Is there something broken in the later updates? Reimaged my SD card with latest Bookworm-based images and suddenly my OpenGD77 handheld cannot be connected, neither pi-star nor WPSD detects them, breaking my simplex gateway.
R3S is detected partially but does not present the TTY endpoint, and Baofeng 1701 is completely invisible. This was a working setup.
It’s was working for a few weeks then I unplugged for a few days. Now dmr service not connecting. Hotspot display is blank. I run update but nothing happens.
I didn't see this in the manual, but after I researched down in to DMRGateway, I did notice that it is explained on the page about how to connect to the WSPR help talkgroup. Maybe I'm the only one that didn't know this but since I wanted to jot it down for myself, I thought I'd leave it here in case it helps someone else out.
Note that in the DMR Manager you can set a default XLX and module. That will be on TG6 when you start, so if you are OK with that, you don't need steps 3 or 4.
So I don't know what you do if you want to do XLXUSA, for example. Since 2022, you CAN plug that in as a startup server, but if you ever leave it, you can't get back! Well, of course, you can do it from the admin interface, but not from the radio, as far as I can tell.

Ordered a pair of DMR base stations (Hytera MD782i) for vehicle use and they're programmed to TX/RX on 450-520MHz. Most likely an obvious "no," but I presume with their frequency range being above the DMR Simplex frequencies (such as 446.500Mhz) they will be unable to communicate directly with each other on them? If so, does this make these DMRs useful only for analog communication and their DMR function useless to me as DMR cannot be legally transmitted on FRS/GMRS frequencies?
Droidstar on Google pixel. Have tried on wifi with cellular off, and vice versa.
Advice?
I bought a duplex hs specifcally for being able to disconnect from a busy talkgroup while ops are talking. I issue the 4000 command on BM and it does not disconnect. I have tried group and private. Any idea to get this working? N3FHW
Hello, I am using a MD9600 DMR radio from TYT and while flashing a firmware upgrade disconnected the power cable. Now when I plug the device back in even without pressing the orange button with the P1 button the screen is flashing. Neither the OpenGD77 firmware nor the original firmware seems to be flashing. The original firmware just says erase/write error during flashing and the OpenGD77 one is stuck at erasing some bits and does not progress for hours. Is my device bricked? Is there a way to recover original firmware?
Looking for insight on good or bad experiences. Trying to figure out if they are a legit radio shop or just a jockey of used stuff.
Hey everyone,
I’m new to DMR and recently got a couple of Radioddity GD-77 radios. I really like the clarity of digital audio and want to use them for personal communication around my property. I don’t need anything with long range or repeaters—just something simple for short-distance communication without needing an FCC license.
I know there are license-free options like FRS and MURS, but I’m wondering if it’s possible to program my GD-77 radios to work legally on these bands in digital mode. If so, what’s the best way to set them up? Specifically, I’m looking for: 1. Advice on programming the radios for license-free channels. 2. Any tips on disabling advanced features (like repeaters or encryption) to stay compliant. 3. Whether it’s even possible/legal to use digital mode on MURS or FRS frequencies.
I’ve been watching YouTube videos, but they mostly focus on using DMR with ham radio repeaters, which I’m not interested in. If anyone has resources, guides, or personal experience setting up DMR radios for simple, license-free use, I’d really appreciate your help!
lastly, I am very new to radios in general and do not have a HAM license or anything.
Thanks in advance for your advice!
I was talking with a friend today and we both experienced dropouts or silence during conversation. We both have hotspots connected to a talk group. On my wpsd dashboard gateway activity it shows at least one transmission had 13% loss. My friend spoke to other people earlier in the day and did not have that happen. I’m assuming the problem is on my side. What would cause this?
I’m using opendg77 on baofeng 1701 and simplex hotspot running wpsd.
Hey all, does anyone know of a commercially available DMR radio that can do FHSS (frequency hopping)? Is this something you could just program any radio to do as long as it has a digital operating mode? Struggling to find any information one way or the other.
TIA!
I’ve got a couple of currently unused TGIF TGs and can repurpose one of them for this if we don’t currently have this and if there is any interest. Could be fun times.
Another noob question.....why do I see other people on my HS?
Under Current Caller I see users and IDs (and other info) other than my own.
I noticed some slowness with my internet connection yesterday could that be because of other users on my HS?
New Firmware AT-D878UV & AT-D168UV
Anytone has officially released new firmware for both radios. http://www.wouxun.us/category.php?category_id=83
I'm looking for something that I can operate without looking at the screen.
Specifically a tone to indicate successful TX (so if the internet has dropped out whilst mobile and you try to tx, you get an error tone)
Is this possible on DMR and would I need a simplex or duplex mmdvm?
I recently got into DMR and I lean quite a bit on Hoseline to see which talkgroups are active, however I have trouble estimating whether talkgroups are actually active or merely being called by one person, from Hoseline.
Enter this little thing I made which shows the top 20 talkgroups as a function of keyed up time over the last 10 minutes. You can also click on a talk group to see its activity over time (not much logged activity right now but it will grow) as well as load any of the groups into Hoseline.
I'd love to know if this is useful to anyone and what you'd change about it or add.
I've run the modemdetection and I've used the modem type from the webpage (both different).
The WPSD and most data is great looking (some corrupted characters in small print) but how do I stop the scrolling?
Link to modem Aursinc_MMDVM
Any suggestions?
I'm looking at changing my DMR Radio from the RT3S (non GPS version) to the Baofeng DM1701.
Is it worth buying or sticking with what I have and saving money?
I'm running Opengd77, ideally if the majority suggest to save money for a better radio I'd rather have one that runs the software.
I have 2 AT-D878UVII and programing software cannot read radio via cable. Both do same thing. In computer device manager I get a line under Ports, "PL2303TA Do Not Support Windows 11". All my computers have been upgraded to Win 11 from 10.
Somebody understand this one.
Europe has 92, North America has 93, Australia/Oceania has 95, but nothing for South America. Any good talk groups active in South America for English speaking operators?
It is set for OLED Type 3 (0.96" screen) port /dev/ttyAMA0 but there is no display.
Options set for always active.
Nextion Display Settings Layout Type is set for the default G4KLX
My setup is not complete as far as using it for a hotspot...
Suggestions?
Is there easier way to do this?
My current set up is two simplex hotspots, one RX, the other TX, on different frequencies 440 and 445. One can be duplex. They are linked via a talkgroup. Both have pretty decent antennas up high with a low SWR.
My problem is that if I set up my codeplug on the radio as a repeater, one channel with an offset, nothing works. My solution is one channel of the radio is for TX and the other for RX.
Might DMRGateway work? XLX reflector? A hardware fix? None of the above?
Thanks and 73.
I’m looking for a DMR radio on low band (66-88MHz). I know DMR on low is unheard of, but surely there are radios out there?
Just got my Raspberry Pi 3B MMDVM so now I need a case....I got the Black case that comes with the MMDVM board but the 3B is too large....
Suggestions? Anyone selling one? I really should get a 3d printer.....
Brandmeister says if you want your own talk group use your DMRID. I have noted that you can add your own ESSID to make a bunch, even. However, I have noted strange behavior with DroidStar (at least; don't think it is specific).
If I have two DroidStar instances one with ESSID blank the other with ESSID 01 and on a different network, and I set my TGID to my DMRID, I can talk between them ONLY if I am connected to the 3103 server. The 3102 and 3104 server do not connect them and there is no routing if one is on 3103 and the other is on either '02 or '04 (although if neither of those work, that's not very surprising). I haven't tested it with another user but the implication is that if you want people in a quasi-personal TG, you all better be on the same server and it has to be one that works. Any ideas?
On an unrelated note, my memory is so bad that I tend to document when I figure things out and then share it. So there's a draft of how to get started with DMR/Brandmeister especially on DroidStar (but not exclusively) here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QSneupAhKYQglwJj_SX8G4r4cyBBX-7IrBvOZDZu3_w/edit?usp=sharing 30 something pages, probably many errors and omissions. Comments welcome. Also talks a little about Peanut and TGIF.
Finally figured out what was wrong in my codeplug on my Ailunce HD1. I was finally able to get into Parrot one time and now my hotspot doesn't do anything. Previously the MMDVM hotspot showed idle but now it shows "standby" but I can't connect through it. I set up the hotspot IP address as a static. Entering the address in my web browser does nothing. To get to my dashboard I have to unplug the hotspot and plug it back in and wait for it to finish initializing. After looking there and closing it I have to reset it again. Anyone have a suggestion? I'm thinking the hotspot is defective.
I was going to use Pi 4B with the AURSINC MMDVM Hotspot Hat Board but there is a note about a modification to the Hat that will aid in compatibility of the Pi 4B.....
Has anyone used these boards? Comments...suggestions?
