I fucked up a bit. So,I promised to build my teenage son a gaming pc for christmas. How hard can it be?I'll go to my local computer fair,I thought.Get some cheap components and advice. No longer not an option, obviously.I don't work as I'm disabled,so low budget. Then my benefits were reduced by enough to cancel crimbo.I had managed to buy a case and monitor before things went tits up.My son was so good about the situation that I felt even more guilty and insisted I'd get it done somehow.Well,Ive just managed to get some of my benefits reinstated so had a small sum of money as it was backdated.I want to proceed with the build, but am nervous about getting things wrong. I've watched YouTube tutorials but being clueless they have me somewhat confused.my main issue is I'm unsure which parts are compatible, and which parts are the best within my budget. I'm 'shielding' as advised by NHS so cannot leave the house.online purchase is my only option. My ask is this: are there any redditors with the knowledge(and patience) to advise me,using very basic terminology?the case is Sahara P35 TG ATX
I wanted to connect a working chromebook with a broken screen to an external monitor. I bought an adapter, but I don't know if there is software for its use on Mac or Chromebook. Is there anyway I can successfully connect the two without buying more equipment (I am in university, and I don't have too much money)?
Hello, just like the title says I’m having a keyboard issue. The first one I sent in for a RMA it was a Logitech G910 (I think) and my numpad #9 just out of the blue stopped working. So I am now using my stock keyboard that came with my computer, and the numpad #9 is not working on that one either. Is it possible to actually disable keys? Could I have accidentally locked out a key on my G910 and that carried over to my stock keyboard? Any help is appreciated.
Hi,
I think this is the right place to post this question as I have seen a couple of similar issues here.
I too have a computer that is hanging/freezing for several seconds either in-game, just on the desktop listening to spotify, or watching a video on YouTube. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason, but this of course started when I upgraded some PC parts as well as put Windows 10 on an SSD.
My rig is as follows:
All drivers are up-to-date, I have uninstalled and reinstalled. I ran a disk check, Memtest86, and a few other diagnostics and nothing is really glaring. Every time the freeze/hang happens, I've been trying to isolate what it is in the Logs screen.
The only one that jumped out to me was when the freeze crashed my game, and this error displayed:
Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
This prompted me to reinstall my drivers, but the issue has persisted. It just hasn't crashed a game again yet.
Any help here would be useful.
Edit: I reset my Windows 10, so it uninstalled and reinstalled itself, and I don't think the issue has continued, but I've only had 1 hour to test it. Will update more tonight.
So my friend just contacted me out of the blue about a text she just recieved. I never sent anything from my email or my phone. I have no clue what it is. But here is the screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/c1ubf1W.png So could anyone know what this is? Thanks :D
Here's my situation: I am in the middle of putting together kind of a home studio setup, where I have my main computer, with 3 monitors etc. in one room, and in the room adjacent to my "control room" is the shop/studio area, where I have all my instruments, and also conveniently has two windows on the wall between the two rooms, but that's irrelevant. What I wish to accomplish is having a 4th monitor in the studio room, as well as a wireless keyboard and mouse that I could use to control the computer remotely. Ideally the 4th monitor would show what is on the main display, but I would want a way to be able to switch between the other 2 displays as well (I imagine there are switchboxes out there that would allow this). The other thing is that my displays use a combination of displayport and HDMI, so I was maybe considering a software solution. I also game on the main monitor which is 144hz etc, so whatever setup I go for would have to not mess with latency or refresh rates etc.
I feel like there's a lot of pieces to this puzzle and I'm not sure what I need. Then again there might be a simpler software solution. Any insight on this would be much appreciated, thanks :)
Greetings all,
I had a quick cyber-security fact that I wanted to validate as accurate. Is it true that every device on a LAN will see/record the MAC address of every other device on that LAN even if there is no direct communication between devices? So if I connect to WiFi then the MAC address of my device is being seen/recorded by all the other devices that are connected to that WiFi network, and all the MAC addresses of those other devices are being seen/recorded by my device?
Thanks in advance for any replies.
Hello. This is my first post on Reddit.
I'm looking to change career paths and enter a field in computing. I have been considering going into software engineering. I already have an unrelated Bachelors, so I was planning on entering a Masters program in this field.
For those of you with experience and knowledge in this and other related fields, what would you advise that I know before I begin applying? What would be the basic requirements for someone wanting to enter the field of software engineering cold? Assume that I only know the rudiments of computing.
I took a programming course in high school which I enjoyed very much and excelled in. I was planning on going for a computer science degree but, although I was one of the best in my programming class, I could not comprehend my elementary linear algebra course, so I switched majors. Now, I feel confident enough (now that a decade has passed) to try to re-enter that world again.
Thanks for any advice.
So my desktop computer keeps freezing when I try playing games or doing to many things at once. It's not blue screen, everything just freezes until I reset the whole system. Anyone have any clues as to what might be causing it? Specs- CPU: Intel core i7-2600 @3.40 GHz; Ram: 16 GB; GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 600; 75GB SSD, 1TB HD I have does a windows memory check of the RAM and it has reported no errors; Running Windows 10 (used to have same problem with windows 7)
So I just tried to upgrade my rig from 8gb of ram to 16gb of ram. It was really hard to press the ram stick to the slot, but it finally clicked into there. I tried to boot up my pc, pc worked, but my headset, monitor, mouse and keyboard weren't working. So I removed the new ram stick. Started my pc again, my keyboard, mouse and headset were working, but my monitor wasn't. Then I tried to put the new ram stick back into the slot it was in before, but then one of the ram clips popped off, not sure if it broke or just popped out. Then I tried again to start my pc with the old ram stick and everything is working. I'm gonna post some pictures here. I'd really appreciate the help if anyone could tell me: does my motherboard not support my new RAM stick or if my ram clip is broken or not. I don't know what to do...
My new RAM stick: https://www.arvutitark.ee/est/tootekataloog/Arvutikomponendid-Malud-lauaarvutile-DDR3-malud-lauaarvutile165/128044 https://gyazo.com/b561bec7b7afe7e577fd6058e274a960 https://gyazo.com/779aef4d0ab1b1e40db21a17243cd0fb My motherboard: MSI H81M-P33 ; https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/H81M-P33.html
If anyone needs a pic of my old ram stick then let me know.
Do you think is a graphics card more advanced than the Nvidia Titian V?
So on friday i built my first computer, i turned the power button on fans are spinning and what not. (Build info here https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jHNgjc all my parts and what not) So whenever i tried connecting to my monitor just standard VGA to VGA (Through the motherboard) nothing happened, couldnt get it to work. So then a google search told me i should connect it to my graphics card which i then realized my graphics card wasnt a VGA it was DVI-D Dualink port. So 2 more days pass as i order one off amazon (the adapter to connect the two) it still doesnt work. Then i noticed when i power the system a redlight on the motherboard appears the VGA light. In the motherboard manual it says the GPU is not connected/not found. So i assumed that was preventing me from connecting to the monitor. and then a another google search revealed to me its 99% because i dont have the drivers for it. And how can i get drivers or do anything if i cant even connect to a monitor. So please if you guys have any insight into this i would greatly appreciate this. (https://imgur.com/a/jsikb here is a picture of the redlight and the gpu clearly installed)
I bought a used ssd for my computer build and the previous owner never wiped it. So i was wondering if there is any way to wipe the ssd .
Oh and i forgot to mention its password locked so i can’t gain access to the computer.
Please I need help I'm not that good with computers. Okay, almost a year ago I purchased a laptop. it has icore5 & 6gb of ram installed
Lately,I noticed my programs are crashing much frequently, and it takes forever for things to load (including boot up time)
Once i had all windows close on me at once due to an overuse of ram which is weird because I have 6 but my old 2007 computer has 2 but functions smoothly. Lastly I keep getting the error: "sorry an issue occurred, well restart your computer" with the sad face thing. Each time I use heavy softwares. (Kinda)
My question is: right now I reset my laptop and when I was lucky enough to get to the OS, I checked task manager it says I'm using 2.gb out of 3.6gb of RAM.... But I have 6gb??
Is this a regular thing for it to show despite having 4 or more gb of ram installed? Or is my computer only reading 4 out of the 6gb RAM I actually have installed? Please tell me what to do. My laptop isn't booting up regularly anymore and I need this thing it's important. Thank you.
I'm running Windows 10 by the way.
