Radio apps

Hello! I'm looking for a little guidance or suggestions on local radio channels I could access by app in the States. I would love to listen to local radio in real time. BBC sounds is telling me many of the programs I'm trying to listen to aren't accessible outsoutside of the UK. I can get the Cornwall station after digging through the app but it seems like programming that has already aired. Thank you for your help!

Who remembers 'Radio guy' in Newquay?

I know it's a random question but I was thinking about my time growing up in Cornwall and my mind went on to some of the unique characters that lived in Newquay.

The one that stood out in particular was a bloke who used to walk about clutching a radio that was in a plastic bag. He would touch everything with a cloth in his hand and was very solitary and a bit of an odd ball.

Me and my mates called him 'Radio guy' but if you remember him then you might have given him a different name.

He was out and about in the early 2000s.

Avoid Liskeard today and tomorrow unless you enjoy traffic.

5 way traffic lights near Morrisons roundabout and it’s absolute chaos. Been waiting half an hour so far to get out of the supermarket carpark!

What could this be?

Hi ya,

I was wondering this evening during a Walk with the dog. I was spotting a moving, Dotted line on the Sky? The picture did Not Show it correctly because of the 3s exposure of the iPhone cam. But i guess it was around 25 green or white lights. There was moving straight in a line and disappear After 3-5 minutes.

I spotet it at 18:30 in Feock near Truro. Did anyone else was seeing this today or Something similiar?

What are peoples opinion of Athena Learning trust?

Considering its reputation with teachers and students alike and being the factor that started the Camborne school riot. Its not nearly talked about enough in my opinion.

Okehampton services parking fine

I got a fine from horizon parking for parking at okehampton services. It says I parked in a travelodge carpark. Parked here many times before to use the services and haven’t received a fine.

Is it a private company? I’m not planning on paying, I was going to ignore it but would it be worth sending back a letter stating that I won’t pay the fine. Or should I pay it haha, are they brutal?

Opticians with labs

Hey, anyone know of an opticians in Cornwall that have their own lab (where the glasses are actually made)?

Managed to break my glasses AND the spare pair in short order, and my prescription usually takes 2 weeks for Boots to “order in” (aka get from their own labs), so feeling a bit hopeless. I’m pretty much useless without them!

Thanks!

Dating for over 40s

So I’m asking where are the decent places for a night out should an over 40s (44) year old woman go to meet single men of a similar age, I’d say I’m asking for a friend and I am, plus myself so 🤷🏻‍♀️

PSA: Cornwall Heritage Trust Membership is cheaper then 2 x Adults to Tintagel

Was saying this for the umpteenth time in a thread today and thought it might work better as a post.

If you are visiting Cornwall and intend to visit Tintagel or another English Heritage property within the Duchy then please, please, please consider getting Cornwall Heritage Trust membership instead of paying EH direct.

https://www.cornwallheritagetrust.org/support-us/membership/

The CHT membership is £30 for two adults or for a family of two adults and two children. Tintagel is £32 for two adults if you book in advance and more then that if you buy on the door.

The CHT Membership also gets you into any other EH property in Cornwall for free.

Additionally, money you give to English Heritage gets sent all over Britain to fund various properties they maintain but also the costs that come with running a large national charity whereas CHT looks after local heritage sites which are mostly free to enter and which would otherwise be unprofitable to maintain and thus unprotected.

Selling one masked ball ticket

Hey guys, my partner and I bought 2 masked ball tickets but aren’t able to go. We’ve sold one but still have the other kicking about. We got them for £60 plus the booking fee (£7) but are happy to sell for £60. They’re £77 now plus booking fee so you’d save yourself nearly twenty quid! Enough to buy a couple of drinks and have enough left over for a hungover pasty the next day.

Let me know if you’re interested - happy to provide my instagram handle over DM to chat that way instead so you know I’m real and won’t scam you!

Cornwall Visit in March ‘25

Apologies if this has been asked, but I didn’t see any responses to the question I have, specifically about Tintagel (the village) & castle ruins.

Wife & I are planning a trip to the UK from the US, at the end of March next, and I have a weird fascination to visit Cornwall’s ruins of the supposed castle of King Arthur.

As it’s a bit convoluted to reach, and that part of Cornwall being somewhat remote from our path, we were planning on a visit of four nights, staying in the village, traveling from London, before continuing to Newcastle.

Bad idea? I do want to visit the area, as it sounds amazing, but again, being a bit of a ballache to reach, is four days enough to enjoy the ruins, village, and surrounding area?

Thank you for your responses, we’re a bit torn on whether we can have a meaningful stay in only four days.

Chainsaw cert/training

Hi all

I'm looking for recommendations for places that offer chainsaw training. I'm after general competence, not really fussed about a qualification but might be handy in the future. Have you got your ticket and where did you go to get trained?

cheers all

Merlin’s Magic Land

Does anyone else remember Merlin's Magic Land? It was in Lelant, near the train station.

All I remember was that it had one of those water jet target games as well as a ghost train, and that the coin tokens were special Merlin's Magic Land coins.

It must have closed around 2003?

A question about Flambards

I was chatting to my best mate the other day about our trip to Cornwall in 2001. We visited Flambards and we both vividly remember a water type walk on ride where you would walk along wooden ladders over a lake or something? It was almost like an assault course with ropes, ladders, water shooters etc. Did this exist please as nothing came up on Google! I feel like it's something we just made up 🤣

Also, does anyone remember a holiday park around that area that had chalet type buildings, an abseiling platform, toboggan run, a private indoor pool and it's own beach please? We visited that place and would love to know if it's still open, or what it was called!

Nice areas to live around the Cornwall moors?

Lucky to live coastal, but require more space and affordability - if I move inland I should achieve this.

I’m after a property that borders or is within the moors.

I’ve looked at minions but can’t see anything suitable.

I would greatly appreciate any recommendations that I can look in to. Or alternative areas where I may achieve the same sort of surroundings/feel.

I don’t want to move too far down country!

Thanks!
