Polystead - Backyard poultry, self-sufficiency and sustenance

Howdy!
One of my good friends runs a blog focused on self-sufficient/sustainable backyard poultry. Wanted to spread the wealth of knowledge, so check it out!

https://polystead.com/

Polystead is a resource founded by James, a passionate backyard poultry enthusiast. The purpose of Polystead is to create a comprehensive database of poultry breeds from around the world, making it a one-stop resource for all poultry enthusiasts.

At Polystead, you will find a user-friendly catalog that allows you to search for any poultry breed you're interested in, whether it's an indigenous breed or an exotic one. From pets to commercial breeds, the poultry zone on our website covers a wide range of information related to all kinds of poultry.

We take pride in ensuring the quality and accuracy of the articles and projects published on Polystead. Our team carefully reviews the content to provide you with the most recent and reliable information available.

About Me
Growing up in a family that practiced subsistence farming, I learned from an early age to appreciate the importance of the land and the animals that provide us with food. As someone deeply passionate about poultry, I decided to create this website to catalog my extensive knowledge and experience.

My goal with Polystead is to offer a centralized platform where you can access a comprehensive catalog of poultry breeds, along with valuable content on cultivating food in your backyard, homestead, or small farm.

Thank you for visiting Polystead, and we hope you find our website informative and helpful in your poultry endeavors.

Class B permit in california for home goods

Hello all, I'm looking into applying for class B permit for baked goods and wanted to get in touch those who have been through the process in California.

- Looking into food handler cards and found a couple of programs, has anyone taken this one https://premierfoodsafety.com/food-handlers-card/california?

- How to obtain a business license?

- For kitchen inspection, was your home kitchen inspected or a commercial kitchen? While inspection how strict are they or what are they looking for in a home kitchen?

- Does anyone know about zoning laws and the specific requirements for home-based food businesses? Did anyone consult the dept of public health?

I am based in San Francisco. Is there anything I missed? I'm new to this process and would love some guidance and learn more from other's experience. Thanks!

Just finished this one ✨

I wanted to show off this black and green onyx pendant that I just finished up today!

Woven in antiqued copper with a tiny Herkimer diamond tucked in the tree. I hope you like it.🌲🖤

Texas Cottage Food Law Question

I reside in El Paso, TX where I will be creating my baked goods. Am I allowed to sell the baked goods in New Mexico at a farmers market? Or online then deliver in person over the state line? Furthermore, does anyone know if I can sell goods under the cottage food laws of NW made in a different state? Any advice would be appreciated.

Trademarked names

My brother wants to start selling freeze dried candies in town. Does he have to use a different name for the candies or can he use the original common names?

Grants for Cottage Law Bakery/Business

Anyone have experience searching (and finding) any organizations who grant or loan to cottage law businesses? Most of the grants I can find seem to not fit cottage law in their requirements and I’m at a loss. Really trying to expand my business, not got the best credit so I don’t have the option of using personal credit, just my full time job and what I make in profit on the side.

Any advice or tips for start up capital would be greatly appreciated.

CA Cottage Food Rules

I am working on my cottage food permit in California, but was curious about the labeling piece. I am planning to sell freeze dried candy, however I note that the application asks for 3 labels and charges an extra $200/hour to review additional labels. Does this mean that to add additional products down the road, I’ll need to apply again for those candies and pay an extra $200? I hope to be able to adjust my offerings based on what people are buying

We are looking to test out a product - does anyone know if you need to have a CF permit in order to create and send samples to potential resellers?

Is there any state in the US that allows for homemade cordials? Sweet dessert drinks extracted in vodka.

Gifting YouTubers

Has anyone had luck “gifting” an item to a cottagecore YouTuber and them putting it on their channel? I know a lot of YouTubers have P.O. Boxes so you can send them freebies. I love Randi Lynn Reed and Darling Desi but would love to send to anyone with the cottagecore aesthetic

I know there’s a lot more to influencer marketing than sending them something in hopes that they promote it but I was curious if anyone had luck with it. Thanks

Selling at local shops

For those who have considered selling their handmade products in local shops, what does that process look like? I have an item I think could do really well in some of these local shops and help me generate my exposure and build more income to develop new products but I have no idea what I need or what the process looks like.

Is there anything legally I need to do to make myself more official? What is the expectation for percentage split of the product?

Any advice or tips is very welcome! thanks!

Interested but unsure how

I’ve done some research. I’d like to open a business in Texas using the cottage food laws. I know that restricts from selling to stores but I can open an online shop and ship or direct sell to people. I know I need a basic food service cert possibly an LLC and insurance. I’m not sure where to go past that and I’d appreciate some input on what steps I need to take and tips on starting up.
