I've decided to resort to deleting last week's meet post and post new ones to keep updating.
This is the Halloween edition. Please feel free to wear a costume. Please feel free to not - I probably won't but most folks will. (I am the Mr. Scrooge of Halloween)
Please join the group to see more event details on where we park, etc. Note that you must fill out all of the questions and have a picture of yourself somewhere on the profile to be approved. This includes the basic math question - plug it into google if you need it for some reason. The membership questions in the group should give you a good idea of who we are.
DC-Moto was the 'chill folks who hold down jobs' group in the past. (aka 'nerds') Core group got quiet since people got older and started having kids etc. A bunch of us are getting into riding again (including myself) so we're doing an impromptu meet to gauge interest. The whole group revolves around being inclusive with demographics and motorcycle types. And not being squids. When we ride together, we stick to near speed limit group rides. (you can do whatever you want outside the group).
Some things about us --

PS: those of you who swore off of facebook, any tips on what other place to post the meet details? We need to be able to vet the attendees a little bit.
I just bought a 2022 RC 390 today and would like to get it serviced by someone who knows what they are doing. Does anyone know what the closest place to Bethesda that can service them? Right now it seems the closest place I can find is in Baltimore.
I am buying a used Vespa from a seller in Virginia. The title was issued in Florida, they just moved to DC area. At the back of the title, the only space to note odometer reading is in a field that reads "FIRST REASSIGNMENT BY LICENSED DEALER", similar to the image below.
Does anyone know what would be the proper way to note odometer reading?
I noticed that in Virginia they have a form for odometer disclosure. Should I ask them to fill that out instead, since they're selling it in Virginia?
Advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm a 37 year old new rider, trying to get my new Ninja 500 insured. It seems like there are no viable options?
Liberty Mutual - no coverage in DC
Progressive - no coverage in DC
Geico - insanely expensive ($50/month with no collision/comprehensive. $430/month with those added at highest deductible)
Erie /Hazar? - Has to be add-on to a car (I don't own a car).
USAA - pushes to Progressive - no coverage in DC
American Adventure Insurance - no coverage in DC
Dairyland - no coverage in DC
"Insure your Toy" - no coverage in DC
Any recs? What do you use?
Hi I’m a novice street rider that’s done a few track days and YCRS. I’m looking to ride a minibike at a kart track or even in a parking lot for a few hours to try and work on my control inputs and my body position. I live in the DMV area.
Looking to rent a minibike from either an individual or a company as I don’t have one. Also need some tips for an area or small track to ride in. I checked United Karting but their minibike series seems focused on racing. Thanks for any help you can provide!
hi! I have a Husquevarna Vitpilen 401 and I’m looking for someone to help me ride maybe once a week or 2x per month to help me feel more comfortable on the road. will pay if not too much! thanks for letting me know if interested!
In a bit of a pickle, I had Geico but it was $150 a month so I cancelled it. I said I sold the bike in the meantime. Have endorsement but need DC moto insurance to get a license plate. Wondering if I can pick Geico back up since they probably have my VIN and I reported that I sold it, just so I can get the DC license plate.
I'd like to get a permanent policy, but I can't find any companies that offer insurance for the 20057 (where I live)/20015 (where I park the bike) zip codes except Markel, which is an insane $5300 yearly. Waiting for a response from State Farm. Struck out with USAA, Progressive, Allstate, list goes on.
If anybody knows any good local companies, I'd just like the most basic, cheapest liability insurance, don't really care if it doesn't do fuck all. I appreciate y'alls responses! Dan
Seen the last post was 62 days ago and was wondering if there was a more active sub somewhere?
Redline Powersports Commonwealth (Prince George VA) and Heyser Cycle Maryland seem to have good deals. Looked at a 2020 Honda Rebel and 2021 CBR300R ABS and similar bikes $4-5k range. In FL for now but heading back up to DC soon.
https://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2020-Honda%C2%AE-Rebel+300+ABS-5027364869
Bummed since it sounds like someone might grab the Rebel and just wanted to keep the options open. Appreciate insight from yall Sincerely, Dan
EDIT (8/24): Thank you for the suggestions everyone!!! I was moving in to college last few weeks. Used on FB marketplace was definitely the way to go, that way I avoided dealer fees which were adding $500-$1000 at least. Intending to go for an R3 now have a friend check on it. Have a great one! Dan
EDIT (8/31): Got the R3 after a guy on fb marketplace drove it in from Baltimore! Thanks for the advice everyone (still waiting on a Shoei a week and a half late on Amazon...hope nobody stole it)
Hi all. I work near Ballston Mall and am looking for parking for a Harley Street Glide (fairly large bike) during the workday. Ballston Mall space seems difficult for big bikes. Plus I heard a bunch of bikes got vandalized there recently. Most public garages nearby seem to have ridiculously steep entrances/exits. Can someone please recommend a parking location near Ballston Mall that is better for larger bikes and has a less steep entrance/exit? Thanks in advance!!
I finally got around to rebuilding my 07 rebel that got smashed while parked by a drunk driver. It was bought in Virginia to begin with, so I'm sure it needed something to pass MD inspection. The previous owner coated the rusting tank and fenders with rhino liner to halt the spread, which I guess was a decent idea since it sat under my care for 4 years and hasn't rusted anymore. But they were ugly and bent up so I took them off and threw them out without much thought. Now that I'm finishing up on the rewiring, I'm worried I messed up. I wanted to turn it into a bobber to save on some money by not replacing things that aren't considered essential. (Or at least I dont.) I'm also becoming concerned that the aftermarket V&H pipes were legal in VA but not in MD. I saw that it says the lights all needed to be stock but the only stock light on the bike has always been the headlight. The turn signals are all similar to the stock ones, but my taillight is nowhere close. The one that was on it when I bought it was also aftermarket but completely busted when hit. I also need some guidance on the license plate lights, specifically does there have to be 4 present?
Just to get this out there, I'm aware the best way to find out is to go get the inspection. However I'm 30 plus miles away from the closest place that does them and I'll have to rent a trailer or truck to get my bike to the inspection station anyway so I'm not trying to throw the money away.
Is there any rider meet ups in the Northern Virginia area?
See title. I’ve called, emailed, and visited a total of 12 times in the past ~month (including weekends when their hours on google are listed as open). Never gotten ahold of them or gotten a response. Just now called their phone number and it directed me to some weird DirectTV sales pitch.
Anyone know what’s going on? My bike is desperately in need of some maintenance :’(
And is willing to loan it out? I have a CB750K that needs a tune up!
Let's look back at some memorable moments and interesting insights from last year.

Every shop I walk into says they can't alter leather (jackets or pants) and textile jackets. If you need to get alterations to your race suit or a basic textile motorcycle jacket who can you take it to in the DC area ?
I am not altering a crash/slide area (like butt/hip/shoulder/etc). I want to add a neoprene collar to a textile jacket and have my race suit pants shortened...so we don't have to worry about Kevlar stitching, etc...
What do you recommend in the Sterling/Fairfax/Chantilly area (Woodbridge is too far).
I've heard of Gemini and Brooks, any more that you trust ?
looking for the same quality of service I had at RnR...and fair pricing also.
Selling my MT-09. Really love this bike but just don't ride it enough. Low miles, (~1200), bunch of add-ons. Price negotiable. Feel free to DM me or reply to the craigslist ad if you're interested.

Hi, this might be a long shot, but I'm picking up my first bike from NOVA and need help transporting it back to DC. I wanted to see if anyone here had ideas for necessary equipment to safely transport it. Honda C70s are pretty light and small so I'm not sure if I need a cargo van vs a truck and/or ramps.
Thanks!

Looking into getting a light motorcycle and Baltimore craigslist runneth over with very nice-looking TS-100 and similar small-displacement dual sports/'street scramblers'/etc. By any reasonable metric they seem to be street legal -- turn signals, headlights, etc.
But the official DC fact sheet for what makes a bike count as a 'dirt bike' (an evil machine that cannot be registered) just states "designed primarily for off-road use", which smacks of "you know it when you see it". When I registered my gun the MPD literally just had dozens of printed-out JPEGs of different guns with "YES" and "NO" taped to the wall to determine edge cases/precedent, and I can't imagine the DMV has a more refined process, so I'm concerned I'll get a good deal on something nice only to find that DMV refuses to register it.
Has anyone ran into similar problems here? If you did, how did you solve it (if you did)?

I’m 6’6” and my research tells me the DL650 or Versys 650 would be great as a first bike for someone my size. Unfortunately I can’t seem to find any used in the DMV area. Any suggestions or any sellers? TIA!
Recent RVA transplant, looking to get into shenanigans. Looking to find fun places to ride dual sports in the area.
I'm planning to acquire a vehicle that counts as a motorized bicycle in DC (and is, in fact, a motorized bicycle -- no technicalities here). It's powered by an ICE, not an electric motor, though I don't think that matters (in DC - it would change the situation in Maryland).
In DC, it doesn't need to be registered or insured. I may not even have the option to do so if I wanted to, I think? Especially since it's a bike I put an engine on, which means it's not going to have a VIN.
In Maryland, where I'd like to take it on trips, it counts as a moped. That doesn't restrict any way I'd want to operate it, but Maryland does require that mopeds are titled and insured.
It seems to me I run the risk of running afoul of Maryland law if I take it over the border. That wouldn't be an issue with any other vehicle I have registered in DC, but since it wouldn't actually be registered anywhere, I think I'd be at least hypothetically at risk.
What's the solution here?
I am scared to leave it on the street!
Does anyone know of a garage to keep their bike in NW (Adams Morgan area, specifically)?
I checked craigslist/ FB marketplace to no avail.
Anyone out there like working on old bikes for fun? I have a few friends who do, but most of them aren’t in DC. It would be great to find some more folks who are down to shoot the shit with and occasionally ride when our bikes aren’t in various stages of disrepair.
If it makes any difference, I’m currently working on a 1972 HD Sportster, 1973 Honda XL 175, and a 1974 Yamaha DT250.
Ride safe!
I am debating subscribing to get the exclusive content from the app, but was wondering if anyone knew of local spots where people can watch the races?
