/r/doowop
As a musical genre, doo-wop features vocal group harmony with the musical qualities of many vocal parts, nonsense syllables, a simple beat, sometimes little or no instrumentation, and simple music and lyrics. It is ensemble single artists appearing with a backing group. Solo billing usually implies an individual is more prominent in the musical arrangement.
The name Doo-wop is given to a style of vocal-based rhythm and blues music that developed in African American communities in the 1940s and achieved mainstream popularity in the 1950s and early 1960s.

Always thought this one was a bit of a strange subject for a Doo Wop record, as it sounds more like a public service announcement. Still, one of the best rockers from the group usually known as The Ly-Dells, out of Philadelphia.

Sorry this is a day late, haven’t been feeling that good for the past two days. Anyway, make sure to share some good doo wop songs that some may not be familiar with.
We're at day behind schedule, so let's get this party started!!!
I (15M) have been obsessed with doo wop groups since i was 13, and ever since I've heard bill Kenny's voice I've been wanting to make a tribute band to the ink spots. I've never been interested in singing before I found the ink spots, and now i want to sing more than anything. But i always wonder if anyone would even care about an ink spots tribute band, Or even join. Do you think that anyone would appreciate it if i were to try to make one?
With a genre filled with thousands of groups, who would be the kings?
I'm currently trying to get into the Doo Wop genre but I don't really know where to begin, I got into Doo Wop through Frank Zappa and his album 'Cruising With Ruben & The Jets', I enjoyed it quite a lot but never decided to look more into the genre, a friend of mine recently recommended me a band called The 5 Satins and I liked them but I don't really know any other bands to listen to.
Any recommendations will be much appreciated.
My Grandpa was in a group at one point with the lead singer here (John Rich). Enjoy!
At around the 1 minute 10 sec mark on the YouTube link version (1 min mark on regular recording), the backing vocals come in, but I can’t hear what phrase they’re singing.
Nearest I guess guess is something like “he’s the type I love to call” but can anyone help figure it out?
Woodchuck Song, The Impalas 1959
I know of Row Your Boat by the Chanters and Mary’s Lamb by the Ideals, but any other Doo Wop out there inspired by nursery rhymes, classic children’s songs or fairytales?
Kenny Vance produced this doc that has aired in the New York area but I missed it. Doesn’t appear to be playing anywhere local. Anyone know anything about it?
I’m a fan of doo-wop music, although admittedly I have not actively sought out new doo-wop artists before. There are, of course, the occasional old timey remakes I stumble upon on YouTube, but nothing doo-wop.
Does anyone have recommendations for new artists?
I was going down rabbit holes of my favorite groups and learned that Janet Vogel took her own life at 37. Please enjoy this song in her memory. She truly had the voice of an angel.
Theses are the same guys that sang “love me”
I like the bass in this one
More uptempo Philly sound

I'm curious if there any parts of the world that still listen to or even dance to American doowop music!? And if so- who is their favorite? Let's not forget who coined the term "rock & roll is here to stay. It'll never die" !!!! 😊😊😊😊
