Hi All - a friend and I are having an over-due get together, and neither of us have been to Doncaster, but it's conveniently in the middle for us to meet by train.
We're looking for interesting pubs, interesting beer, and a good kebab afterwards. Where should we go? I've seen the "Visit Doncaster" Donny Dozen selection of pubs, so I've got a starter for 12.
Closest to me is Salvation army otherwise its the tip. TIA
Im turning 16 in january and i need money
Is there any jobs or work cash in hand? I dont mind doing anything for £££ Got a baby on the way so just trying to make some money
Asda anyone working in. Doncaster Asda
Is Donny a good place for wife and I to do a bit of a pub crawl on a Saturday pm? We go to Hull which is good but want a bit of a change. Also, is there a good Indian restaurant in the centre? Thanks
So I've just moved to near Wakefield/Doncaster area, I'm from Middlesbrough area, so a boro fan but fallen out love of football at that level, where we have moved we have a non league club 5 min walk away, our kids are both youngy and never been to football but watched on TV, woukd you say kids would enjoy non league with no atmosphere or would they prefer a biggee team?, I get every kids are diffrent just wanting people opinions. Thanks
Hi All! I’m new to Doncaster and was wondering if there are any groups for making friends? I’m pretty laid back and happy to get involved in anything tbf!
Due to the slow decline in our city and surrounding boroughs in general. (My opinion) I have been considering for a long time starting a social enterprise that gives back to the community. I feel (again in my opinion) that the current “charities” in our area don’t really give back to the communities they serve, such as paying people minimum wage, relying on volunteers, and not really benefitting the area in general.
I was just wondering what peoples thoughts are on this? A social enterprise that gives back what people put in eg: someone buys an item for £100, after paying for goods, rent and wages etc.. the surplus goes back into Doncaster.
Your thoughts on this are much appreciated and I thank you all for taking the time to read it.
EDIT: Due to the comments/DM’s I’d like to explain myself more. This idea is providing goods/services you already purchase, but the profit goes back into our region/communities. I feel giving £10 back to Doncaster, Barnsley, Rotherham or Sheffield is better than it going to Blackpool, Liverpool, London, etc…
I rang a ‘Bathroom remodeller’ and he suggested that I call a handyman. He also said I could use expanding foam.
But to be honest, I’d like to have the whole thing taken off and put a more aesthetic cover than I’ve got currently.
Any contractor recommendations please?
Anybody know anywhere around town that sells computer mice? Preferably wired.
I'm looking about buying a house in Thorn buy I don't know if it's a nice area or not help will be appreciated
So Im currently a rail worker and have been for a number of years now, so the pays great the hours and days off not so, my usual rosta is 7 on 2 off followed by 7 on 5 off. I’ve just hit a point in my career where I feel like I’m in a stagnant position with nowhere to turn or possibilities of progression due to the fact it’s not what you know but rather who you know…
I’m in my early forty’s and I’ve been toying with the idea of potentially training to be a driving instructor and then maybe drop to part time on the railway and do the driving part time, is it a rewarding career now or has the market been flooded since covid with the local councils paying for the tuitions does anyone out there happen to know.
Thanks in advance 😊
Hi all, just recently moved 20 mins from Doncaster and wondering if there’s any recommendations on what to do with a 16 month old crawler for the day?
I don’t drive, so anywhere that’s accessible by bus on a weekend and doesn’t cost a fortune would be ideal. Only place we’ve been to is the wildlife park and while that’s fun, the price is not haha
TIA!
Are there any parking spots or lay-bys in or around Doncaster that are good for stargazing? Thinking about going with weekend to watch the sunset or the stars.
I will use Uber to get into the park. I don't have a full day so I want to get there as quickly as possible and back. Thanks.
Am terrified of the dentist and haven't been in years. It's inevitably caught up with me and I feel like my heads in a vice 😖
I'm writing a story on the many delays, failings and eventual (disappearance) of the combined authority-funded ‘HS2 Academies’ at 2 Lister Street, Birmingham and at Carolina Way, Doncaster. The institution seems to have been known as an HS2 academy by locals - but has been called both a National College of Highspeed Rail and then the National College for Advanced Transport and Infrastructure.
It just seems to have closed very quietly with very little scrutiny as to why and how - there have been reports that it was taken under the aegis of the University of Birmingham - and then nothing since. Have the site's functions been transferred to the Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV) Skills Academy - or just been ditched completely?
If you were a student or teacher at the academy please do get in contact with me at sam@birminghamdispatch.co.uk, thanks
I am planning on moving back to the UK once I am 18 and I'm wondering if Doncaster is a good place to stay, I've heard Doncaster is one of the main points for transport along all of England and I'm genuinely curious if it's good if I think about starting a family.
Keep an eye out for painted rocks, hidden around Doncaster. 7th Doncaster Boys Brigade and Girls Association have painted and hidden 80 rocks around Doncaster to celebrate 80 years of their group, if you find one, take a photo and hide it again! They have all been painted by children from 7th Doncaster, and they would love to see how many of these get found and shared.
I'm not actually part of the group. But my wife is captain and my eldest is a part of it too.
Hey Doncaster, I'm meeting a mate at the train station later today, as a handy halfway point between us.
Where's good to go for a couple of pints within walking distance of there?
Thanks
Likely moving soon to Wheatley area, near the Aldi, anyone got any advice? (Apart from "don't", it's not optional) Is it safe for women to go out alone, is it particularly bad for crime or racial issues etc, we're a family of 3 white brits for context, 1m 2f.
2ndly if you were young and gay, are there any good places to go to meet others? Preferably not pubs etc, not looking for hookups etc, just a nice community, I think Doncaster is known for being pretty LGBTQ friendly, just not an easy thing to discover for an introvert.
Cheers
And I know, not gonna trust anyone that says "meet me at this place I'll take you to a good gay hangout" I may be posting on reddit but, I'm not a complete imbecile...
I'm looking to become a delivery driver and just wondering what some of the better companies are to work for around Doncaster? There seems to be a lot of places hiring and would be good to hear some opinions from people who have a bit of experience. Cheers.
More specifically, I’m looking for a track/flat area that to run some sprints/intervals. I’ve looked into the athletic club but I can’t justify the price to access the running track. Thanks in advance!
Wondering if there’s anyone out there currently commuting Doncaster to Leeds Centre for work and how they find it?
Don’t want to put a tonne of miles on my car and was considering driving to the station and then getting the train
Hello, I’m looking for a French teacher or French lessons as I’m keen to learn the language.
I'm interested in taking an etiquette class but can't travel outside of Doncaster so was wondering if there were any or anything like that
Hi, me and my partner are currently looking at buying our first home and just after some advice on areas we should completely avoid.
I was born in Wheatley (DN1) and have lived here all my life, area is rough but it’s what I’m used to at this point so I’m looking for somewhere quieter, less crime but I’m not expecting it to be perfect. I have family in both Edlo and Intake so know those areas already. We have an 8 year old so a good primary school and relatively close to a decent secondary school would be ideal, and good transport links into the town centre as that where I currently work.
We’ve been looking for a while already and most of the houses in our price range are within areas that have been flagged in here as areas to avoid, and the areas that are supposedly good are just out of our price range so I’m just looking for some more insight really into where people suggest :)
