Hello! I’ve been writing a fictional book about two characters. (Granted that these two are expatriates and have been living in Corsica for at least two years or so already.) Tragedy struck, and my character’s father met his demise.
As respectful and faithful to the Corsican culture, what are the chances that my character’s father may be buried on a mountain? Without any other burials. If so, around where? I’m quite specific with the setting because of how their surname is derived from such. It’s a perfect imagery, too. If it’s not quite possible or probable for it to be on some mountain, are there any known cemeteries instead, at least with a seascape view, that a funeral can transpire? If so, what cemetery?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I did not know it was so similar to standard Italian, it's fascinating
Do younger generations speak it?
Is there any plan to expand the language or at least not let it die?
It would be a shame if it dissappeared
I hope it can be revitalized like what happened with the Basque o Catalan langauge in Spain
I am going to be applying to universities soon, and I have visited Corsica before. I truly find the island beautiful, and so when I found out that there's a university there, I immediately set my sights on it, as I want to spend more time in Corsica, and maybe even reside there later on. However, after looking the University of Corsica up, I noticed many websites give this university a very low ranking.
I would want to study law there. Does anybody know how the university (academics, lifestyle, etc) is? To what extent do the rankings reflect the actual quality of the university? And is it a good choice?
Hi all! Im going all in to Corsica, meaning that i will live in Ajaccio maybe for life. Im latin american, with native spanish and daily english speaker. Im very basic with French but im wondering if theres job offers to start off. A man needs to provide right? Im gonna live in Ajaccio. TY i will work in anything! Suggestions?
Hellooo, i am stranded in Ajaccio due to the strike. I support all ongoing strikes, especially against investors and shit. Still, there is the problem for me that i can't get valuable information about recent dynamics or announcements about the duration of the strike. I was planned to depart today but now i have to plan otherwise. Could somebody keep me ( and other travelers) updated about what's going on? Would be highly appreciated! :)
I was planning to go for a 2 weeks bicycle trip in the northern half of Corsica (from ~28 Oct to ~9 nov) and staying mainly close to the coasts (not tied to the coasts but not planning to go uphill because I'm not that experienced in bikepacking).
I wonder if weather could get me q bad surprise ?
I was scheduled to leave Corsica via ferry yesterday, however the strike at the ports and airports prevented passengers from getting on any transport.
I’m a foreigner, it looks like I may not be able to fly home, and I didn’t budget to continue to stay here, looks like it’s getting expensive quickly, especially with the coming weekend.
Any ideas what I could do to find reasonably priced, perhaps medium term accommodation if the strike isn’t resolved? I’m in ile rousse. I will be going to the tourist office, open to any other ideas to find info or assistance.
UPDATE: tourism office said to stay put, those in Bastia can go to the temporary accommodation at a gymnasium. Gonna enjoy the nice weather for now.
ANOTHER UPDATE: We’ve been made aware that the city can host people affected by the strike at COSEC de l’Ile Rousse if you can’t find availability elsewhere.
THIRD UPDATE: there may be a lifting of the block tomorrow during the day details here
One of our suitcases broke on the way here, and we need to buy a new one to go home. We’ve already checked the supermarket closest to us (E. Leclerc in Folelli), they have suitcases but only smaller ones. Can anyone recommend a store with a good selection of larger suitcases, preferably on the south side of Bastia?
I am just starting to research Corsica and want to go for a week next year in June. My favorite type of vacation is hiking (or climbing). But my boyfriend is afraid of heights. I am looking for recommendations of beautiful hikes that are not very exposed. Like they don’t have big drops where you can fall.
I think we’ll stay on the south but if there are better hikes on the north we could go north.
EDIT: Moderate to difficult would be good. Day hikes 3 to 8 hours.
Hi All,
Would appreciate any advice.
We are planning a trip to Corsica the first week of July. We will be traveling with a 3 year old and it will be our first time to Corsica. Would love to know the best places to stay or base ourselves out of. In general we are not huge beach ppl ( love being by the beach, but don't like actually sitting on the beach for long periods of time), love the mountains. Hoping to see as much as we can with a bit of time to chill. We are happy to move around the island as we explore. Any suggestions?
Also, I understand it can be quite hot in July. Thoughts on this? Is another destination a better choice for early July (we will be in Geneva and looking for to add another destination for our last week away)?
Thanks in advance!
Hi all, We were planning to take the ferry from Livorno to Corsica on a Sunday and pick up a car rental. But it looks like the one (hertz) is closed on Sundays?! Is this correct? Do we have to go to the Bastia airport to collect a car rental?
Any insight would be much appreciated.
Hello everyone, I am going to Corsica soon with my family and we are looking for a home caterer for around ten people, do you have any good addresses to recommend to me?
We're looking for someone who could make us a good paella knowing that almost all of us are in the restaurant business so we could be described as "boring" lol
We are towards Valle diMezzana
so if you have some suggestions I'm very interested :D
Thank you!
So I’m wondering what options there are for breaking the gr20 middway (and maybe completing it another year) ?
Someone suggested Visavonna as apparently there is a train once a day but this seems more than halfway (i have it marked as stage 10).
Im considering this but curious if there are other options?
I’d have a slight preference to travel back to ilrouse but anywhere with a ferry would work (ideally to nice) many thanks!
Hello, I’m considering moving to Calvi, Corsica and was wondering if there are any gyms in the town. I can’t seem to find any directly in the town when searching Yelp or Google.
I’m mostly looking for weight lifting machines and free weights.
Thank you!
I’m wondering what is the easiest way to get from the port to the start of the trek ?
So, I’m trying to do some research regarding basically where to fly in, if we are only moderating good hikers, is late May even doable?
Anyone have any recommendations / guides on performing this from south to north and during this time? i don’t mind cold but also have never hiked with crampons or with ice picks, although i do use walking poles that have snow and ice attachments.
So I’m planning to set off fairly in the coming days - i did most of my research earlier this summer but if anything has changed recently or there any specific important info to know about the route this year i should know I’d appreciate any tips.
Also my arrival time has changed so where I spend my first night has too. According to google there’s a campsite at Calinzana but I can’t seem to find anywhere to book it - assume its fine to just turn up?
Hello, I wish to visit Corsica in the near future, however I have heard that the tourism industry is very controversial given its connections to the French state. As an anti-imperialist, I do not wish to inadvertently aid in the suffering of the Corsican people by supporting the French state financially.
Are there any recommendations on how to visit Corsica while also being mindful of its political situation and with respect to the wishes of the local population?
Hello,
I am planning to go from Bastia to Figari by car, where would you recommend to stop to stay for 1 or 2 nights that is worth seeing? Could be at the beach but also in the mountains/ center.
Thanks!
Has anyone who has travelled to Corsica from Italy taken advantage of the overnight accommodation on the ferry the night before departure? Wondering if we should book that option for an 8am ferry instead of getting a hotel in Livorno.
