Has anyone ever seen MilkyyMelodies before?

The song attached to this is her Tiana alternate universe version of "Friends on the other side." I think this YouTuber is just as good and talented as Lydia the bard, sadly though I don't see her get as much attention. If you like Disney villains, Encanto, or even Wish rewrites then your in luck! MilkyyMelodies has done something for all of that! Feel free to check out her content if your interested.

I have a new found appreciation for Frozen after rewatching it just now.

I have a new found appreciation for Frozen after rewatching it today.

So today I decided to rewatch Frozen, a movie, that ive had a love/hate relationship for a while now. When it first came out, I had literally zero interest, and the fact that it got WAY too overblown in hype just made it even worse for me, to the point where i did not bother watching it when it first came out, and i wrote it off as bad (or at the very least, Mid) and overrated, but then in 2018, my GF at the time made me watch it in her preparation for the sequel....i didn't like it then, but then I rewatched in 2023 and...I thought it was just okay, not good, not bad, but fine.

But, I rewatched today, and I can safely say....I finally get it. I finally understand the love. The movie, is great, still not a 10/10 masterpiece, I'll explain why in a little bit, but I have such a new found appreciation for the movie now.

The songs are great, the characters are (for the most part) very well written and three dimensional, especially Anna and Elsa, Anna and Elsa's sisterly relationship and bond is the core of this movie and its beautiful, Anna, while maybe nowhere near the same level as Rapunzel for me, is still one of the best modern Disney heroines in a film, and Elsa, while I didn't like at first, thanks to this rewatch, she has grown on me as a character (also, both girls are very attractive), the visuals are breathtaking, the score is phenomenal, Sven and Olaf are genuinely funny, also the Yoo-Woo Guy is everything, this is truly a situation where sometimes giving a movie another and a reevaluation is never a bad thing.

But why? Why do I have such a new found appreciation for it now? Well, I think there is 2 key reasons.

  1. The Sequel. Even before my new found appreciation for the first film, I still thought the sequel was trash. To the point where I unironically think Wish 2023 is a better movie then Frozen 2...I'm serious, atleast Wish is fun to make fun of how bad it is, Frozen 2 on the other hand, is not, it's miserable. Not only that, but there is a reason I gave the sequel the nickname "Character Assassination: The Movie" because it takes everything beautiful about the first one, and takes a massive dump on it, by regressing Elsa as a character, introducing the Northuldra and a half-baked and poorly done message about Indigenous oppression just to justify said character regression, flanderizes Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf, completely destroys the whole point and theme of the first one, don't even get me started on the Spirit crap again, it's no wonder barely anyone besides me is willing to give the third and fourth film a chance. However if there is one thing I will give the sequel, is that it made me love and appreciate the first one, and give it a reevaluation.

  2. My current life position: I'll be honest, my life hasn't been the best, as of late, I was forced to move back home to Ottawa, which is not a bad thing, persay, but I lived in London Ontario for a year, and I made so many friends and memories, that when I was forced to move back because of my parents job promotion (whom I live with, I won't say which parent it is, don't want to get too personal) I was forced to leave that all behind. Just like how Elsa was forced to leave her sister behind, Anna, in order to protect, but also made me disconnect with my brother, because I saw how much better his life seemed to be, and we drifted apart when I first moved back, just like how Elsa and Anna drifted apart after they were separated, but after watching the film again, it made me appreciate not only my new surroundings, and appreciate my brother again, but also made me appreciate the sisterly bond even more. Because in the end it doesn't matter how your life has been, your family will always be there for you, and will always have your back, no matter what, and you don't have to deal with stuff alone. Which I think is a beautiful message. Especially during the holiday season (on tip of the message of not being afraid of you who are and embracing your true self).

It's not a flawless film, I still feel like the parents could've done more to help there daugther, instead of just locking her away, I still don't buy the romance between Anna and Kristoff, personally, I would've preferred if they remained friends, and yeah....Hans sucks as a villain. Not only does the twist feel unearned and not properly built up, but also, I realized, he's a rip-off of Syndrome from the Incredibles.

Like, his plan is to kill Elsa and make himself look like the hero, that's just syndrome from the Incredibles, Hans is the cheap copy. Or if your a Marvel nerd, the inferior version of Mysterio from FFH. Personally, I think the Duke of Weaseltown should've been the clear-cut sole main antagonist of the movie. Or do what Fanscription did and have the ice blast to Anna's heart actually turn her dark in the end, which, I think would've slightly more interesting.

But, oh well, seeing Anna Deck Hans was still pretty funny though. Also, I could do without Fixer Upper. But overall, though, yeah, I have a new found appreciation for this film, it deserves all the hype and recognition it has gotten over the years, and while I still think Tangled is the better (also, Rapunzel and Flynn Rider was also everything), Frozen still very much now officially, deserves, a 9/10.

Which desert would you rather have? Aurora's birthday cake or Snow White's gooseberry pie?

One's made with fairy magic, the other's made with the love of a princess. This all depends on your individual taste, there's no right or wrong answer.

What social media scandals would the princesses cause?

If the princesses were modern day social media stars/content creators, what scandals or drama would they cause?

For example, Jasmine would make a whole video showing her dressing up in rags and pretending to be a poor person for a day. It would be completely tone deaf, out of touch and slightly offensive leading her to get cancelled.

It makes no sense to compare Disney princesses

I see a lot of people comparing classic princesses to modern princesses. Comparing Anna to Elsa, comparing Cinderella to Aurora, comparing princesses who don't have any similarities between them, like Aurora and Mulan, how do you compare two princesses with TOTALLY different stories. It doesn't even make sense to compare Anna and Elsa, because despite being sisters and having the same parents, they had different traumas and have very different personalities.

How does one compare Aurora (1959) to Elsa (2013)? Aurora was cursed AGAINST her will, it's not her fault. How do they criticize Snow White for comparing her to Mulan (It's an example, but I've seen it before) But how would Snow White save China? That doesn't fit into her story. I know that classic princesses may seem "frivolous" to those who are close-minded, but for me, frivolous is being so empty that you don't understand individual characteristics. It doesn't even make sense to me to compare Anna and Rapunzel. Of course Rapunzel was more "aware" than Anna in relation to the people of the world, she had a mother who invented horrible things about the horrible world, even though they have similar characteristics, they are not the same.

For me, it also doesn't make sense to compare Snow White to Cinderella. Snow White was practically a 14-year-old child who ran away because her crazy stepmother was trying to kill her, Cinderella had nowhere to run. How do you compare the two? How can you compare Elsa and Rapunzel's powers if Elsa grew up being considered a freak because of her powers and Rapunzel's power was considered a blessing, to the point of being kidnapped, psychologically abused because they wanted to have the blessing of her powers? Of course Rapunzel was oppressed, but not because of her powers. As I said, they are completely different things.

How do you consider a classic princess weak compared to the more recent ones if the first one is from 1937?

Watching my first episode of Disney Jr's Ariel while in the hospital this morning, and so far, I'm really enjoying it

This show is adorable! I don't get all the hate. This episode I'm watching right now is the Ursula's Magic School episode, and it was very fun! Plus, AMBER RILEY IS URSULA! And Flounder is adorable just like before.

The music is great and catchy, and the theme song is really cute. So far, I could see this being a really sweet and fun adventure series for kids. Or me. Definitely gonna watch the entire show when I get discharged.

What do you think of Disney Jr's Ariel?

Comparing Disney princesses to their Lydia the bard counterparts

Lydia the bard is a talented and remarkable YouTuber who is likely most notable around here for her princess villain songs. I'm gonna compare three official Disney protagonists to their evil versions of themselves. The characters in question are Tiana, Rapunzel, and Mirabel. Mirabel isn't an official princess but I really wanted to talk about her regardless so I grouped her with two of the princesses. Nevertheless, enjoy my nerdy ramblings.

Tiana- In her movie, Tiana is offered getting her restaurant in exchange for that pendent/amulet thing Dr. Facilier needs to avoid being dragged somewhere very... uninviting. Tiana makes the right decision and turns him down, destroying the necklace thing to make sure that he doesn't get his hands on it. This shows how selfless and loyal Tiana is to Naveen and the friends she made on her journey, I think it was a good thing that Tiana didn't accept his deal anyway because knowing Disney villains, they never keep their word on this sort of thing. He did however, at least in The Lydia the bard song "Almost there/friends on the other side." In an alternate universe where Tiana did agree to hand over whatever that fricken item was called, she loses her humanity and becomes the most despised thing a person can achieve, a business CEO. Lottie comes to her office and tries to convince her to stop causing all this suffering but unfortunately, her best friend is gone. This Tiana displaces animals from their natural habitats, including Louis. Naveen is still and a frog and caged by the very person he was once in love with. It's not pretty and it's good to know this could and would be avoided. In another world at least.

Rapunzel- The Rapunzel we know was able to escape her suffocating life, seeing the beauty and wonders of the world and realizing that she's the lost princess of Corona. Not only that but her supposed mother isn't her real mom but a vain, greedy woman who took her from her true family and hid her away. But the Rapunzel in the song "Mother knows best/I see the light" tragically picked up Mother Gothel's miserable way of thinking. Tricked into thinking Flynn Rider betrayed her, Rapunzel believes that Mother Gothel was right about the world being dark, selfish, and cruel and that's she's the only one who truly cares about her. It's horrible to think that this could've happened to our Rapunzel if she didn't have her revelation in the original movie. Lydia the bard made a follow up to the Rapunzel villain song but I don't want to talk about that one too because I didn't want to get what happens in it wrong, I saw it just once and I don't know it as well as the first one.

Mirabel- Fed up with the mistreatment and unfair ways her family has, the Mirabel the songs "We don't talk about Bruno" and the original song "Nothing left to lose" sets out to destroy the blessing rather than save it. These videos go to show how important Mirabel is to both her family and her community. Without her there's no cohesion between the Mardgials and if there's no cohesion, there's no miracle and if there's no miracle, the town can't thrive and survive. Ironically the only one of Abuela Alma's grandchildren with no gift is the most essential member of the entire family.

Here is of Christina Aguilera meeting Mexican pop star Lucero on the set of the music video for Reflection.

For those who dont know, Lucero sang the Latin Spanish version of Mulan's Reflection and her music video was filmed on the same set as Christina's, which is how they met and funny enough, Lucero got a role for a Disney movie a year later as Jane Porter in the Latin Spanish dub of Tarzan.
