i'm trying to run windows 95 with dosbox, and all of the tutorials ive seen show it running perfectly upon startup, but for me all it does is display a loading screen and then turn black. idk what the problem is, and im not sure what to do differently.
When try to execute the setup.exe program for Doom 2 like so:
dosbox /home/username/.dosbox/doom2/setup.exe
I am sent to the autoexec.bat which is expected, but the program does not run.
Is there a way to correct this?
EDIT: I should clarify "not running:" the command prompt does not open the setup program; it just sits there as if I didn't do anything.
Hi,
I'm trying to get one of these two games running (on windows 7)
https://www.myabandonware.com/game/a-force-more-powerful-the-game-of-nonviolent-strategy-dwn (error message : D3D renderer creation failed)
https://www.myabandonware.com/game/people-power-the-game-of-civil-resistance-dwm (error message : damaged installation file)
I would be grateful if anyone could give me a hand.
Best,
Hey guys,
So I’ve successfully followed the instructions on this page here (specifically the directions from RJ) and was able to install and play the game just fine. However, I’m struggling to figure out how to run the game again after it’s been closed. Can anyone help?
I think I just don’t understand how CDROMs work here yet.
The original DOS version of Command and Conquer does not detect version 0.74-3-5build2 of the vanilla DOSBOX build. I am currently running Linux Mint 22 Wilma.
When I mount it, for instance, mount d /media/username/gdi for the GDI disc, #1, the command prompt will say "MSCDex limited support," and #2, the C&C program does not detect the disc.
Here's the command I used:
mount d /media/username/gdi -t cdrom
Is there something that I did wrong?
I'd like to run a game that's located within the dosbox-staging.app
I.e. I want to copy the contents of the game "Z" to /contents/macOS/Z/ and then use these relative paths to run this.
I've tried everything with the help of ChatGPT but had no luck, i.e. relativ folders with "./" no longer seems to work.
Right now I'm mounting the files with absolute path names and the folder located elswewhere:
mount c "/Volumes/T5 Evo/games/z"
imgmount d "/Volumes/T5 Evo/games/z/z.iso" -t iso
Any help from Pros appreciated
in heroquest how do i return to the dos screen where i can choose graphic and sound?
i want to change my selection i did there from keyboard to mouse
Hello new to DOSBox here. Been using It for about a week. I have successfully played two games already with no problem. Can't get X-com to run correctly. I mount a folder for my c: hard rive and mount the disk image file to d: I successfully install the game to drive c: and all of the files are there. However when I run the Ufo.bat it starts the intro. If I press a key it locks up if I let it play it gets to the end of the intro and does nothing after that. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Would greatly appreciate any help I could getting this game to run.
Please someone help me before I genuinely rip all my limbs off in anger. I want to copy an iso file into my documents as an exe. This should be as easy as copy paste but for some reason it hasn’t been and i literally cannot copy over the contents of my iso files. Please, if you see this and think you can help, flick me a message
I think I asked about this 6-12 months ago and then was referred to a few links that contain "useful" information.
Here I am trying to setup Dosbox Staging again on Mac and just ... utterly fail to do so. Sure, I can get a game running, but it's next to impossible to figure out how to run just one particular .conf file for each game.
The documentation for dosbox for macOS is pretty much... inexistent. It takes like 30 minutes to comprehend Dosbox setup on Windows, on Mac it's a total nightmare however...
Can we get proper documentation please?
I'm able to use my SC88 just fine with normal DB. I use Coolsoft MIDImapper to tell Windows to direct all MIDI output to the Roland. Works fine. Just learned about DBX recently, decided to try it. After installing it it tells me it can't even find a midi handler when doing "mixer /listmidi". But what's worse is now when I try to use normal DB it doesn't output to the Roland at all anymore, just defaults to emulated midi which sounds HORRIBLE. I've checked everything in the config, all is good. Ran the setup for games again, all good. Just won't output to the Roland anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Been trying to emulate Pinball Dreams on DOS, and while it runs mostly okay, the ball physics are kind of slow, and the ball moves like it's on the moon. The game is still perfectly playable in this state, but the physics are not ideal. I have working roms for Dreams 2 and Fantasies as well, and the ball physics are nice and quick in those two (with minor slowdown on the Neptune table in Dreams 2). Is there a way to change the ball physics so the game plays more akin to how Dreams 2 and Fantasies are playing for me?
Hi
I just tested an old game out with DOSBox, which is pre-setup. However, I've noticed the game/DOSBox doesn't play the audio through my speakers, but instead the S/PDIF, which is incredibly quiet. I've the volume cranked to full and I've tried playing with the settings. If I set it back to speakers, I get no audio at all. Is there anything in DOSBox's config that needs changing? Thanks.
I haven't had a tremendous desire to play much with a controller on PC, but I think some of the old flight sim-style games i have that run in dosbox (like wing commander) might be a bit more fun with one nowadays.
I don't imagine that a ps5 controller is something that's readily recognizable as a device in a dos environment, but would there be any way for me to configure something to make it usable with these games?
(I'm not at home right now or I'd at least try)
i'm literally on a 1600x1200 screen. same size windowed is sharp same size fullscreeen is blurry no matter which scaler and outputs combination i do and then it goes randomly offcentre or stuck in the corner each time getting bulrrier?
i made 3 clean installs of newly downloaded dosbox from the site on 3 different disks
no matter what it always starts dune 2 just because there's one dune2 folder with dosbox on this pc
I am going insane (you can tell I'm new to this dosbox stuff, so take my responses with a grain of salt)
For example, say that I install Windows 98 via dosbox-pure through RetroArch on a PC, then take the resulting hard disk image and use it on an Android phone or another ARM device running RetroArch and the dosbox-pure core (making sure the core itself is the same version on all platforms). Will this cause issues, or are hard disk images agnostic to where/how they were created?
Hey everyone!! I was on this subreddit a while back, talking with other users about DosBox - namely the different versions and how easy/difficult they are to install and use. I could not find that conversation, so I wanted to re-post and continue the talk.
As of right now, I am aware of two updated versions of DosBox - D-Fend and DosBox-Stranded (I think thats the name, I could be wrong). Which do you guys recommend? What is easier to work with - downloading/installing/using? My current DosBox version is VERY old - I think its " 0.74-3" and I think I am ready to upgrade. That, and I need a new version for some games that I plan on getting in the near future.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a great day, and I look forward to talking with everyone about DosBox and the different options that are at hand. Thanks so much!!
I was playing prince of persia 2 the shadow and the flame but every time I finish a level it crashes IDK why note : I played 1 and it didn't have any problems
so i just got tomb raider and i want to play it through dosbox and not steam but it says something like insert cd?
I've downloaded masm and dosbox and mounted to the folder but it seems like I can't use it. I know it is a rookie question/mistake but I really need advice on what I did wrong.
I have had this issue recently on my laptop when I fullscreen dosbox the screen is misaligned . I have tried tweaking in the config file but I have yet to get any results, does anyone know the right configuration (I have a 1920x1080 laptop screen if that helps)
I'm looking for the best dos emulator for gaming that isn't dosbox-x because it had issues I didn't have with dosbox ( not recognizing the / key next to the shift key but recognizing the one on top of the numpad during gameplay for example, also mt-32 making some weird white noise). I was also wondering how people make it so a shortcut will automatically start the game like how gog installation folders have some ready
Not sure if this is only a dropbox-x option, but there's a "Drive" menu that allows mounting a folder as a hard drive. But, when I try to use it, installers complain that there isn't enough free space. The drive this folder is in has plenty of free space.\
EDIT: Looks like Windows 98 SE has a problem figuring out the disk size during install. I had to choose the "Compact" option.
Will either of these latter two files on MacOS? I ask because I also want to install mods for Arena, but I have yet to find one that details how to mod the first one. Thanks!
Dosboxpure in Android Game:Treasures of the Savage Frontier Thank you
