Hey everyone trying to get into dmr and radios, have a new hp682 and 602 bought from Atlantic radio along with the correct cable and cps NA2. When in the cps the software is not picking up the connection port/cable to the radio. Should there be a program mode I need to be in. Manual didn’t state it or can’t find it. Hopefully y’all can help. Ty
I have my local repeater plugged in with CC1 and I have the WW91 TG and a few more including PARROT. My analog repeaters are working fine. I get the tone about a second after I hit PTT, but I’m unable to get it to receive or transmit anything on DMR. I also set up local 9 on TS2 for the repeater, and neither me or my buddy’s radio hear from each other. The repeater is 1.3 miles from our location. I think it has to do with that microphone and red dot logo on the bottom right. I can’t figure out what that means.
Ok.. I know.. this has been done before.. but I would respectfully request some input.
I have my General license, so I spend most of my 'radio time' on HF, but I do like DMR radios for their versatility. I have 2 DMR radios: 2 Baofeng DM 1701s using the original OS. I had already built out an extensive code plug and have not seen any major benefit to OpenGD77 (if there are 3-4 major benefits, please feel free to educate me on why it is preferred). They are great little HTs, and my EDC right now. They have limitations- Older, less memory for contacts, less feature-packed (but I got them both at the $60 price point from Aliexpress so how can you refuse that.. 2 DMR radios for $120).
I have 2 Radioditty DM-25D radios. One is in my truck and one is at home as my UHF/VHF base radio. It works great and paired with my MMDVM hotspot.. perfect (I can also reach a nearby DMR repeater, so I have that if the wifi goes down).
I originally purchased the Radioditty GD-88 as my first DMR HT, but was INSTANTLY dismayed at the fact that you cannot simply type in a memory channel and go to it. I find that insane. If I have a huge zone programmed and want to jump to memory 34 and I am on 14.. I have to spin the dial.. on the DB25D and the DM1701.. just type 034 and boom.. channel 34. That just seemed really stupid to me, so I sent it back. Radioditty was fantastic and gave me zero issues.
So.. what's next. As much as I love my DM 1701s.. and plan to still utilize them.. I would LOVE to upgrade to a more feature rich and better DMR HT.
The choices: 1. go back to the GD88 and learn to live with that stupid issue (bonus because my codeplug for the DB25D would just load right onto the GD88. 2. BTECH DMR- 6X2 PRO. I am not afraid of Btech/Baofeng radios.. its seems feature packed and Miklor feels it is a superior radio to the Anytone 878UVII Plus. 3. Go fanboi and buy the Anytone 878UVII Plus which seems to be very popular and beloved.
For those who have owned or own the 6X2 Pro and / or 878UVII Plus.. what are the major differences... if any? Is there a feature on either radio that you use all the time that you love.. or that you have found to be the most useful?
Ideally I would love to have a DMR dual band radio with 6m and 1.25 attached.. like the Wouxon KG-Q10H quad band hand held.. only with DMR on 2m/70cm.. One radio to rule the world!
Hey All
Ive got some password protected radios that i cant get into, ive got a frequency scanner but i still need to find out the colour codes and the rest of the information, is there a way of doing this?
How can I determine what the Reserved Group ID on my radio?
Hey all. I have a discontinued RT84, and can't find a cable specifically for it. I know there are differences, and know the ones for the non-digital Chinese radios won't work. Any suggestions as to what's compatible with this thing?
Brushing the dust off the ol' hotspot and intend to load OpenGD77 on this radio, but need a new cable. Thanks in advance, and 73.
Hello to all you smarter than me. I have inherited four 980S U1 repeaters (yes, this model # and version is correct) that were removed from service in 2022. They were originally installed at this site in 2015. After they were removed they sat around in a warehouse until someone said get rid of them, so about a week ago I brought them back to my shop, set one up on the bench, hooked up power and a dummy load with a watt meter and turned it on. The unit started booting, went through some checks (but nothing showed up on the display), and then immediately started transmitting at 45 watts. (Glad I had a dummy attacted). I tried the same procedure for the other 3 and got the exact same results, and nothing I do changes anything on this start-up routine on all of them. They're all acting like they're a control channel, even though they're not connected to a switch or base station controller. I originally thought that if this type of system lost it's connection to the base station unit, they all would automatically drop into DMR2 mode, so I let it run for thirty minutes to test that, but nothing changed. Here's the problem...when I connect my PC47 programming cable and put the switch in DL mode (FW Upgrade), the repeaters skip right past that when they're booting, and continue with a normal boot up...like there nothing connected. I've tried connecting to it with older (7.X.XX.XXX) versions of HYTERA CPS and FW software, but no success...not even a USB confirmation that it's connected. I know this setup is good because I have an MD782 that I connected to right after and it connected perfectly. I can go into the network port and ping the unit on its' static IP address, so that's a possibility for access, but not sure what to do after I've connected, or what program to use to re-activate the front\rear programming ports (Putty, RDAC?). It there another way to get into the programming to take it out of Trunking mode?
I’m having issues putting GD77 onto my 1701. I bought a compatible cable (chip-less) and when I plug it in, it’s not recognized by my computer despite having tried installing drivers. I’m not sure what else to try here. Any suggestions?
I notice when I watch a control center and I talk it doesn’t show my name it just shows my radio id, is there a way to fix this, like I see everyone else’s name and location but mine is just the radio id.
Example: mine (“8282818”)
Example; someone else (“AA0AAA - Joe - Bourne, Massachusetts , United States - - 8989718”)
Hello guys, im using a Retevis RT3S with opengd77 firmware. My question is: Why in my computer, using SDR, i can hear some digital frequencies, and others i cannot, same using the same color code and repeater slot.
I understand why the vocoder side of things is proprietary, but why can't someone produce a black box radio with open source software. These Chinese radios all seem to use the same ridiculous user interface. I had to write a python program to parse the existing config, just so I could duplicate all my channels for each zone. Each zone is a unique frequency for me, which is tied to a different repeater or hotspot. This seems a bit archaic. Someone please tell me of a stable radio which has a open source CPS! I like the idea of bluetooth programming, or even OTA programming, but I have yet to find a DMR (not analog only) radio with either. Please give me a "me too" if you're as frustrated as I am. I've been in DMR for about 10 years and I can't believe the CPS software for these newer radios isn't any better.
Well, I've decided to take another crack at updating my TYT MD-380 to allow for contacts database. Everything I find is broken. Suggestions, anyone?
Hello, does anyone know if there is a way to contact any of the volunteers at Brandmeister for account verification? I requested an account a while back (week or two) to setup my hotspot and haven't heard anything since.
Is the tyt md uv390 plus a good radio?
Alright so a little bit of background, I've been getting very into radios over the past year and have played around alot with programming and talking using GMRS ( I know it's not ham, but it works well for my family members who arent into radios) I plan on scheduling for my tech license in the next few weeks and would like to get into the digital side of radio. The Btech seems intetesting being DMR and analog and being a business radio the frequency ranges are more open than most vhf/uhf radios. Does anyone have experience with the 6x2 or 6x2 pro. Legalities aside will the trasnmit on the GMRS freq?
Hi everyone,
As we in our local HAM club planning to build a DMR repeater, we need to choose MMDVM modem board.
I found at least two options:
I personally like a BI7JTA version because of available documentation and ready to use Motorola GMxx connector boards, as we plan to use this kind of radio (GM360 or GM340).
Do you have any experience with these boards? Are there any known problems or quirks that we'll need to know?
Talking software side - the plan is to build it on newest WPSD version.
I configured my hotspot a few months back and it has been working well. I carefully configured it foallowing a pi-star guide. I have the pi-star configured for DMR only and have my home QTH coordinates entered into the configuration with APRS host enabled. I have also entered my location into brandmeister my location shows accurately on the brandmeister website. For whatever reason my location will not appear on aprs.fi unless I have the dmr to nxdn setting enabled in my configuration. Any ideas why my location wouldn't be appearing in aprs.fi when configured for DMR alone?
Hi all , I am a ham radio operator looking into getting a DRM radio. There are 3 repeaters around 60 miles away from my home. Do you think I will be able to work any of them at this range ?
Anybody seen any marked difference using different frequencies? My radio and MMDVM are set up on 444.000, and I am using the UHF antennas. Had several tell me that the VHF setup doesn't work that great so most just use UHF.
Just curious if I might see better performance if I move up or down, for instance to say 460.000 MHz.
I primarily have my MMDVM in very close proximity to my radio.
Hi Lads,
Hope someone can help me with this issue, I won 2xPD782G radio in an auction. I have absolutely no idea about radios, I thought they’d be a good 2 way walkie talkies for treks and stuff. However these ones are only picking up nearby train station frequency. Is there anyway I can reset these or make them talk to each other?
Thanks
Longtime ham, but new to DMR. No repeaters within range of my QTH, so I picked up one of these. It came with very basic instructions on getting it up and running and connected to WiFi, and I've found a few websites that seem useful, but I thought I'd ask here for any newbie tips.
Do I want to configure as simplex or duplex? Will duplex allow me to connect to multiple networks?
Any common mistakes I should be aware of so I can avoid them? I assume in my radio codeplug I'd program it in just like any repeater?
I'm computer and tech literate, and can follow directions, so I'm hoping to get it up and running without too much frustration.
I'm trying to find documentation for current versions of mmdvmhost and dmrgateway configuration files with no much luck.
For mmdvmhost I've found some old reference: https://on7lds.net/42/node/44 and for dmrgateway there's only documentation for rewrite commands: https://github.com/g4klx/DMRGateway/wiki/Rewrite-Rules
I'm starting to think that's there's no documentation existing and you only can get available parameters values and it's functions from analyzing source code of this software...
Hi I’ve just purchased the hytera x1e firmware V9.02.04.001 being all proud of my new radio purchases but then I hit a block.
The radios are on firmware v4 and cannot be upgraded directly to v9.
I’ve had a google but can’t find any where the get the firmware versions needed to get to v9.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please.
Thanks!

Looking to get an actual radio to listen in to my local FD. Looked at scanners, but at 500$+, I am thinking there must be an affordable radio that could work?
Hi recently qualified and new to DMR I’m navigating my way through bit by bit. I started out with an RT3S to test the water as it were. I’ve successfully managed to flash it with Opengd77 and written a Codeplug which works with 2 local repeaters. I have no problem with one which is linked in to Brandmeister. However on Repeater book the second only has basic info and for IPSC just says DMR+ and has no static talk groups listed like the other, so I’m wondering can I still connect to Brandmeister tg’s through it? Thanks in advance.
I have inherited the radios on our campus (IT background) and I am stuck. I have about 50 Hytera (PD 402) radios that we own, and a donor gave and installed 20 Kenwood Radios and a repeater. I have the Hyteras programmed to the same frequency as the Kenwoods. When I talk on the Hytera, the Kenwood lights up green, but I do not hear the traffic. I see the same behavior on the Hytera when speaking on the Kenwood. I have tried this on the channels that use the repeater and those that do not. The same brand of radios do hear the traffic.
What programming changes can be made to allow these to communicate with one another?
I have a MMDVM hotspot running WPSD. It was initially setup on my phone's hotspot and it works great but I want to add my home wifi network so it uses that while I am at home.
I've gone in and added my home wifi network, but I don't know of the MMDVM automatically swaps to it or if this is something that has to be manually done?
I am sure there is a configuration setting somewhere in WPSD or maybe something else?
