The term darkwave originated in the 1980s as an indicator of the dark counterpart of new wave. Bands such as Cocteau Twins, Soft Cell, and Depeche Mode are exponents of this first generation of darkwave. Darkwave ... employs relatively slower tempos, lower pitches, and more minor keys in its musical settings of melancholy texts than new wave.

Ok so randomly a song came out my Spotify randomly from DJ, it was the Toronto based duo Give My Remains to Broadway- Casket.

Hey there,
So a few years back I started a little side project that I called "The Funhouse Collective" with the idea of looping in friends I've met along way since my days in NYC with The New Creatures and my project Johnathan|Christian.
I met Michael Bann at Middle East in Philadelphia back in 1996 when his band Advent Sleep and The New Creatures were playing Dark Harvest opening for Roz Williams as we were both on Cleo's Goth Box comp, and later Mike went on to produce our track "Clownhead" for Cleo's Black Bible and we became long time good friends.
I met Adrian Auchrome coincidentally on the same site that I met my Stockholm based partner for Johnathan|Christian back in the Soundcloud days when they actually had groups and communities based on all sorts of musical genres (goth, punk, film scoring, darkwave, coldwave, post-punk etc). He played every instrument on his releases and they were really really good.
I was always a fan of the Golden Earring 80's tune "Twilight Zone" and always wanted to cover it so together with the two of them along with an amazing guitarist named Nicky V from Nashville we released our own version, complete with an amazing Manga remix by Lee Meadows, aka Batboy Slim and co-founder of World Goth Day.
We were all pretty chuffed with the positive feedback from critics on our take, and one reviewer went so far to say the guitar solo was even better than the original.
Sadly, Adrien took his own life last year and Michael passed away in the hospital this year after brain surgery.
I'm just thinking about both of these guys and wanted to share this as they were some amazing people I wished all of the baby bats would have gotten to know.
So with that, please enjoy our take on the 1982 Golden Earring song "Twilight Zone"
PS- If you like what you hear, consider picking it up on bandcamp as all profits will go to Adrian's widow.

Hey there,
Johnathan here from the project Johnathan|Christian. We released a EP with all proceeds going to the Trevor Project, an American nonprofit organization founded in 1998. Focused on suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning youth.
On top of the original track, there's a bad ass drum mix by the ever epic Martin Atkins (PIL, Killing Joke and more) and this amazing electronic mix by none other than co-World Goth Day co-founder Lee Meadows, aka, Codename: Lola, aka, DJ Batboy Slim: Video:
