What is a durable and good disc to buy?

I have a pitbull who loves chasing discs. But the problem is she kills them in 1-2 hours. I have only tried cheap ones for now and now i want to buy a durable one with some good flight time. Any suggestions?

GSD loves Kong Flyer but has trouble switching to hyperflight or hero frisbee. Any tips?

My dog loves her Kong flyer but has trouble picking up the harder discs. She usually squeezes the red Kong from the front and picks it up.

This has led her to not even go after the hyperflight jaws that I got because she can’t pick it up.

Do you all have any tips for training her to pick up the rigid frisbees?

Durable disc with longer float than K-10 Jaws?

I’ve been tossing a Hyperflite K-10 Jawz with my Vizsla and it’s held up great to his not-so-soft mouth but it tends to kind of drop like a rock instead of floating softly down. Are there any good puncture resistant discs out there that float a little better with short tosses out in the yard? I’ve been looking at the Hero discs but it’s hard to tell which one would be best from the descriptions on their website. Thanks!

A natural

My young (1.5 years) mini american shepherd picked this catching thing up quickly. It has been a really good outlet for her need to run around. I am still using the soft Kong flyers. Any advice stepping it up and training other interesting things?

Joint care advice?

I have a 10 month old Miniture Australian Shepherd, and when my he is older and physically able, I want to train him to be a disc dog, including the vaults and jumps. But I want to make sure that his joints are okay with all the jumping and hitting the ground.

So, what do you all do for your dogs? Are there any specific supplements, or diet changes, or excersices? Is there anything else I should preemptively take care of besides his joints?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hyperflite discs?

Just ordered some more of my favorite Discs for my disc loving border collie! Did Hyperflite change their product?? Even my dog doesn’t want to chase this new disc! I can tell a big difference in the hardness of the plastic and so can she. Any recommendations as to a substitute disc? Thank you!

I’ve looked all over the internet to find average catches for competitors in different types of game styles. Just want to know an average… 10 catches in a minute? 20? Any help would be appreciated!

My dog occasionally gets obsessed with flipping the frisbee on the ground.

If he misses a catch, he has no trouble scooping it up or flipping it first if necessary.

But usually at least once per session he gets stuck in this loop where he’ll drop it in front of me instead of delivering it to hand and repeatedly obsessively flipping it over and over with his paws. He’ll get it in the perfect position to pick it up, lightly grab with his mouth, then let go and go back to flipping.

What’s going on here and how can I help him?

How do determine what size disc to get?

In May, I'm getting a rat terrier puppy. When this dog is fully grown, I'll exercising them by going on my daily runs with me, but I'm planning on teaching basic disc as a way to get out energy on days I don't run. As a rat terrier is a smaller dog than what most people use for disc, will I need a smaller disc than what is standard? How do I determine what size to get? For reference, they'll be around 19 inches at the wither when fully grown. Also what about when they're a puppy? Obviously no long or high throws, but I'll start with rollers as soon as I get the puppy to build drive early.

I have a dog that loves frisbee but we are ready to take it to the next level.

Just wondered if someone could point me in the right direction for the type and brand of frisbee to check out? My dog is a 42lb Australian cattle dog. We currently use a soft chuckit frisbee that he destroys in about 3 weeks on average. He likes to shake it after catching it.

I was thinking about the Hero 215 for a frisbee. Thoughts?

Also is there a good place on YouTube where we can watch training videos go get us started. And yes I said us LOL he loves watching YouTube with me if there's other dogs and training happening. He loves to work!

First few months to get your dog obsessed about discs!

I recently adopted a 9mo Aussie. Her fetch is great with balls, but she doesn't have nearly as intense focus with discs. With balls, I have her attention non-stop for 10+ minutes.

I understand we should wait until 12-14 months before training to catch discs in the air, but what can I do to get her obsessed in 3 months?

We're keeping sessions short, 5 minutes or so of just rollers, chase, tug, and take, and stopping before she loses interest. She's still jumping and chasing after the discs while I am putting them away.

So, am I on the correct path? Just continue with what I'm doing and slowly increase training sessions? How often should I have these sessions? What's the best way to slowly phase in hyperflites? I'm currently using floppy and Kong discs.

I'm also working on basic obedience with her, and I can work on disc trucks like stand on top of someone or sit pretty.

Btw, I'm hesitant on joining a disc club right now before COVID cases in my area is really bad.

Thanks

I want my dog to be a disc dog

Hi everyone! Not sure how much traffic this Subreddit gets- but figured people involved with frisbee competitions and such would be the right people to ask.

I have an 8 month old Blue Heeler. He is a wild bugger. Defiant, unfocused, and loves to test his mom and dad daily.

We’ve have him for nearly 2 months. When we got him he wasn’t potty trained, nor did he know any commands. He has come a long way- somewhat. He is potty trained now, and knows a bunch of commands- although sometimes he chooses not to listen.

His energy levels are kind of random. He seems like he has a lot of energy (typical of the breed), but it seems unfocused. He gets bored easily- unless it’s wrestling and play fighting. When he does play fight it quickly gets out of control. He bites extremely hard and I have the cuts and bruises to prove it.

We have taught him fetch, and he will play for about 5 minutes or so- but then loses interest. We go through a cycle of toys during that time. We shower him with praise everytime he chases and returns. He seems excited but his running quickly turns to walking, and then turns into sitting. Or he will just run and charge at me trying to play fight. Which it seems like that’s all he wants to do.

He will also play tug pretty often, but usually gets bored with that after a little bit.

So my question for those who do the frisbee competitions and play extreme fetch- how do I get him to that level? Can I increase his desire to play fetch? And eventually get him to a level where he is jumping in the air to catch the frisbee or ball?

Any suggestions would be great. I think the issue is that he becomes less interested after each throw, and quickly goes from being excited to being bored and wanting to bite my ankles.

Fetch is such a great way to burn energy and bond. Would love it if he enjoyed it more. Our previous cattle dog was obsessed with fetch- but he was also older and the previous owner played fetch with him since he was tiny.
