Include everybody. Anyone with any amount of texture in their hair is welcome here. Passing judgment on whether someone else’s hair is “curly enough” is neither useful nor productive for our common goal of bringing out the best in our hair. Please also remember that terms like “afro” and “big chop” have a long and complex history within the natural hair movement for black women (see wiki). To keep our community welcoming, it’s important that we respect these words and use them appropriately.
Do not privately message users of this subreddit. Reminder: this is a SFW subreddit. Do not privately message users, especially with "compliments" (those can be shared publicly) or sexual requests. If you wish to contact someone via PM, ask them in public chat first. They do not need to answer you.
Respect cultural terms The natural hair movement has a long history and the words created in it have meanings. It’s important to respect where these words, techniques, and more came from, and celebrate the importance of the work done by these early pioneers. Please be aware of terms such as “big chop”, “afro”, “natural hair journey”. Be thoughtful and respectful about using these powerful terms appropriately!

I honestly have no idea 🥲 I don’t really have a routine I mostly just add water and maybe one product like a mousse or cream. but I’ve come to notice most products don’t really work for me.
I have low porosity hair thick curly hair and I was wondering if it would be good for me to use as a shampoo or clarifying shampoo (idk which one it is)
Hi! What hair type do I have? This is my hair 1 day after washing. My routine is shampoo and conditioner in which I use the Ouia conditioner for medium hair. I then use the umberto gianni leave-in conditioner and scrunch with the curl smith hydro style flexi gel. How can I improve my hair routine so that I have less frizz and my waves are more defined?
I have a party this Saturday and I want to do my hair differently, but for the longest time I’ve been wanting to loosen my curls cause every time it gets shorter cause of shrinkage.
I really want my curls to look looser for this event but I’m not even sure how to do that with such little time can someone help plspls 🙏😭
I feel like I’ve already learned SO much, but I just cannot seem to figure out these two issues.
Breaking up the casts: When I scrunch the casts, it gets frizzy. I’ve tried with oils (jojoba, argan, olaplex 7). I’ve tried with leave ins/stylers (NYM curl cream, NYM 10-in1). I’ve tried with bare hands. I’ve tried with mousse (Aussie miracle curls). They all left me with frizz or greasy hair. Last, I tried with a satin scarf- holy static Batman. Here I sit writing this with casts that I don’t know what to do with. I used just mousse (the Aussie miracle curls) yesterday with better luck, but no shape the next morning.
next day hair. I have ALWAYS struggled with this. My hair will hold whatever position you put it in. If I put it in a pinapple, no amount of time or gravity will release it the next day. I might as well dress as Pebbles flintstone. Medusa clipping? Sticks straight out for hours after releasing. I have satin bonnets. I’ve used for years even when straight. I tried a satin scarf and since I toss and turn like a rotisserie chicken at night, it was long gone before midnight. I shower at night because I have to be at work at 6:30am and I am NOT getting up at 4 to shower and style/diffuse my hair. So, unfortunately, the first time the world gets to see these curls it’s already second day.
Help a new girl out.
"In my 25 years of life, I’ve struggled with my curly hair. Growing up, I hated it—partly because no Indian parents seem to know how to care for curls. I tried to straighten it, thinking it would be easier to manage, but straightening is so damaging, and it never grew well because I didn’t know how to nurture its natural beauty.
For three years, I attempted to hide my curls, but just like you can’t conceal your true self, my curls eventually grew back from the roots. I found myself stuck with hair that was half curly and half straight. Then came Ankit. He looked at my hair and told me he loved it—how the curls give me character and definition, making me uniquely me. He even suggested that short hair would suit me, and I took the leap because he saw beauty in my curls that I had overlooked for so long.
With his encouragement, I finally embraced my natural texture. I now adore my short, bouncy curls—they're healthy and full of life, and I wear them with confidence. Thank you, Ankit, for effortlessly showing me the beauty I’ve carried within me all along. You’ve helped me love my hair and myself in a way I’ve struggled to do for 25 years. ❤️✨"
I have been growing my hair for around 16 months and my barber chopped it all off after i asked for a very small trim to remove split ends. The new haircut is very weird and i have a question.
Do i shave my head off and start over again or grow it back from this? wont my hair be uneven? i have a feeling the top is too dense but my tails on the bottom are too small.
I really have a tough time taking care of my curly wavy hair. I have been diligent about using hair masks and conditioners, but it's like my hair has a mind of its own. It's just the top layer that is super frizzy. I love having curly hair and would never think of straightening it. Help!
I wash my 3a hair every 4/5 days bc that’s the longest i can go before my scalp feels weird. Most curly tips online are for reviving your curls and adding definition but my midlengths and ends look really good until the end. My problem is my roots go pin straight after day 2 and then they get frizzier and frizzier. I don’t really want to put a smoothing oil on my roots it would just look greasy. Any tips to make them look better or even something in my wash routine I should be doing (rn it’s mousse scrunch gel scrunch diffuse). thanks sm xx
hey all, i have stravy hair (a mix of 1b/1c/2a/2b) & i’ve been trying out some new products, bc i like how my hair looks when it’s more textured. i bought not your mother’s styling gel bc it was recommended on here, & i’ve run into a problem. when i put it into my hair & finger curl it it looks great for 10mins or so, but because my hair is so. fucking. porous. and dense it takes around 3 hours to go from damp to full dry. by the time it’s dry enough it’s just weighed down by the product & is straighter than if i didn’t use it at all :,) it also doesn’t seem to be forming that crunchy coating people talk about here no matter what i do. i’ve tried using less product & it doesn’t hold the shape, more product & it just gets weighed down more 😭 please tell me there’s a solution here!! i don’t have a lot of money to spend on different products so i’d like to make this one work if it’s possible
a bit unrelated: is there any way to even out discrepancies in hair texture? mine is wavy in the front & straight in the back and it honestly just looks like i did a bad job of heat curling my hair sometimes :,)
I have 2c/3a medium length and thickness hair. For products I use Maui moisture hair care, Shea moisture curl and shine conditioner, strictly curls hair gel and frizz ease dream curls mousse.
I wash my hair around 2 times a week and no matter what I do I have to stand in the shower and try to brush my hair for like 30mins. I also feel like I’m ripping out a bunch of hair so I’m starting to get worried. Especially the hair around the nape of my neck gets so bad!
Anyone have any tips or similar experiences? I’m very close to just chopping my hair off, it’s so frustratin

Im trying to grow my hair back out to its old length after it needed to be cut back quite severely. Id love to try to give it some more strength and maintain healthy hair for a change instead of just letting it grow wild as it was

Hey everyone, I have a almost 3 year old little one with very very fine but also super curly hair. When she wakes up in the morning its like a giant cotton candy puff and a tangly and knotty mess and no matter what my wife or I do brushing it out is a painful and tough experience for all involved. Both my hair and my wive's has always been wavy but not fine and we're at a loss of how to help her. Can anyone help with tips, suggestions, or products?
