recognize it?
I’m brand new to DOSBox Staging, and am generally terrible with command lines, but I am trying to learn. Thanks for any and all help!
EDIT:
Okay, I got it working, thanks for everyone’s help!
Fucked if I know. Could be a Dosbox Pure issue, Could be a Retroarch Issue. All I know is that I follow the directions posted, and the outcome is that most games will pop up, but the controls are so out of whack that I am unable to start the game. The games I have tried are all DOS games from the early to mid 90s. The one's I am nostalgic for. Nothing overboard. Most of the other games I play on this device are far more advance than any of these. I get controller drift when I turn on the digital keyboard to try and hit enter.
One game I tried, seemed to be going well. Was able to use the right analog as a mouse, but it only seemed to work on the first screen shot, when the game goes to the next page, I still need to use the analog mouse, but it's frozen and doesn't work.
I just don't get it. I read the amberelec instructions, I hunt for other instructions that end up being the same thing, but I wasted the whole day trying to get this working. I'm frustrated because the directions do not work. I tried it several ways, sometimes changing a step, thinking maybe I just interpreted the directions wrong, but nope. A complete waste of time.
Ubuntu 24.04
Z:>imgmount c ~/dos/ef2kse/EF_DIR.cue -t iso -fs iso -freesize 700
The image must be on a host or local drive
As soon as I remove freesize then it works but when i don’t have free size then later when trying to run the program
Z:>C:
C:>insthd
(GUI) Sorry, not enough space on any drive, about 61mb required
C:>install
(GUI) Sorry, not enough space on any drive, about 7mb required
and i haven’t been able to fix it, mostly because the other errors were either windows or autoexec (which i’m not using either currently)
Getting frustrated.. almost done with the 1st step of my project and now my iso will not mount...
[autoexec]
imgmount 0 win98c.img -t floppy -fs none
imgmount 2 windows98.img -size 512,63,255,522 -t hdd -fs none
imgmount D Windows_Drivers.iso -t iso -ide 2m
pause
boot c:
Loads the image..
No CDrom...
My games are going to load from E but it drops back to D because the cdrom is not loading.
(Anyway to make this mount as "E:")
mount E: "/DOS Games/
Says E_Drive...but mounts at D:....
Thanks in advance
Hi Everyone,
I have been trying for weeks to set the mouse sensitivity in dosbox. Normally you can do this in the conf file, and that works fine. But i need the start the game with an sh file because i also need a special program to start so that i can map de joystick of my 'controller' to use as a mouse in CIV.
I have tried so many things i cant mention them all, but opening the conf file from the sh file, or setting the sensitivity in the sh file as examples. they all didnt work.
(this looked hopefull, but i cant get it to work:
https://www.reddit.com/r/dosbox/comments/lrcqid/change_mouse_sensitivity_from_command_line/
)
here is my working sh file:#!/bin/bash
sudo /home/pi/joymap-0.5.7/loadmap /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pc/CIV/CIV-mapper-SVN.map &
/opt/retropie/emulators/dosbox/bin/dosbox -c "mount c /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pc" -c "c:" -c "cd CIV" -c "CIV.EXE" -c "exit"
sudo killall loadmap
sleep 1
this works, and starts the game and everything, i just need the mouse sensitivity to be way higher.
does anyone know what the trick is?
many thanks!
Fairly new to DOSBox and i've hit a wall trying to get an addon to work.
I have the game, X-Men II, in its own folder in C:\ and the addon (a 'scenario editor') in a seperate folder on C:\
If I drag/drop the 'install.com' file from the addon onto DOSBox it gives me a prompt on where to install the files but whenever i try to select the X-MENII subdirectory it just...won't work. What am I doing wrong here?
If it helps, the game is in C:\XmenII and the addon is in C:\Xmen2-add
I would like to create a bat file that Runs the ipxnet contact command and lets you input your ipaddres the runs the command with the nominated port number. With the print command to instructions on how to do it
Eg @Echooff Echo type in your server IP Input $G $G 1234
So this is supposed to print Type in your IP? (I type my IP address) Then it types my IP address and adds the port 1234
I'm playing Ecstatica on DOSBox Staging and everything works just fine, but I'm getting no voice acting, only the subtitles show. What could be wrong?
I'm currently on a nostalgia trip to get the specific SAA1099 chunky goodness out of as many games as possible. I've had some good luck; I saw people on other forums struggling with GB sounds in Silpheed but I got it working perfectly.
I thought I was crazy since I distinctly remembered a different musical arrangement that none of the Youtube videos have, but it turns out I wasn't crazy after all.
I also distinctly remember a chunky chiptune melody in several Descent tracks which I can't reproduce. On YouTube, there are OPL2 reproductions that are pretty close on (so I know for sure that the musical arrangement I'm looking for exists), but none with that distinct SAA1099 chiptune blockiness. I've experimented with a million combinations and I'm getting the audio equivalent of TES Oblivion's face generator on random. I'm not even getting anything like that YouTube version in OPL2 mode.
What could I be missing here? Given that I'm getting good CMS/GB/SAA1099 sound from many games just fine, is there anything I should do specific to Descent, or perhaps I'm missing something more generally that I need to learn, like a missing driver?
I am trying to play wizardry on DOSBox, but the version that i have downloaded already has half a roster full of password protected characters that i cant use, and I would like to make a fresh start. is there a way to make a new scenario disk, so i can start from the beginning?
I’ve downloaded the files, unzipped them (I think), placed the files in dosbox and don’t know what to type to run the game.
Real newbie here, could anyone please let me know what I am doing wrong. Can't seem to get past trying to launch Dosbox with the windows 98 config file... "dosbox-x -conf win98.conf" returns "zsh: command not found: dosbox-x"
"open dosbox-x.app -conf win98.conf" returns open: invalid option -- c
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance !!
Howdy, as per title.
Mouse still can select things on the screen (i.e. load game or something) but given I can't see the pointer, things get tricky relatively quickly.
Thanks
Hi all! I'm a bit of a noob to DOSBox on Linux. Been happily running it on Windows with the DOSShell frontend for years.
BUT....Linux is the OS on my daily driver laptop, so decided to try it there as well!
I've got it installed and running great with the DOSBox Game Launcher GUI, but it seems like DOSBox has created a bunch of folders in the root of my Home directory ('captures', 'db', 'dosroot', 'export', 'profiles', 'templates', 'xsl')
How would I go about changing the directory that DOSBox uses so that I can move all of those into, say, a simple 'DOSBox' folder in my Home directory to clean things up?
Thanks! :)
Can someone tell me or point me to a guide on how to load additional courses through dosbox?

Hello, I'm using dosbox staging portable, but it keeps the configuration directory in the Local folder. Is there a way to change path of the directory to another? Thanks.
I am not using Dosbox as a standalone program, instead it came with the PC port of Tomb Raider 1. That said, the program closes whenever I switch windows (no matter the method). This only happens when the program is in fullscreen mode, but the window is very small, and changing the resolution in the windowed mode does not work, as the graphics remain the same size and the added resolution to the window is just black.
Not only that, but the smallest resolution on my desktop is slightly too big to fit the emulator.
The program also crashes if I attempt to switch it from windowed from fullscreen mode, so I have to make the choice when I launch it.
I’m playing Universe by Core Design through DosBox, I got to a certain point of the game and I received this error (and a fyi I’m just streaming it to my deck it’s running on my pc)
I thought I would try WordStar in DOSBox using a ChromeBook. It appeared to work at first but there's two unresolved issues.
First (and most important): Whatever I do in DOSBox is not reflected in my mounted drive. I delete files in DOSBox and nothing changes in my WS directory (at least not seen from the file manager) — there seems to be a disconnect here as, while mounted in DOSBox I see the changes, when I go to the file manager they aren't there? Does DOSBox create a new directory in the ChromeBook and, if so, how do I find it?
Second: The ALT key doesn't work in WordStar. The CTRL key works, so I can use WS, but it is kind of a nuisance and I lose some features, like Preview.
Hopefully this is just my ignorance at work here. Thanks for any pointers or info.
EDIT: I deleted the directories I used for importing WordStar (two versions), and WordStar still runs, so obviously DOSBox moved these files somewhere else, but I have no idea where that somewhere else is. I think under /data, but how do access the /data directory?
EDIT2: I can see now that you can export files via DOSBox to a folder you can access. Seems kind of clunky but it will work. Any way to make the ALT keys available for DOSBox.
BTW, I mean to write ChromeBook in the title instead of ChromeBox. Not that it makes a lot of difference.
