Hey there Reddit,
I am trying to find a song/band/ music video
there was this music video me and my buds really thought was fun and funny about ten years ago. It was what I would describe as "gothic creed", the singer was a big wrestler-looking dude with goth makeup and a deep butt rock voice. Like a less heavy less good moonspell with Scott Stapp singing. The music video the band is playing near a lake or ocean, and the singer is singing to a distressed woman. I thought it was called "immortal beloved" but I must be wrong because I can't find that. My friends remember watching it but not what it was called so I didn't imagine it. ANY idea what music video I am talking to. I don't even wanna roast it, I thought it was so silly that I started to like it. Now I really wanna see it again
Because of how much the genre has evolved, there are arguably multiple styles of metal that all get lumped under the term "death doom metal". It seems the main contention about applying the term is just how much death metal instrumentation/influence a band needs to have to count as death doom, so I am curious what the listeners here would say is most representative or "true" to the genre. The main styles that get called death doom I can think of are the following:
- "slow death metal", which is mostly based on death metal, with some doom influence
- "roughly even mix of doom/death riffs/instrumentation", but leaning more into doom metal or death metal depending on the band.
- "extreme doom metal"; this style is mostly doom and has minor/no use of death metal riffing, but uses the death influence via growls, uptempo parts, double bass drumming, and down tuning
- "doom/gothic metal with growls"; entirely doom with no death metal riffs, has prominent clean/gothic parts, but still has growling as an important vocal style, and maybe uses some extreme doom elements.
-"umbrella term"; the death doom label works better as a broad label for any fusion of doom metal and death metal, that includes styles with and without death metal instrumentation, and ones with and without clean/gothic parts.
If there is anything I missed, use the other option and explain in the comments what you think best explains death doom as a style.

Anyone dig Seep?
Hey all. This is my band so this is a self plug. Thought some of you may enjoy it! Cheers!
I know the first Paradise Lost Album(which I am in love with) and Disembowelment, and thats about it. Gimme your recommendations! Looking for classics as well as newer stuff.
my doom/death band is looking for a label to release our full length. have you got suggestions of labels that release doom, doom/death or funeral doom? thank you
Who's heading out to see Spectral Voice THIS SUNDAY at Brick by Brick? Doors open at 7PM, see you there!
I’ve never been a huge follower of the subgenre, but a few months ago I found this demo tape at a local record store and it really got to me. I did further research on the band and, unfortunately, they disbanded shortly after releasing this demo. I had never heard this type of death doom that incorporates keyboards and synths, and I must say that I really enjoyed it. Do you guys know any band or release with a similar sound and atmosphere to this? Thank you for your help!! (I had to repost this :”))
Death-doom pioneers Swallow the Sun return to Brick by Brick in San Diego this winter in support of their new album Shining 🤘 Catch T*he Shining Over North America Tour *on Mar. 6, 2025 with Harakiri For The Sky, Ghost Bath and Snakes of Russia! https://www.ticketweb.com/event/swallow-the-sun-with-special-brick-by-brick-tickets/13888243?pl=brickbybrick&REFID=clientsitewp
I've been really getting into this style over the last year or so, after years of listening to mostly melodeath and atmospheric black.
I've loved a lot of the more modern stuff I've found like Dream Unending, Worm, Inborn Suffering, Mournful Congregation and Profetus.
I probably prefer the more melodic and less sludgy stuff, but I try to be open-minded. I am not adverse to bands that mix in some clean vox either, although I'm mostly here for the growls.
I'm interested in checking out some of the more foundational stuff like My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, etc - but their discographies are huge and I'm unsure where to start.
Can anyone suggest some specific albums from their catalogs, or from other similar bands of that era? I haven't really delved back into anything released before 2010-ish TBH.
Any and all recs appreciated, and thanks! 😁
I haven't really invested much time Into Doom Metal outside of candlemass. I checked out Triptykon's - Melana Chasmata today for the first time and I need more albums/bands like it with the heavy, dark, depressive feeling. Any suggestions please!
This is part self-promotion, and part me hunting for music. The subreddit is very small, but is being kept active and I've been uploading a lot of old school death and some death/doom. I'd love some recommendations for 90s albums in this subgenre. And please join us over there, if you're into 90s metal of all kinds!
